Via LGF we learn that his name is Said Namouh, age 35.
According to this Globe and Mail article Namouh is a Canadian resident of Moroccan decent. He uses the alias "Nashraf" in his online activities. He's also been arrested for breaking and entering recently, but has yet to be tried.
It appears that Namouh flew to Austria to meet with the would be jihadis who were building a car bomb.
What I also didn't realize was that GIMF probably wasn't started in Germany--which has been it's main base of operation for several years--but in Canada.
The group appears to have its roots in a now defunct Yahoo group called "Global Islamic Media". That group is alleged to have ties with Islamic militant Ramzi Ahmed Yousef through its founder, Abu Banan.
Abu Banan once ran a website which listed the address of the organization in Quebec, Canada.
And where was Said Namouh detained? Quebec.
Oh, there are many more dots to connect here. Including the fact that the "Global Islamic Media" group is where Irhabi (terrorist) 007 seems to have got his start.
And that the "Global Islamic Media" group was shut down by Yahoo after they predicted an event which would force the Spaniards to elect a government which would withdraw troops from Iraq.
Much more here.
I've opened up a new archive since I believe there will be a lot more news about GIMF very soon. GIMF archive here.

Darcey from Dust My Broom tells me that a fourth GIMF cyber-jihadi has been arrested. This time in Canada. The noose is tightening.
I'll send you over to Dust My Broom for the details. But it makes you wonder: if GIMF has members in Canada, do they have members here in the US? more...

Arnaout is charged with counts of attempted murder, counts of intending to cause an explosion, a count of criminal harassment and a count of possession of explosive material.
Police, who have one man under arrest, are investigating the manufacture of at least six explosive devices -- three sent to unwitting recipients here and in Guelph during the past several weeks, and three found in the trunk of a rental car stopped Thursday night at an Esso station at Overlea Blvd. and Thorncliffe Park Dr. in Don Mills.According to Deputy Toronto Police Chief Tony Warr, the three bombs in Arnaout's rental car were each "about 14-18 inches long." Disposal came by detonation at the waterfront. more..."We don't have a motive at this point," Toronto police Const. Wendy Drummond said. "We do know that the three victims -- the two in Toronto and the one in Guelph -- were not chosen at random."

The no-fly list will be compiled by Transport Canada with input from the RCMP and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS).
The new rules will apply to all passengers "who appear to be 12 years of age or older." The government says that is consistent with the definition of a child under Canadian law (Criminal Code and the Youth Criminal Justice Act).Critics warn of false positives and cite the problems experienced in the U.S. They also complain that it will be virtually impossible to remove a name from the no-fly list when wrongly included. Canada's Privacy Commissioner, Jennifer Stoddart, previously expressed concerns regarding the loss of rights.Overseas travel already requires a passport. For domestic travel, passengers will require one piece of valid government-issued photo ID that shows name, date of birth and gender, such as a driver's licence or a passport; or two pieces of valid government-issued non-photo ID, at least one of which shows name, date of birth and gender, such as a birth certificate.
In a time of global holy war, failure to screen air passengers is risky. Nevertheless, it's understandable that people are apprehensive about having their names and personal information on a government list.
Meanwhile, there's news that the CSIS is being flooded with applications. More and more Canadians want to become spies. Last year, over 14,000 people applied with only 100 hired as intelligence officers. Let's all hope that the Canadians don't unwittingly recruit Muslim jihadists for intelligence officers as reportedly the Brits did.

CBC:
The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear the case of Omar Khadr, the only Canadian imprisoned at the U.S. detention centre in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba....His family lives in Toronto, and I'm sure the city is much more charming because their presence.Khadr is accused of throwing a grenade that killed a U.S. medic in Afghanistan in 2002. He also faces charges of attempted murder, conspiracy, spying and providing material support for terrorism.
He has been in U.S. custody since he was seized in Afghanistan at the age of 15.
Incidentally, a Yemeni detainee's case, that of Salim Ahmed Hamdan, was also turned down.
UPDATE: A friend e-mails:
Forget the fact he was 15 - his whole family was involved in terrorism. His dad was killed and his brother crippled in a firefight between the Taliban they were with and Pakistanis -- his sister was caught with a videotape of OBL attending her wedding... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaynab_Khadr
I hate Wikipedia but I don't have all my stuff on Khadr in front of me - the entry is pretty good though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omar_Khadr
See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khadr_family
The sources for the entries give lots more details... the family is always in the news in Canada.

