After a fierce fire-fight with Taliban insurgents, three 1000 lb. bombs were dropped on Mazdurak, a villiage in Kajaki, Afghanistan.

New intelligence reveals China is covertly supplying large quantities of small arms and weapons to insurgents in Iraq and the Taliban militia in Afghanistan, through Iran.
U.S. government appeals to China to check some of the arms shipments in advance were met with stonewalling by Beijing, which insisted it knew nothing about the shipments and asked for additional intelligence on the transfers. The ploy has been used in the past by China to hide its arms-proliferation activities from the United States, according to U.S. officials with access to the intelligence reports.
Some arms were sent by aircraft directly from Chinese factories to Afghanistan and included large-caliber sniper rifles, millions of rounds of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenades and components for roadside bombs, as well as other small arms.

This is what happens in the real world when you start looking and acting like a sick/dying/weak hearted Bull. Preadators don't hit the young bucks witth strong hearts they go for the old large animnals with weak hearts that are easy kills.
This is only the begining more and more of our allies are going to abondon ship and more and more enemies or potential enemies are going to move in to get a piece of the dying giant for themselves.
Since about 2004' we have allowed the LLL/s to undermine our moral resulting in conmmon conception being the Iraq phase of the war a failure. Iraq phase on all counts historically compared is a unbeleivable success so far our forefathers fought wars that made this conflict look like a minor conflict. Our enemies see this heartless weakness and see what I see a Giant that is deseased infected with Liberalism so bad that he cannot even stomach a fight for his own life. Our once powerfull nation is literally ready to just lay down and die and the preadators are coming even fighting eachother for thier share of the kill.

I've been pondering for years the possibility that bin Laden is hiding out in that little tail of China that pokes into the Hindu Kush next to Afganistan. He would be safe from airstrikes there. The Chinese would have him as a de facto prisoner as well as a thorn in our side.

It really isn't a surprise. After seeing the U.S success at arming Afghanistan against the "Super Power" Russia, and the collapse of the Soviet empire -- who can blame China trying the same route?
Well unfortunately for China, Americans were not buying all of their junk from Russia at the time so we should find some way to punish them economically.

My opinion is that China will try and take Taiwan back while we are busy in other places, (thanks to their selling of weapons to the Taliban). They know that the US won't doing anything about it, and the Dems will come up with some reason on why China deserves Taiwan.

Some of the guys who went into the caves to clear ordnance left by fleeing Taliban forces noticed that the ammo containers had oriental writing on them. They reasoned (obviously) that the writing was Chinese due to proximity and because the Chinese had been walking hand in hand (though with obvious frictions) with the Taliban for some time. Many of the fighters that the Media proclaimed headed South, in fact headed East - Had to do with tribal affiliations I think. Our government didn't make a stink about the situation. So much for holding countries that support terrorism to account (and this after only a few months after 9/11). They obviously didn't want to make it public and besides, there was no PROOF, in part because we weren't allowed hot pursuit anywhere near the Chinese border (actually, I don't think it was much of a border then, but the Chinese have probably changed that because they fear US surveillance and vice versa.
Anyway, pull up a few pictures of the Taliban's arsenal in their caves. It won't be too long before you'll see the writing on the wall (or, let's say, on the ammo boxes): Chinese characters (Mandarin).
Finally, somebody decided to notice. Tsch.

A little sanity, courtesy of SANE Works
From SANE Works' Colonel Thomas Snodgrass (USAF retired) -
In this part I, Colonel Snodgrass begins to apply his strategic critique of Limited War in an affirmative manner to address the problem of Iran. While it is meant as a starting place for a serious discussion, it is light years beyond anything available and will quickly become the text against which others will be judged.
Why are we at war?
To answer that question during World War II, the US Army Signal Corps produced a series of seven films under the supervision of Frank Capra (director of the post–war Christmas classic “It’s a Wonderful Lifeâ€) entitled “Why We Fight.†The film series explained with graphics and newsreel footage the issues, strategies, and consequences involved in our war to the death with the Axis Powers of Germany, Japan, and Italy. While the presentations in these films would be considered “dated†and “unsophisticated†by today’s standards, they were effective in their time to unite the American public behind the US war effort on the homefront as well as overseas.
Such unity of American effort is woefully lacking today. Obviously a conspicuous weakness of the Bush administration. But President Bush’ war team is not just bad at communication. Indeed, arguably, they are bad at communication because their message is so bad. For example, we were told for three years effectively that all was going as well as can be expected in Iraq. But the truth was and is that we are losing the war because we did nothing to cut off the flow of money, arms, personnel, and strategy flowing across the borders, notably the southern one with Iran. When a belligerent is not winning in a counterinsurgency, it is losing. Only after losing the last mid-term election, are we told that a reassessment is in order. But even then, the answer was a surge without any clear rationale for how the surge was going to actually make a difference beyond platitudes and wish lists.
More to the point, the Bush administration has remained steadfast in its resolve not to identify the enemy to the American people. We are only told that we are fighting terrorism and terrorists. At times, we are told they are radical Islamists who have somehow hijacked the noble religion of peace. But had President Bush made clear that our enemy is every nation, every regime, every network, every conspiracy, and every individual who preaches, teaches and advocates Shari’a (Islamic law), which is a political ideology bent on world domination, the ability to communicate war goals, progress and strategy would have become infinitely more effectively. Instead, he and his defense team insist we are fighting some kind of tactic without faces other than a few al Qaeda types which leads people to wonder why what we are doing in Iraq and even in Afghanistan.
1
perhaps Bush might have retained support longer if he said we were trying to establish a conservative deomocracy in Iraq instead of always saying he wanted a liberal democracy there.

