WAPO : Only one juror stood between the death penalty and Zacarias Moussaoui and that juror frustrated his colleagues because he never explained his vote, according to the foreman of the jury that sentenced the al-Qaeda operative to life in prison last week.
The foreman, a Northern Virginia math teacher, said in an interview that the panel voted 11 to 1, 10 to 2 and 10 to 2 in favor of the death penalty on three terrorism charges for which Moussaoui was eligible for execution. A unanimous vote on any one of them would have resulted in a death sentence.

You are required during voir dire (jury selection questioning) to disclose if you have any moral objection to imposing the death sentences. Those that do are automatically rejected. However, some people who do will simply lie so that they can throw a "wrench" in the system and impose their minority view on the others. I don't think their should be a required unanimity for death sentences for this very reason -- it's too easy for a liar to overturn a just sentence. A 9-3 vote should be adequate. I'd even go for a 10-2. But unanimous 12 is just asking for "conscientous" objectors to rig the system.

Life Ain’t Easy For Boys Named Sue
Al-Qaeda operative in Australia were able to live out their fantasy of being teenage chicks while texting. Reports that they purchased and wore ladies underwear to throw off the Aussies were unconfirmed.
Reuters : SYDNEY (Reuters) - Nine Muslim men arrested in Australia's biggest security swoop, and charged with planning a terrorist act, pretended to be women texting girlfriends to secretly communicate, a prosecutor told a court on Friday.
"Hi babes, I'm missing you," one message read, while another said: "How you going love, did Sue want to meet me."
During a bail application for one of the men, Khaled Cheikho, 32, in the New South Wales Supreme Court, a prosecutor said the men used "covert phones" under false names and code to communicate, Australian Associated Press reported from the court.
One message between Cheikho and co-accused Mohammed Elomar referred to the purchase of some insulation tape allegedly used to make explosives, said prosecutor Wendy Abraham.
"Hello darling, could you let me know if you still have rolls of the silver tape," a message from Cheikho read.
So "Sue" I hope this experience helps you out when you get locked up with all those sweaty men and you have to play bitch to some big Aussie lifer. But look on the bright side, you already have your new names picked out.

Most-Wanted Fugitive Warren Jeffs
(Salt Lake City, Utah) The 50-year-old leader of the polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Warren Steed Jeffs, has been placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List.
Jeffs is wanted for allegedly arranging marriages between underage girls and adult men, for criminal charges of sexual conduct with a minor, and for being an accomplice to rape. Convictions of the charges may put Jeffs in prison for life.
Inclusion on the FBI's list, which is disseminated world wide, increases to $100,000 the reward for information leading to Jeffs' arrest.
Jeffs is considered a prophet by about followers in Utah, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, South Dakota, British Columbia, and Quintana Roo (on the Yucatan Peninsula), Mexico. Likely protected by armed bodyguards, Jeffs is considered armed and dangerous.
There is reason to believe that Jeffs may be holed up in a FLDS church compound in Eldorado, Texas. Authorities, however, haven't acquired probable cause to enter and search. Maybe the bumped up reward will loosen a tongue.
Jeffs was profiled on last night's America's Most Wanted television program and, by all indications, is a demented, authoritarian pervert. In my opinion, Jeffs is scum. Many lives have been forever altered by his actions. He needs to be found and apprehended.
Pass the word. Call the FBI if you have information. Collect $100,000.

Yahoo News :WASHINGTON - Rep. Patrick Kennedy said Friday he was entering treatment for addiction to prescription pain drugs after a middle-of-the-night car crash near the Capitol that he said he had no memory of. "That's not how I want to live my life," he declared.
Unfair you say? Seems pretty dog gone fair after the left’s feeding frenzy against Rush last week. Ha! Shoe now on the other foot! I’m sure that somehow a Democrat on pain medication is just not the same though and we should have sympathy for Mr. Kennedy. In fact, Rush is standing up for Kennedy.
Caller To Rush Via Rush: Now, what you just mentioned about Patrick Kennedy, even though he's a Kennedy, and even though, you know, we all know about his family, and you're at odds with the Democrats, you're showing true compassion for the man's well-being, and you shouldn't be admonished for it. You should be commended for it.
Now aren’t you all ashamed of yourselves?