Oh what a difference photoshop can make!
Kate has the entire story and the original photos. I cropped the ones above to show how the CBC did it, but not perfectly.
Here are the two photos overlaid over one another and with the opacity of the overlaid image reduced to 50%. Except for the bad cropping job I did, they're an exact match.
And remember this is the CBC--the government run Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Perhaps not as bad as the Reuters fauxtography scandal, but it certainly doesn't seem ethical. Check out the rest.
UPDATE: To clarify, this seems like an attempt to make the air look more polluted than it actually is and to somehow link that pollution to global warming. Color changing, per se, is not considered 'out of bounds' for journalists, but only minor tweeking and for enhancement reasons.
The color in this photos seems to have been 'enhanced' in such a way as to mislead the reader into thinking that this is the actual color of ths skyline in Toronto. That color, by the way, is what you'd expect to find in ozone (smog) or particulate laden cities, like my own home town of Los Angeles. And low level ozone and particulates are not greenhouse gasses. The opposite, actually.
UPDATE II: Just to show the difference of what "coloration" can do to a photo, here is a pic of the same Toronto skyline without enhancments taken by reader Pete. I had to reduce the image size which kills some of the clarity, but hopefully you get the picture.
By the way, the vast majority of visible "smoke" that people see coming out of smokestacks isn't smoke at all--it's steam.

Some recommendations, such as preparing halal food seems reasonable. Forbidding interest, religious segregation, gender segregation and the likes in the name of "understanding" are nothing more than an endorsement of Islamic supremacy.
Last month, the Canadian Federation of Students issued a report, titled "Final Report of the Task Force on Needs of Muslim Students," that calls for sweeping changes at the country's institutions of higher education.....So, any campus not under sharia law is now Islamophic. Oh, and any one guilty of Islamophobia under the new guidelines would be subject to reeducation."Education related government loans should not accumulate interest," it says, since Islam "opposes usury and involvement with interest-bearing loans.".....
The report endorses "women-only" time at athletic facilities, and urges colleges to "provide curtains or screens over the observation windows" when women are using the pool....
What if a campus fails to make these changes, and others like them? It is guilty, says the report, of "Islamophobia" -- an "emerging form of racism,"
Why does this all sound so familiar? more...

Glass contends that he deserted because the Iraq war is illegal and he's mad because when he joined the National Guard, he thought it was a humanitarian organization. What?
Furthermore, if refugee status is declined in Canada, Glass says he'll look to become a refugee in another country because he's not planning on returning to the U.S.
Glass has been hiding for the last seven months after going AWOL while on leave. He said he misses his parents and three siblings.

I'm not Canadian, so I won't question their patriotism. However, I will continue to muse as to why they're willing to conduct sneak attacks in a bar rather than traveling to fight alongside their allies the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Fear of bullets, maybe?

What really prompted me to post this press release was that it mentions that at least 50 terrorist groups are now operating in Canada. I don't know how accurate that statistic is, but I can certainly verify that jihad supporters are all over The Great White North thanks to decades of liberal immigration laws. For instance, our friends the terror supporters over at Jihad Unspun are in Canada. And where there are jihad supporters, you are bound to find a healthy subpopulation of jihadis willing and able to carry out domestic terror operations. more...

25 February 2007: Sometime on or shortly before Tuesday, February 20, 2007, a portable radioactive nucleodensimeter was stolen from a construction site in Vaudreuil-Dorion, outside of Montreal. Weighing about 75 pounds, the specialized device is clearly labeled with radioactive warning stickers and contains radioactive material used to take soil samples and measure ground water. The radioactive substance inside, however, can be potentially dangerous if improperly exposed – or used for nefarious purposes.
This is the second time a nucleodensimeter has been stolen from the greater Montreal area. more...

Unfortunately, nobody in Canada has ever heard of Abu Abdul Rahman. Canadian Security Intelligence Service keeps track of numerous terrorists and commanders under a variety of aliases, but not anyone known as Abu Abdul Rahman. Following up, a spokesman said the Department of Foreign Affairs would be "looking into the newspaper report" to find out why nobody knows what's going on.
Interestingly, this case supports the contention that citizens must leave Canada for a foreign country to make names for themselves. And even after they do, they may not be recognized in Canada.

The message from al Qaeda has been consistent: any retreat by Western forces is interpretted as victory---spawning new attacks elsewhere. This is global jihad.
An al-Qaeda strategist has warned Canada to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan or face terrorist attacks similar to 9/11, Madrid and the London transit bombings.Note to Democrats in Congress: Know thy enemy. The threat, attributed to a member of the al-Qaeda information and strategy committee, condemns Prime Minister Stephen Harper for refusing to pull out of Afghanistan....
It is the second reference in recent weeks to al-Qaeda singling out Canada because of its role in Afghanistan.
Last month, Osama bin Laden's deputy, Ayman Al-Zawahiri, referred to Canadian troops in Kandahar as "second-rate Crusaders."