Bracingly insightful stuff. It is not like no one has mentioned aloud to the Bush "Team"(sic) that they are not doing a good job of articulating the purpose or importance of the war (or, indeed, of defining exactly whom it is that we are fighting). Therefore, one must conclude that the Bush Administration has deliberately chosen a strategy of half-heartedly waging an unexplained and undeclared war against an undefined enemy for unclear purposes, all the while refraining from taking action against either Iran or Syria or Saudi Arabia for their egregious acts of support for the enemy that is ruthlessly kill our fighting men. In short, the Bush Administration is incredibly incompetent, callous, and evil.

What a crock of shit. Why isn't this posted at Kos? The instant that Bush even hints that Islam, rather than Islamics are responsible for terror, "B" and every other lefty hypocrite will attack him as a Crusader cowboy. Kafir, when the lefty trolls who want us to suffer a humiliating defeat agree with you, that's a clear sign that you've screwed the pooch.
1. He is correct - there can be no "war on terror" because terror is a tactic, a tool. One could no more wage war on a gun, knife or a grenade as on terrorism.
2. Typical of air force officers, Col. Snograss believes that air superiority is the be all and end all, and that air power alone can handle the job. However history has repeatedly shown that air power alone cannot do the trick, and boots on the ground are required. It was not air power alone that ended WWII, in fact it was the US and Russian ground forces that did Hitler in.
3. Col. Snodgrass seems to have overlooked our poor intelligence capabilities in the middle east, and seems to have faith that our intelligence services can provide accurate locations of most WMD sites and other critical warfare infrastructure. With the various Iranian WMD programs so decentralized, this seems unlikely.
4. Iran learned a great deal from the Israeli attack on the Osirak reactor in Iraq. Iranian WMD sites are deeply buried in hardened facilities. I have read reports stating that even our most advanced bunker busters may not be able to penetrate them.
5. Col. Snodgrass glosses over the fact that there will be an inevitable retaliation for air strikes, and that the Straits of Hormuz remain vulnerable. There is also a chance that Iran is already in possession of a nuclear device, not of their own manufacture, and this would not bode well for Israel... or the US.
To sum up, while Col. Snodgrass makes several valid points, and his plan looks good on the surface, it's really just more of the same ol' same ol' about how air power can win wars, all by itself.

Entire Global Military Spending Less Than U.S. Entitlements
The headline and story tries to convince the reader that the U.S. spends way too much on the military.
The United States spent $529 billion, slightly less than the entire GDP of the Netherlands, on military operations in 2006
Perspective. For another perspective, Rob Port reminds us that if you were to combine all military spending from every country on the planet, it still would be less than what the U.S. spends on entitlements in a single year.
Posted by: greyrooster at June 11, 2007 02:45 PM (vIeoU)
2
Also keep in mind that entitlements and military spending combined are still only a part of the 40% that's left after the IRS manages to waste 60% of the revenues it collects. The sooner DC gets nuked, the sooner we can all be free again, and put things right.