I'm not defending the guy, but Ambien mixed with other drugs that cause drowsiness can really do a number on you. You can walk around for hours doing strange things and honestly have no recollection of what occured. I don't think he's lying, but he was irresponsible. I feel bad for anyone who struggles with addiction. And he has trouble with depression too. But I do have a problem with the events of the night. Capitol hill Police cleared the scene and took him home? They simply acted as enablers. I know that "membership has its priviledges" but this is ridiculous.
Considering the volitile atmosphere of politics these days too, I'm not inclined at all to believe that a prominent Republican would have received the same level of compassion that Kennedy has from both sides of the aisle.

Syracuse University: Duke Lacrosse Players Not Welcome
Syracuse University Athletic Director Daryl Gross told the Syracuse Post-Standard today that he would not allow any Duke Blue Devils lacrosse players to transfer to the Syracuse lacrosse program.
At least one Duke University lacrosse player has indicated an interest in transferring from the troubled program. But Syracuse University athletic director Daryl Gross said Tuesday he will not sanction the transfer of any former Blue Devil to Syracuse.
"I think it would be inappropriate," Gross said.
SU coach John Desko said he's received written notification from Duke that sophomore attackman Zack Greer is seeking his release from the school. Athletes intent upon transferring from one program to another ask their athletic departments to issue releases to schools the athlete is interested in attending.

You know, this would be comical if it were not so serious. I would be willing to bet you that almost every Division I Univerity has had a case of black atheletes either raping white women or allegedly raping white women. I remember several cases myself where this happened, particularly one at the University of Arkansas, where I went to school.
Were the programs suspended? Was every other player on the team punished because of allegations against three people? Hell no, this case just shows you how the double standard is played all over the US. The only case I know where the standard was the same was the Kobe Bryant case.

Costa Rican Scammer and Spammer BustedWestern KY: An immigrant from Costa Rica was arrested April fourth after attempting to cash a 35,000 dollar forged income tax return check drawn against the US treasury. Paul Lichtenstein was arrested after tellers became suspicious of the forged check. After searching his residence WPSDTV reported that police found other forged documents including forged postal money orders and a computer. Evidence was also found during the search that indicated Mr. Lichtenstein was also involved in Nigerian phishing scams via the internet.
Mr. Lichtenstein fell on hard luck after loosing his second technology job. First he was fired from an Atlanta based DP firm. He is also a strict vegan and bicyclist when he’s not scamming. He says he was once so heavy he could not walk and was in constant pain. He claims becoming vegan cured him. His father migrated to Costa Rica after WWII and he came to the US seeking his fortune.
I expect he will be deported upon conviction as he is not a citizen. Locals also reported that Mr. Lichtenstein is also a bigamist having more than one wife. He never bothered to divorce his wife in Costa Rica before marrying again in Florida. He speaks fluent English, Spanish and French. I wonder if he is who he claims to be. If you recognize him as someone else please email me.

