Brunei Pursues Alternative Energy

The definition of alternative energy sources doesn't always conform to the Manbearpig Dictionary.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, BRUNEI: Brunei is trying to tap coal resources that have gone neglected for decades to help reduce its dependence on oil and gas, the government said.

Brunei has widespread coal deposits of reasonable quality, but their potential has not been systematically explored using modern technology, said Zolkiflee Abdul Karim, acting director of the government's Petroleum Unit, in a government statement Wednesday (12 Sept).

The Energy Ministry is formally pursuing efforts to map out potential areas for commercial prospecting, the statement added.

Heh.

The Answer to Global Warming? Islam

Manbearpig sighting in Mecca? Only on the BBC could an editorial this dumb get air time.

Thanks to Ghost of a Flea who must be into S&M to actually spend the time listening to the Beebs.

Blogger PWNS NASA Global Warming Data

How did I miss this? Blogger Stephen McIntyre of the Climate Audit blog recently caught an error made by NASA in calculating changes in temperature. The data had been used to "prove" that 1998 was the hottest year on record. More "evidence" of global warming.

After McIntyre pointed out the error out, NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Science (GISS) in New York conceded to him that 1934 was, in fact, the hottest year on record. NASA, of course, is sticking by their guns saying that the data does not disprove global warming citing such evidence as "changing migratory patterns among animals".

Animal migration? Uh, I've never been much of a climate skeptic in the past, but I have to wonder if NASA is trying to make me one? Will a study of manbearpig migrations be next?

I know most of you are probably aware of all this, but better late than never I guess.

UPDATE: It's not data, it's an anecdote, but if "changing migratory patterns among animals" isn't an anecdote, I don't know what is: NYC Coldest August, evah.

al-Gore's Carbon Credits Promote More CO2

Heh, I told you these carbon credit schemes were nothing more than a money making venture.

Via Reuters: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The current carbon market actually encourages cutting down some of the world's biggest forests, which would unleash tonnes of climate-warming carbon into the atmosphere, a new study reported on Monday.

Under the Kyoto Protocol aimed at stemming climate change, there is no profitable reason for the 10 countries and one French territory with 20 percent of Earth's intact tropical forest to maintain this resource, according to a study in the journal Public Library of Science Biology.

The Kyoto treaty and other talks on global warming focus on so-called carbon credits for countries and companies that plant new trees where forests have been destroyed. Trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas emitted by petroleum-fueled vehicles, coal-fired power plants and humans.

At this point, there is no credit for countries that keep the forests they have, the study said.

Hmmmm, I wonder if Manbearpig owns any stock in timber companies that log the Amazon rain forest?

Climate Stasis Myth

Don't miss this emotion free scientific article on Earth's ever changing climate.

Via American Thinker: The onset of each 100,000-year abrupt warming period has been coincident with emissions into the atmosphere of large amounts of both carbon dioxide and methane greenhouse gases, which absorb additional heat from the sun, a secondary warming effect. Solar radiation would appear to be the initial forcing event in which warming oceans waters release dissolved carbon dioxide, and melt methane hydrates, both of which are present in the oceans in vast quantities. Subsequent declines in radiation are associated with long cooling periods in which the green house gases then gradually disappear (are re-absorbed) into terrestrial and ocean sinks, as reflected in the data from coring the Antarctic Ice Cap and Sargasso Sea.

The current 100 year solar radiation cycle may now have reached its peak, and irradiation intensity has been observed to be declining. This might account for the very recent net cessation of emission of green house gases into the atmosphere starting about 1988, in spite of increasing generation of anthropomorphically-sourced industrial-based green house gases.

While it seems likely that solar radiation, rather than human activity, is the "forcing agent" for global warming, the subject surely needs more study.

See it is not evil carbon that is the main factor. It is evil sunlight that has caused the climate to shift and change for eons. The article says this science is not settled but what the heck do scientists know about anything?

This evil sunlight must be stopped! Therefore, Howie is expanding his solar offset program to include the whole solar system. We must protect not only the earth but also the planets of Mars and Neptune from having similar climate shifts due to evil merciless sunlight.

Although climate stasis has never ever happened before and humans have been the most adaptable species ever, we must create artificial economic structures to drive toward the impossible tasks of sequestering carbon and controlling solar output. If we don't then we may all be destroyed or, may God forbid, adapt.

Why? Because there is a hell of a lot of money to be made that way! That is why. WTF is wrong with you people? Don't you care about anything?

Manbearpig Sighting in Argentina!

Remember: hot = global warming and cold = global warming. In scientific theory we call this an unfalsifiable hypothesis. And if a theory cannot be falsified, then it is not considered science at all. BBC:

Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, has seen snow for the first time in 89 years, as a cold snap continues to grip several South American nations.
Fear the manbearpig!