John can't play that card with me either. I am self employed and my success doesn't depend on anything from the government except them leaving me alone. I think our system would be a lot healthier if we went back to appreciating 'charity' instead of demanding entitlements. Charity is voluntary, and generous. Entitlements are the establishment of plundering success, to coddle failure. Harsh, but true. Lately, I'm not doing so good cash-wise, but I beleive I can change that. I am always willing to put extra cash into deserving charity when I have it, but I resent being told I have to give up my earnings to others who may only deserve a swift kick in the pants. A Memorial Day Reflection: Thank You Grandpa
Reposted from last Memorial Day, but every bit true today.
I just received an e-mail from my mother inviting our family to take a moment of time to reflect on her father who was a Marine killed in the Pacific during WWII. My mother never knew her biological father because she was so young when he went off to war.
I never knew my maternal grandfather, but I am proud of his voluntary service and of his supreme sacrifice to our country. RIP.
To my paternal grandfather, who was a pilot in WWII, and a career Air Force officer, thank you for your service. RIP.
To my father who was a Marine--once a Marine, always a Marine--thank you for your service. To my niece, currently a Marine, may God's protection and blessings be upon you in the service of your country.
The image above is from the Punchbowl National Cemetery, where my maternal grandfather is buried. The image below is from the National Archives of my grandfather's service record. If one of your relatives was KIA during WWII, you can visit the National WWII Memorial website and look up their information. There, you can also find where your loved one is buried. Perhaps, like me, you will be able to visit their grave someday.

Our nation owes it all to your grandfather, and so many like him.
My daughter (7) was asking about Memorial day. I told her about her Great uncle Mel, and his Distinguished Flying Cross, and her great-great-great grandfather Andrew, shot in the ass at the battle of Shiloh. She got it, I think, and a new generation of patriots is born.

Where in the Pacific did he serve? I wonder if my Dad knew him. My Dad was with the First Marines at Guadalcanal. He got malaria there, and had to go to Australia to recover. Apparently he kept getting sick from that for years afterwards. But thank G-d he came home, or I wouldn't be writing this.

I was thinking the same thing! You really only need a couple of wide angle headmounted cameras, and have that stuff wrapped around you displaying what the camera sees on the other side of you.
Even Arnold Schwarzenegger would get caught by 10 or so of our soldiers wearing that stuff.
We need some real help for a hero from Orlando, but is currently at Ft. Hood. He was shot in the hip during his tour in Iraq in Sept. 2006 and as a result, has nerve damage to that leg. Upon his return to Ft. Hood, he found out that his wife had spent all their savings, racked up $30,000 in credit card debts and bought a car in his name for somebody else! He's had to get a restraining order against her and he's been told by the Army that he not only has to continue to support her until they are divorced but is responsible for the debts! Needless to say he's in a bad way emotionally and financially. Aaron is feeling very hopeless over this financial situation. The case worker and social worker assigned to him are very concerned about his depression. I'd like to think that Soldiers' Angels can give him the proper welcome home and thanks he should have gotten last September. Any amount will help him.
If you can dig deep and send a donation to Aaron, please contact me.
As always, thank you from the heart of this military mom and fellow Soldiers' Angel.

Women In Combat
Appeasement comes in many forms, some obvious, some not so much:
OTTAWA (Reuters) - The Muslim hijab, banned at a taekwondo tournament in Quebec last month, will be allowed at the 2007 World Championship in Quebec City later this month, the International Taekwon-Do Federation announced on Friday.
The decision by a Quebec federation last month to bar a team of Muslim girls from taking part with their hijabs at the regional tournament had prompted protests of discrimination, but Quebec federation officials said it was a matter of safety.
That group was affiliated with the World Taekwondo Federation, a rival group to the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), which said on Friday it would temporarily allow the head scarves at its May 31-June 3 championship.
Maybe I shouldn't criticize, maybe I should emphasize. Since we're rapidly reducing the radical Muslim male poplulation, it only makes sense to teach the radical Muslim female population to fight at a disadvantage.
I'm not sure it's accurate for the source WTF and ITF to call them "rivals." The WTF is much larger, and is the sanctioning body for most international competition, including the Olympics. The WTF also recognizes the Kukkiwon in Seoul as the authority for individual TKD artists.
The ITF has splintered since the death of its founder, and, as far as I know, was never as big or influential as the WTF.
But I may be prejudiced. My black belt was awarded by the Kukkiwon, and all the competitions I've entered are sanctioned by the WTF.
2
Of course it's not accurate, Bluto. The ITF is appeasing, therefore they get elevated in the eyes of the media. The WTF banned the hijab, which makes them the bad guys.
Sheesh, you of all people should have caught that!