Guliani Testifies in Moussaoui Trial.
Upon being told what was happening at the WTC Rudy hoped against hope that his men were wrong. They weren’t.
AP Via Yahoo : He said the image of two people jumping together, appearing to hold hands, sticks with him every day. Moussaoui affected a look of boredom when the prosecution played video of victims falling to their deaths.
Giuliani took the stand after prosecutor Rob Spencer braced jurors for the painful testimony they were going to hear over the next few weeks. His presentation opened the final phase of the drawn-out trial that will determine whether Moussaoui is executed or sent to prison for life.
Giuliani said that when he arrived at the scene, his deputy told him how bad the situation was and people were jumping from the high floors of the towers. "I concluded or hoped he was wrong," he said.
But then he saw people falling and "I froze. I realized in that couple of seconds, it switched my thinking and emotions. I said, 'We're in uncharted territory.'"
Terrorist bastard smiles at the plight of WTC victims.
Spencer argued that the voices of the victims of the attacks and their anguished families should be all the jury needs to hear to decide whether Moussaoui, an acknowledged al-Qaida terrorist, should die for his crimes.
Spencer described one call from a woman on the 83rd floor of the second tower to fall. "The floor is completely engulfed," she said. "We're on the floor and we can't breathe.... I don't see any more air...I'm going to die, aren't I?"
"You cannot understand the magnitude of that day unless you hear it from the victims themselves," Spencer said. Moussaoui smiled several times when the prosecution mentioned his enthusiasm for the attacks.
My preferred death sentence would be for this fool to be sent to the Jolly Red Pig and force fed Barbecue until his arteries clogged. Sounds yummy to me! The last thing we need is for this man to become a martyr, no matter how much he deserves death, it's his wish. Give him the opposite. How about an all expense paid eternal trip to Gitmo? I disagree, Howie - execute him now and just get it over with. It doesn't matter if he's considered a martyr. Nowadays in the Islamic world, EVERYONE, so long as they died, be it fighting the enemy or killed by their own is considered a martyr. The US held back on offing Moqtada Al Sadr for the same reason every time his militia has acted up. It hasn't done any good. Moussoui should have died a long time ago.

A circuit judge accepted 21-year-old Daniel Rodriguez Mendoza's plea deal Monday morning against the wishes of the dead woman's family, who wanted him to serve as much as life in prison.
Mendoza, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, pleaded guilty to two felonies -- driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death -- and will essentially end his six-month stint at the Palm Beach County jail and stockade for the Sept. 25 accident that killed Kimberly Jo Dahmer, 42.
On four previous occasions, international trespasser Mendoza was cited for driving without a license. This time, someone died. As a result, he gets six months and deportation. The jail term is a gift and the deportation is a nothing. Even at his young age, Mendoza probably has more visits to the border than your typical Taco Bell customer.
I see it happening more and more often. Illegal aliens are either not prosecuted for crimes or they are treated leniently. Maybe it's because the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. just grows and grows. Nonetheless, it makes no sense for the justice system to view illegals differently from actual American citizens. Pretty soon, actual Americans would be well advised to just say "No speakie English" on all traffic stops. It's a free pass.

I just do not get the logic. Repeat offender finally kills an innocent victim -- and he gets time served? Let's take the immigration status out of the equation. That is just wrong.
But to deport him so he can come back is attrocious!
3
As a conservative immigration attorney I need to weigh in on this. In this particular case the alien is guilty of what's called an "aggravated felony" under immigration law. After he is deported ("removed" is the technical term post 1996), he can NEVER come back to the USA legally. If he returns and is caught, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
And the Feds DO prosecute these matters. I had one case where we were asked to defend a guy from Honduras who returned to see his newborn child. Only problem was he had a conviction for having sex with another, underage female, and had previously been removed for it. When he was caught, he wound up getting sentenced by a federal judge to three years.
The Feds especially don't like violent criminals coming back in violation of prior removal orders.

Wow, three years in the slammer is REAL punishment for statutory rape. I think 30 years would have been more like it, and hard labor at that. Perhaps these illegals would decide the US was not such a gravy train after all.
Wasn't there a recent case in Denver where an illegal alien murdered a police officer? And other cases in California where illegals are committing felonies that either go unpunished or they get favorable treatment.