Suicide Booths or Getting Gay for Gaia?

Suicide_Booth.JPGFolks, the suicide booth's time has finally arrived. Futurama: your future, only funnier.

Times Online:

HAVING large families should be frowned upon as an environmental misdemeanour in the same way as frequent long-haul flights, driving a 4×4 car and failing to reuse plastic bags, according to a report to be published tomorrow by a green think tank.
Once you identify man's very existence as the cause of the world's problems, then its not such a slippery slope to the introduction of the suicide booth. Or, as David Thompson notes, to the forced drinking of the Kool Aid.

But I think Carnal Reason has been watching way too much South Park:

We will have a problem living the dream, a world devoid of humans, as long as screwing is more popular than dying. What we need is a radical change of thought and lifestyle. A new ethic, a new way of life. A new sexual revolution. You know what I’m talking about. Just think of it as Getting Gay for Gaia.
That joke never gets old!

Sheryl Crow STILL Babbling About "Your Sins"

Not content with being the utterly discredited laughing stock of the nation, musician/internationally noted climatologist Sheryl Crow has issued another decree and condemnation to the peons below.

Forget one square. You people are the most arrogant pricks on the planet because you "refuse to acknowledge climate change."

However, what terrifies me is not what we are ignoring about the state of our planet but the fact that we seem to have lost touch with our connection to the earth. We have risen to great heights of arrogance in our refusal to acknowledge that the earth is changing. We hold steadfast to our belief that nothing can happen to us as a people. We get into our oversized (sic), war-machine-like vehicles, get on our cell phones and blackberries, and avoid having human contact all day long.
You. Cannot. Make. This. Stuff. Up.

Sheryl, sweetie? People who tour with caravans of three tractor trailers, four buses and six cars shouldn't be preaching to the rest of us about our alleged environmental sins. That means, to the educated person, that Sheryl Crow's warmonger mobiles produce many times the amount of pollution that even the most egregious Sunday driver like myself could ever hope to "destroy all creation" with.

And just for this display of addle-brained nonsense, I'm goin' out for a drive - without a destination, and with the foot lead-weighted to my floorboard. Maybe an ant somewhere will die when I run over it, at which time we can all get together and cry over it while denouncing a) Bush's foreign policy, b) Bush's fiscal policy, c) Bush's social policy, and "war."

Heroes. Heroes.

Dems: You People In Your Cars Are the Real Terrorists

That's what the Democrats are telling us with their bill to divert funding from monitoring terrorist phone calls and communications instead into the coffers of the Church of Algore's Evangelical Environmentalism.

The House next week will consider the Democrat-crafted Intelligence Authorization bill, which includes a provision directing an assessment of the effects that climate change has on national security.
"Our job is to steal secrets," said Rep. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, the ranking Republican on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
"There are all kinds of people analyzing global warming, the Democrats even have a special committee on this," he told The Washington Times. "There's no value added by the intelligence community here; they have no special expertise, and this takes money and resources away from other threats."

That's right. The real threat to our security isn't militant Islamic cockroaches who lie in wait in the woodwork for the perfect inopportune moment to kill thousands of innocents in the most horrible ways imaginable. No - the real threat is GLOBAL WARMING.

The same global warming that killed 3,000 Americans on 9-11. Only now, with Democrats in Congress, it is MORE urgent and deadly than EVUH.

You people in the SUVs? Worse than Zarqawi. Still using regular light bulbs? Prepare for the Democrats to change that, fascists. Carbon footprint too large for Algore's liking? Buy "offset indulgences" or face the hand of justice.

No, my fellow Americans. We're not important enough to protect from terrorism. We're not important enough to warrant the monitoring of terrorist phonecalls, emails and bank records. There is a start-up industry of Democrat lobbyists, environmental whacko groups and phony "carbon credit" companies that need to suckle a little of the government milk to get going, and national security and our spy agencies are going to take the hit.

Exit question: Is liberalism a mental disorder? Discuss.

Are 'Carbon Offsets' the New Snakeoil?

Actually, no. Snakeoil is more tangible.

From Financial Times:

Companies and individuals rushing to go green have been spending millions on “carbon credit” projects that yield few if any environmental benefits.

A Financial Times investigation has uncovered widespread failings in the new markets for greenhouse gases, suggesting some organisations are paying for emissions reductions that do not take place.

Rubes.

Manbearpig Can't Stop The Warming

Via Chad The Elder at Fraters Libertas

If you missed last Saturday's interview with Dennis Avery, co-author of Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 Years, you can now listen to it here.
But, al-Gore sure can make a heck lot of money fleecing the population, pretending he can stop the warming.