Canadian soldiers fought a fierce battle against the Taliban on Tuesday for the second day in a row, alongside soldiers from the Afghan National Army.
In Nalgham, about 35 kilometres south-west of Kandahar city, members of Hotel company made their way over mud walls and through waist-high water, as militants shot at them with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire.
The company's commander, Maj. Alex Ruff, told CTV News the battle has gone well.
"Well, so far, and keep your fingers crossed, we haven't lost anybody and there are a lot less Taliban running around," he said.
Initial estimates suggested 23 militants were killed in the firefight.

From what I remember, the Great White North segment was created because the American broadcasts of SCTV had two extra minutes of commercials so the writers had to come up with two minutes of content for the Canadian broadcasts. I don't remember hearing about any interference from regulators but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
As for favs, how about:
Dr. Tongue's 3-D House of...
Count Floyd
Celebrity Farm Report with Big Jim McBob and Billy Saw Hurock featuring celebrites that "blowed up real good"
As for its comparisons to SNL what I remember hearing was that the writers/staff wrote what they thought was funny while SNL wrote what they thought the audience would find funny. That's why you see a lot more of the pop culture fad characters coming from SNL while SCTV was more consistently funny.

Zawahiri Mocks Democrat's Surrender Bill (Updated, Bumped With Video)
No matter what words Harry Reid uses, redeployment, withdrawl, timetable, al-Qaeda see's it as surrender. It's a damn shame too that the Democrats handed Zawahiri this propaganda just as al-Qeada in Iraq's back is against the wall and our Apache crews are making short work of the Taliban's spring offensive.
Via ABCNEWS: In a new video posted today on the Internet, al Qaeda's number two man, Ayman al Zawahiri, mocks the bill passed by Congress setting a timetable for the pullout of U.S. troops in Iraq.
"This bill will deprive us of the opportunity to destroy the American forces which we have caught in a historic trap," Zawahiri says in answer to a question posed to him an interviewer.
Continuing in the same tone, Zawahiri says, "We ask Allah that they only get out of it after losing 200,000 to 300,000 killed, in order that we give the spillers of blood in Washington and Europe an unforgettable lesson."
1
It's like the fool who doesn't realize he's driving his car onto a bridge ignoring the signs "The bridge is out!"
Al Qaeda is finished--it is only a matter of time before they get completely smoked...yes, they will still get their cowardly suicide bombings in here and there, but no one would argue that we can completely snuff out crime either (the liberal havens NYC and LA come to mind, with their gang problems and drug issues).
I'm proud of our troops--who are showing liberal Democrats just how good they are, and murderers and cowards like Zawahiri just exactly who's boss. God bless our troops!

I have learned a rule of thumb for listening to terrorist rants. Whatever they say, the opposite is the truth. When they claim a glorious victory, it means they got a butt kicking. I think they are hurting and unlike other videos of him where a massive attack has happened this video was made because of the debate in Congress and the President Zawahiri is worried that we have his number and it is just about up if we stay the course.

Just thought you might appreciate this headline in a russian newspaper.
Harry Reid lost the war in Iraq
-the article itself is pretty neutral, but the emphasis of the headline is unmistakable for a Russian speaker.

Aussie PM: 300 Special Forces Will Return To Afghanistan
Australian Prime Minister John Howard is sending 300 special forces commandos back to Afghanistan in an effort to protect the ongoing reconstruction efforts. (video below the fold)
The deployment of 300 special forces troops to the southeast of Afghanistan, near the heart of the Taliban rebellion, is part of an increased effort needed to win the war in Afghanistan, he told a media conference.
"We have done this against the background of a deterioration in the security environment in southern Afghanistan," Mr. Howard said.
... Australia will also send air force radar crews to Kandahar, extra logistics and intelligence officers, and extend the deployment of a team providing protection and security, taking Australia's deployment to about 950 by mid-year and more than 1,000 by the middle of 2008.
Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, the Australian Defence Force Commander, said the special forces would hunt Taliban commanders. "Essentially their operations will be targeted on the Taliban, disrupting Taliban operations and going after the Taliban leadership," he said.

Michael: This is just for you. Just reading some older posts. As to your chideing me about wb: What you didn't notice about the guy was that four times he made anti-semitic remarks. You apparently didn't pick up on it. I did. It's very irritating for a racist (me) to be called a racist by another racist (wb) So I exposed him and he got lost. More that you didn't notice. wb claimed to be a cook at first Denny's then later at Hooter's. How did Lincoln put it? No man's memory is. ha, ha. Another fact. There isn't a Denny's or Hooter's within 75 miles of Grand Isle, La. Where he claimed to live. Sometimes the bullshit has to walk. Your opinion is as good as mine. Only I believe mine is correct.

Kafir, As I understood P.M. John Howard, the total number is 500 of which 300 are special forces.