This creation of a two tiered legal system is (among) the issues worth rising up and shuting down the system over.
I sit in court repeatedly and see illegals (non English speakers) given interpreters, heard first ahead of citizens and receiving half or less fines than citizens and less time or no time served compared to us sucker tax payors.
THEY SHOULD BE DEPORTED STRAIGHT OUT OF THE COURTHOUSES and any other gathering areas where they can be found.
In this two tier system being shoved down our throats the people with the real drivers licenses and the permanent addresses are the ones being screwed the most.
ARE YOU WILLING TO LEAVE THIS FOR YOUR CHILDREN???
Those of us that are "law abiding citizens" have become patsys to pay for the destruction of the system - we're suckers! We are funding the beaureaucraps to F**k us and we are to stupid, lazy or fearful to say anything about it.
Illegals are planning to shut down the country on May day, I ask all true Americans, all lovers of the constitution to realize that the country is being lost NOW - this year. We may not have long to take it back.
We have (almost) no representation - No matter your party your alleged representatives represent themselves and some apparent goal to dilute the value of your US citizenship and tax you and regulate you into serfdom.
Cameras everywhere - large fines - mandatory sentences - tax increases to fund the insatiable apatite of government, but this surveilence and the loss of freedoms only applies to citizens - illegal aliens - felons by definition, get a pass.
We need a wall, we need troops on the border, we need undocumented aliens deported upon discovery, we need a heavy fine for employers hiring illegals with a bounty paid for turning them in and we need to end completely moslem imigration to name some simple common sense URGENT starting points.
I'm watching for suggestions for depriving the parties, the "representatives", the governments of money and cooperation in a meaningful way.
Are we so apathetic that we will leave a third world service economy and a shredded constitution to our children?
I spit on the "representatives". Their agenda is not in the interest of my children. We need to stand up like the Founders intended before it's to late and turn this ship around!!!!!

WAYNESBURG - A Canton man has been charged with the rape and murder of a 7-month-old infant he was baby-sitting.
Police said Henry A. Sunderman, 32, of 3117 Tuscarawas St. W, Apt. A-3, in Canton, raped and killed his niece, Zoey Sunderman, on Friday. Sunderman was baby-sitting the girl, her two sisters and a brother.
Zoey was the youngest.
She was pronounced dead at Akron Children’s Hospital at 2:02 p.m. Friday. The Summit County medical examiner was doing an autopsy Saturday; it said the case was under investigation and did not release a cause of death. But Stark County Jail records said Sunderman admitted he had penetrated the baby’s anus with his finger, “causing severe tearing and trauma, resulting in the death of the victim.â€
I will never, ever renounce my support for the death penalty.
I watched an MSNBC Investigates show tonight on the Wabash, IL level 4 prison. The place had more amenities than the nursing home my mother is in.
F**k life in prison without parole for animals like this.
1
Ironically, it was a case wherein the serial killer did not receive the death penalty that made me realize the importance of the death penalty. If ever any psychopath deserved death, Gary Ridgeway (aka. the Green River Killer) did. The death penalty was used as a bargaining chip to help recover the many, previously undiscovered remains of his victims. By helping locate his victims' remains, Ridgeway helped solve many cold cases. I hope the death penalty will be used as it was in the Ridgeway case, as a bargaining chip.

If we went back to medieval methods of punishment I think there would be far less crime. Getting a prison sentence is like getting a vacation where you can eat good and sit around and play cards. Let's make thieves walk around for 6 months harnessed together and for sick sex offenders cut off offending parts and I'll bet you'd see a reduction in these sorts of crimes. Prison is too good for these people. There is no fear of punishment like society had in the good old days before everybody got all sensitive and human rights conscious and all. Human rights is swell, but a scum-bag sack of shit like this doesn't deserve human rights!

It has been used as a bargaining chip, much to our detriment.
In the Green River case, Ted Bundy used his death sentence as a bargaining chip.
In order to delay his sentence, he offered to help find the Green River Killer (a basis for the character Hannibal Lecter, btw)and was interviewed several times by law enforcement.
It extended his life, but didn't help find Gary Ridgeway.
As a matter of fact, Bundy's life was also extended because other LEF agencies thought he could clear their books of unsolved murders. The time it took to interview him ate up years and years.
But, that's neither here nor there. This is the rape and murder of a 7 month old baby we're talking about.
There are no bargaining chips in this case. This guy doesn't seem to have a history of anally raping anonymous infants over several years and dumping them in out of the way places.

I fully support the death penalty, unfortunately it's just not a deterrent to crime. The reason is simple: gone are the days of swift justice. Nowadays being sentenced to death is the equivalent of life in prison because extended appeals and lobbying by death penalty opponents. Once the punishment is declared, it should be carried out at sunrise the next day. Also, the elaborate methods which require lengthy preparations (most notably the gas chamber) should be done away with. Hanging or firing squad is all that is needed. One of the main arguments against the death penalty is the possibility of innocent people being executed. That's a valid argument. In that case, lobby to fix the problems with the investigative and trial stages of the case. The judicial system cannot work if the state is afraid to punish people because it keeps having to factor in incompetence.