The Washington Times explains why home-grown terrorists planned to attack peaceful, liberal, unassuming, toque-wearing Canada:
But if the real motivation for Islamic terror is an aggressive U.S. foreign policy or Israel's supposed oppression of the Palestinians, why did 17 young Muslim men allegedly plot to strike Canada?
Canada has no soldiers in Iraq. Few would consider it a good friend of Israel. Canada has offered its warm embrace for Muslims from around the globe. Canadian Muslims experience minimal discrimination, let alone anything even resembling oppression.
Leaders of Islamic terrorist groups, from Osama bin Laden to Shiekh Ahmad Yassin (the late "handicapped" and "elderly" founder of Hamas), universally agree that no government is legitimate unless it is Islamic. Establishing an Islamic state is, in fact, what most unifies jihadists around the world.
So why Canada? Because it is not an Islamic state.
But the drive for an Islamic state is probably not enough of a salient motivator for foot soldiers, as it is still a somewhat intellectual ideal. Hence the slanders. Telling young Muslims that their non-Muslim neighbors are going halfway around the world to rape Muslim women strikes a raw nerve.
So there you have it. If Canada would just accept Islamic supremacy there would be no problem. To motivate restless, causeless youths, you need high-octane propaganda, and that is provided by Islamists and our own media.
Can anyone list all of the atrocity claims that the media has has given credence to in Iraq? How many in the last month? Now, how many have turned out to be true? Our media enables Islamist propaganda, fueling our enemies.

From TheStar.com:
The provincial government will announce tomorrow that Ontario is embracing more nuclear power plants, sources told the Toronto Star. The Sierra Club and Greenpeace have already weighed in with their disapproval. Nevertheless, it appears that $40 billion worth of new and refurbished nuclear generating capacity is now on the table as the primary focus of the Ontario Power Authority's next 20 years.Premier Dalton McGuinty has privately spoken of his government's plans to confidants for days, insiders say.
In an off-the-record speech on Saturday night in Ottawa to the secretive Bilderberg group, McGuinty discussed the pros and cons of more nuclear plants.
While he did not divulge the government's plans to that audience of 160 business and political leaders, the premier privately admitted the public will officially learn of the plans tomorrow when his government announces its long-awaited response to the Ontario Power Authority's report on the province's energy supply mix.

Irhabi 007 was a frequent poster at the Islamist mesage board Ansarnet. He first came to our attention after he posted a video of the beheading murder of Jack Hensley at the forum. He was banned from the forum, not for posting the beheading video, but for asking for money to cover his bandwidth costs!
Irhabi 007 was the greatest distributor of al Qaeda in Iraq propaganda videos on the internet for some time. Irhadi 007 is probably best known in the U.S. for the time he hacked the Arkansas State Department of Highways and used their server to distribute jihadi material.
Eventually, though, he got sloppy and was caught by British authorities as part of a three man cell of terrorists. Irhab 007 turned out to be Younis Tsouli, a 22 year old from West London. Tsouli has also been linked to terror plots in Bosnia, Sweden, Turkey and Holland.
So, the Canadian jihadis have been linked to both a British and American terrorist cell. What is the common thread? Internet forums dedicated to the Religion of Peace.

An alleged terrorist -- with links to al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden -- has been arrested in the GTA while trying to flee the country, Sun Media immigration sources say.Hat tip Tim at Opinion BugIn one of the most significant terrorism arrests in Canada since 9/11, a man believed to be a captain of the Pakistani extremist organization Mujahedin-E-Lashkar-E-Tayyba, or LET, which is funded by Osama bin Laden and has direct ties to al-Qaida, was arrested March 16 by Canadian border service officers in Newmarket.
Intelligence sources say members of LET have been trained in Afghan terrorist camps.
Ontario immigration sources say 40-year-old Raja Ghulam Mustafa, a Pakistani national who went by the last name Murtaza, was arrested outside his home with a packed suitcase and a significant amount of cash on him.

Protesters had to dodge flying seal guts pitched at them by angry hunters Saturday as tempers flared on the first day of Canada's East Coast seal slaughter.Eeeeww! Being slathered with seal guts has to be particularly unpleasant. more...News reporters and animal rights activists tried to get as close as permitted to the hunt on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, but their presence infuriated sealers as they hunted for scarce animals on small, drifting ice pans.
At one point, a sealing vessel charged up to a small Zodiac inflatable boat carrying reporters and protesters, and a sealer flung seal intestines into the midst of the observers.