Try running your search through Google...append "site:mypetjawa.mu.nu" to your search term.

The 300 troops the Aussies are sending should more than make up for the 200 snail eating French commandos who were pulled out of Afghanistan by Jock Strap Chirac last October.

greyrooster I did notice wb's remarks, and the odd bit of Israel bashing, but I didn't see it as his defining attribute. Lots of times commenters will say things that are inflammatory, or expose a bias which puts them at odds with others. We have all kind commenting here. I'd rather have views presented for discussion, than drive people off. I got something out of wb's comments even when I disagreed with, and argued against some of them. Call me wierd, but I miss quite a few of the 'offensive' commenters from the past. Many were far more interesting than John Ryan, yet he remains, while others are gone. I'm not angry with you as such, so don't take it that way when I 'chide' you. Your opinion is as good as mine. Only I believe mine is correct.

It was a tradition established by Saladin to settle a conflict between various Christian sects and factions in Jerusalem who couldn't agree on who would oversee it. Regrettably, it is still that way. The Holy Sepulchre is divided up between five different groups; Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Ethiopian Orthodox, and a couple of others, all of them breaking out into shouting matches when two or more groups want/need to pass through or use a certain space. Sort of pathetic, but at least they aren't blowing each other up over it.

To be fair, the family that holds the key takes great pride in their duty and I have heard no Christian group at the Church complain about the family.

If the same family has been doing this in good faith for hundreds of years, it may not be as simple as just some Muslims enforcing Sharia. The above comments indicate to me that the matter is worth investigation in more detail. USA, all the way! and especially, a Happy Easter

The rules/traditions David talked about are also why protestants do not have a section of the Sepulchre to themselves like other sects do. Protestantism came about after the agreement was made and nobody has updated it to include them. Though I can understand why, since the logistics of it would be insane given the number of subdivisions of protestantism.

The logic of his argument is inescapable. One correction though, he mentioned Canada cutting its defence budget. That was true under the liberals; the current conservative government genuinely understands the Jihadist threat and that the Canadian military has been neglected for far too long.

Iraq Experiencing Unexplained Outbreak Of Stiff NecksBuh-bye.
BAGHDAD - The former deputy in
Saddam Hussein's government was hanged before dawn Tuesday for the killings of 148 Shiites, an official with the prime minister's office said. Taha Yassin Ramadan, who was Saddam's vice president when the regime was ousted by the U.S.-led invasion that began four years ago Tuesday in
Iraq, was the fourth man to be executed in the killings of 148 Shiites following a 1982 assassination attempt against the former leader in the town of Dujail north of Baghdad.
The official, who witnessed the hanging but spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made, said precautions had been taken to prevent a repeat of what happened to Saddam's half brother and co-defendant Barzan Ibrahim, who was inadvertently decapitated on the gallows.
That last paragraph should provide some proof that Iraq is on the road to modernization. They're taking precautions to prevent their former ruthless overlords from being decapitated.
Pilotless planes small enough for a single soldier to carry and operate are gathering intelligence for U.S.-led forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Israeli manufacturer said Monday.
Elbit Systems, one of Israel's leading defense electronics companies, said its little "Skylark" can cover an area within a range of 6 miles day or night. It is about 7 feet long with a wingspan of nearly 8 feet, the company said.
"Skylark is operational and currently deployed in the global war on terror in Israel, Iraq and Afghanistan," the statement said. It described the Skylark as suited for "close range, beyond-the-next hill, counter-terror missions."

Gathering of Eagles
I was really hoping to be liveblogging the Gathering of Eagles event today, but American cancelled my flight to D.C. and I was unable to get on any other flight to the east coast in time for the event. As a result, I'm here instead of there.
Luckily, Good Lt., Michelle and Bryan are out there doing the job the Ragnar won't do.
UPDATE (Good Lt): Sorry, Rags. I got globalwarmed in as well.

My son and I just got back from the Gathering of Eagles. The vets outnumbered the lefties. The Park Police was out in force also. I don't think that any anarchists will have an opportunity to desecrate the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Park Police are searching the bags and using magnetometers for anyone who wants to approach the Wall. It's a clear and sunny day, but the wind is high and the temperatures are low. Goracle must be in town.

Yup, I signed too. Currently, we filled up one charter bus coming down from Maine, and may be getting another one. There's also convoy of Patriot Guard Riders as well as other Legion, AMVET, DAV and others headed down as well.
If we can turn out a couple hundred from little Maine in the dead of winter, you gotta know this means a lot to folks.....