People who say that murders fear a life sentence more than the death penalty never consider why these animals always appeal the sentences. If life without parole is so awful, why don't they try to get the death penalty?

What kind of sick bastard would rape a baby? A freaking baby? He deserves death but then again he won't survive in prison with life without parole. The only problem with the death penalty is it takes 30 years to be executed. If the appeal length was shortened I would support. This monster is enough support for death row.

I'm not sure about the United States, but in the U.K child molesters are placed in their own section for protection, there is however a flaw in that protection, their food and drinks are produced by general population inmates, and they get to do some rather inventive stuff with their food.

Sirhan Sirhan Denied Parole for 13th Time
(San Francisco, California) Palestinian immigrant, Sirhan Sirhan, was sentenced to death for fatally shooting Senator Robert Kennedy in the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in 1968. The sentence was later commuted to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Yesterday, Sirhan Sirhan saw parole denied for the 13th time.
Sirhan, who turns 62 on Sunday, has been seeking to win his freedom since 1972.
Had the Board of Parole recommended parole, the matter would have gone to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for final review. Kennedy was the uncle of Schwarzenegger's wife, Maria Shriver.
"The panel found that he continues to pose an unacceptable risk to public safety and felt that he was not suitable for parole," Tip Kindel, a spokesman for the Board of Prison Terms, said of Sirhan.
So, Sirhan will continue to enjoy cellblock life alongside Charles Manson at Corcoran State Prison. Maybe the two are really, really close, if you catch my drift. Nevertheless, it would have been a waste of effort to send Sirhan's papers to Schwarzenegger.

Hell, they should give him a medal for shooting a Kenndey.

For years Sirhan, a Palestinian Arab Christian for those of you keeping score, proudly admitted he murdered Bobby Kennedy. Many times he's been quoted at length bragging about his crime. But he has recently said he was completely innocent and the victim of CIA brainwashing. My take? He doesn't want to die in prison and will say anything to get out. By the way, he acted alone.

Germans Release Convicted 9/11 Terrorist
In a move that likely supports the contention that Europeans do not take terrorism seriously, a convicted 9/11 terrorist has been released from custody while his case is being appealed.
Mounir el Motassadeq was sentenced to seven years in prison last August by a court in Hamburg.
City judicial spokesman Carsten Grote on Tuesday said Germany's Federal Constitutional Court has now ordered him released. Grote did not give a reason for the higher court's decision.
It was not clear when el Motassadeq, 31, would be released.
In 2003, the Moroccan became the first person anywhere to be convicted with the 9/11 hijackings when he was found guilty of membership of a terrorist organisation.
No reason was given for the court's decision to apparently not consider him a flight risk. I'm astonished! If ever there was a candidate for being a flight risk, it seems a convicted terrorist should qualify. The German court obviously disagreed.

Germany arrested several in Homburg associated directly with one stage or another of 9/11 several years ago. They refused to extradite under the pre-tense that they may be subject to the death penalty under our laws. They decided they could better deal with justice issues than we - in a case involving 3000 dead Americans in NYC, DC, and PA - and had the right.
Its my understanding they made it difficult for US agencies to interrogate and investigate the suspects in Germany. You can all ask yourselves why.
Why no big public complaints from Bush Admin - pure politics and diplomatic need. We needed the Euro assistance for the war on Terror - and the Euro's early on began looking for reasons to cop out.
And all you guys are looking (almost begging) for reasons to show support for these Euros - all because of a few cartoons in a few newspapers.
Germany is looking for a way to make these guys go away - n' probably talking with other Euros for transit assistance.
And some of you wonder why I have been saying what I have reference all this cartoon crap.

Terrorists Seek Cases Tossed Due to NSA Spying
You had to know this was coming. The lawyer for Iyman Faris, convicted of plotting to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge, asked a federal judge today to throw out the case because the National Security Agency illegally spied on him.
Iyman Faris' challenge is among the first to seek evidence of warrantless electronic eavesdropping by the National Security Agency, a practice that began after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Government officials have reportedly credited the practice with uncovering Faris' terrorist plot and several others.
A motion filed by Faris' attorney David Smith in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., argues that investigators improperly obtained evidence against Faris and that his trial lawyer was ineffective.
Given the likelihood that Faris' phone conversations or e-mails had been electronically monitored, Faris' trial lawyer, Frederick Sinclair, should have asked for evidence of such surveillance, Smith said in the motion.
Interestingly, Faris, 36, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and aiding and abetting terrorism. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Subsequently, he tried to take back his guilty plea, saying everything is his agreement was false.
And, there are others looking to get their terror-related convictions overturned.
A lawyer for Ali al-Timimi, an Islamic scholar in northern Virginia serving a life sentence for exhorting followers to fight U.S. troops, has said he plans to challenge his case based on NSA involvement. So has an attorney for Adham Amin Hassoun, a Lebanese-born Palestinian living in Florida who is charged with being part of a cell dedicated to supporting violent Muslim extremists.
Obviously, the issue of the NSA eavesdropping will have to be decided in the courts. I hope that the judges ruling on the issue keep in mind that it involves protecting the United States from foreign attack. It would be imprudent to allow Faris and his terrorist buddies to get off.

Kidnap Plot on Tony Blair's Son Foiled
(London) Scotland Yard sources have confirmed that police have foiled a plot to kidnap Prime Minister Tony Blair's five-year-old son, Leo.
Detectives have investigated a plot to kidnap Tony Blair's son, Leo, after it emerged that extremists linked to the fathers' rights group Fathers4Justice were allegedly intending to snatch the Blairs' youngest child as a form of direct action.
Downing Street last night refused to comment on a report in the Sun newspaper that the police had foiled the attempt in which Leo would have been held hostage to highlight the plight of fathers denied access to their children.
Authorities believe the plot was to hold the boy only for a short period of time and then let him go unharmed. Anti-terrorist police took immediate action to investigate rumors of the plot, visiting members of Fathers4Justice and warning them that someone would likely be shot on sight if the plan was acted on.
Matt O'Conner, founder of Fathers4Justice, condemned the plot unreservedly, stating, "We're in the business of uniting dads with their kids not separating them." Even so, some extreme members or former members have been implicated in the kidnap plot prompting O'Conner to shut down Fathers4Jusctice.
F4J leader Matt O'Connor announced last night that he was suspending the operations of the group pending enquiries into allegations contained on the cover of this mornings Sun Newspaper that 'extremist sympathisers' associated with the group had planned to kidnap the Prime Minister's Son, Leo Blair.
F4J say they condemn any such action unreservedly and that the group is increasingly having it's name 'hijacked' by a growing number of militant extremists and that it would seriously consider the long term viability of the campaign.
O'Conner also called for the police to immediately release the names of the likely suspects and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. I give O'Conner credit for taking immediate action to condemn the plot and to distance himself from the perpetrators. However, criminal plots don't materialize from thin air in activist organizations without word getting around, so one has to wonder just how extreme the Fathers4Justice membership is at its core.
Teacher Arrested for Junk
No, this is not a report about the curricula. It's a story out of Westford, Massachusetts, about a teacher getting pinched for heroin. Although unwelcome, it is a change from the ubiquitous stories of teachers having sex with students.
A 30-year-old sixth-grade English teacher at Stony Brook Middle School, Jessica Palkes (pic), was arrested last Friday and charged with possession of heroin and hypodermic needles after a traffic stop. According to Westford Police Lt. Victor Neal, Palkes admitted that she was a heroin user. Her arraignment was Tuesday in Ayer District Court. Palkes pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The Superintendent of Schools, Stephen Foster, has notified the parents of current and former Stony Brook students of Palkes' arrest. It's notable that in 2004, Westford Academy teacher Rosemarie Pumo was convicted of distributing heroin to students and sentenced to prison.
Two teachers from different schools in the same small town being involved with heroin would appear to indicate a generic drug problem far removed from the crime-ridden center of the big city. An inquiring mind would have to wonder just how extensive the rural Massachusetts drug problem is.

[A] two-year U.S. Justice Department probe of underage prostitution revealed a nationwide problem of such magnitude that it took many police and social-service agencies by surprise.
"Innocence Lost," the cooperative investigation by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies so far has saved 200 minors from the sex trade and led to more than 500 arrests.
The federal probe also revealed a "loose confederacy" of Toledo men who, according to investigators, have recruited local girls as young as 12 years old - shuttling them across the country and forcing them into the sex trade.
The perpetrators are alleged to have lured young girls in troubled circumstances into running away with promises of glamour and travel. Once taken, the girls are forced into prostitution at locations throughout the U.S.
It would be nice to know how long the "loose confederacy" has been operating and how many of the girls disappeared, never to be heard from again. And, in my opinion, the dismal circumstances of some foster care programs are at least partially responsible for the teen girls being easily lured away.

Terrorist Detainees Taking it Through the Nose
The dotty old Beeb reports that a United Nations official is concerned that hunger-striking detainees at Guantanamo Bay are being force-fed in a way that, "...definitely amounts to an additional cruel treatment.":
There are credible allegations that Guantanamo hunger strikers are being force-fed in a cruel manner, the UN special rapporteur on torture has said.
Manfred Nowak's comments came after it emerged that the number of detainees refusing food at the prison camp had more than doubled since 25 December.
I'm certainly as mystified as you as to just what a "rapporteur on torture" is. Perhaps it's similar to a "rapporteur on raping children entrusted to UN care" or "rapporteur on skimming profits from UN sanctions". Who knows.
At any rate, it's revealed that rapporteur Manfred has never visited Gitmo.
Mr Nowak has not been to Guantanamo, and turned down an invitation to the camp because the US refused to give him unrestricted access to the detainees.
Well of course he wasn't granted unrestricted access. Too many UN folks have been identified as accomplices of Saddam in the oil-for-food scandals. Why take a chance with a corrupt organization like that?
As for the scum languishing in durance vile; once they've given up all their useful information, let them eat or not, their choice.

The highlight for me was:
The website designer, a convert to Islam, had gone to Pakistan in October 2001, a few weeks after September 11, to study Muslim culture.
He accidentally strayed into Afghanistan - believing he was being driven to Turkey - and was arrested as a spy, perhaps because of his British passport. He was held in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and fell into US hands.
Yes, you know -- it could have happened to anyone, now how many times after a major terrorist attack, have you gone to a country known to be a staging area for the Mujahideen to enter the Jihad, to study "the Muslim culture" and then accidently strayed into a war zone?
Typical British tabloid however, whitewash the reasons he was in a jail, but publish his story that almost reads like Dante's Inferno with the "evil Americans" trampling the rights of this pious, simple man.

From Dictionary.com:
"rapporteur: One who is designated to give a report, as at a meeting."
Anyone have any thoughts on what we're trying to get out of these people? When they were first captured it was a no-brainer, but 4 years later what would they know that could possibly be of value? Intelligence is a precious but perishable commodity. 4 year old information on terrorist cells and weopons caches seems like it would be about as valuable as 4 year old caviar. And that's assuming they're still holding back info after 4 years of Torture Lite(tm).
More interesting than what we should do with the detainees is how we should get rid of them. I don't hear anybody facing this problem, but we are going have to dispose of these loons some day unless we want to open a geriatric ward on Gitmo. Handing them back to the Afghans sounds like the fairest thing to me, but they'd probably end up dead right quick, which will prompt a big Euro human rights tantrum targeted squarely at U.S. We could hand them over to Brussels to be tried for violations of "international law," after which they'd relax their days away in tennis prison, giving harrowing accounts of their detention to every magazine left of American Spectator, and becoming heroic figures for aspiring terrorists among Europe's exploding Muslim population. What to do?

Who said we're trying to get anything from them?
From an intelligence standpoint, every day they're out of the fight, the less use they become.
As it stands they're just in detention, much like criminals. As we keep some criminals until they're interred, I'm not sure why we wouldn't do the same if need be?
Hopefully some of them will be kept until they are no longer considered a threat (bodybag filler).

I don't think we're trying to get any info out of them at this point. The "torture" these rapporteurs are whining about is basically just complaints about the living conditions, i.e., the prisoners are being treated "inhumanly" because they're being force fed. Yeah, whatever. But letting these guys go seems to be a non-starter. They're in it for the long haul.

I suppose if they are POW or enemy combatants we can hold em until Al-Qaeda surrenders or as long as a state of war exists between the US and the Taliban/Al-Qaeda. In prior wars some POW's were returned by agreement that they would not reeenter combat but you have to have an enemy that sticks to it's agreements. I think as we have seen already with some releases we have done these guys would go right back to fighting.

Returned, they would have faced imprisonment, execution, or simply "disappear". They would have also faced "actual" torture at home for information concerning actions and people in their home countries.
Too many eyes on Gitmo and Admin - plan has quietly evaporated for PR reasons - pity. I have no idea how long we are going to be stuck with them.
Footnote: 4 Chinese muslims kept seperate (and well) - actual "goat" traders turned in by Afghani's - no involvement - believe have applied for political asylum in US - Chinese govt "wants" them for something else (?) - big lil' bruhaha - current status of case unknown.

The detainees who have been released have for the most part rejoined the jihad. So what should we do? My suggestion is to return them to Afghanistan with assurances that these men will not be released until they are too old to be a threat. The only problem I have with my plan is the chance these individuals might escape from the Afghans, so I suppose we will have to keep these guys in Gitmo for the forseeable future.

Very few detainees released rejoined the jidhad - that is a continuing "myth" originally put out by the MSM & friends to show the "continuing failure" of Admin, Mil, & policy. why it was put out - I can understand - why its accepted a gospel I can not.

As the left finds no fault in Fidel's system of "justice," nobody would complain about the fate of these jihadi losers.

President's Attacker Sews Mouth Shut
In a protest claiming his rights have been violated after being arrested for throwing a grenade at President Bush, Vladimir Arutunyan (right) sewed his mouth shut.
Vladimir Arutunyan is accused of throwing a hand grenade at Bush and Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili while they were addressing a public audience on Freedom Square in central Tbilisi on May 10. The grenade did not explode.
Arutuynan was arrested in Tbilisi on July 20 after a shootout with Georgian police that resulted in the death of Col. Zurab Kvlividze, the head of the Georgian Interior Ministrys counterintelligence department.
The defendant came to the court hearing on Tuesday with his mouth sewed up. He claimed earlier his rights were violated.
So, with his mouth sewed shut, he can't talk. And, presumably, he can't eat. And, it's his choice. Uh ... I don't see a problem.
Naturally, I wonder where he got a needle and thread since I don't think those items would normally be issued to dangerous prisoners. Nevertheless, Arutunyan sewing his mouth shut doesn't phase me in the least. Hell, as long as he stays behind bars for a very long time, he could also sew up his navel and his anus for all I care.
1
Perhaps his rights wouldn't have been violated in the first place if he hadn't chosen to throw a grenade a two presidents and killing a high ranking government official. But that's not what's important right? Hopefully the needle and thread used were made from a piece of his bone and muscle sinew......harvested by angry babushka ladies.

Filthy Spy In The White House
Holy moly! We have the workings of a Tom Clancy novel and it's happening in real time. Expect everybody to report on this story. For the first time in modern history, a spy has been caught working in the White House
Officials tell ABC News the alleged spy worked undetected at the White House for almost three years. Leandro Aragoncillo, 46, was a U.S. Marine most recently assigned to the staff of Vice President Dick Cheney.
"I don't know of a case where the vetting broke down before and resulted in a spy being in the White House," said Richard Clarke, a former White House advisor who is now an ABC News consultant.
Federal investigators say Aragoncillo, a naturalized citizen from the Philippines, used his top secret clearance to steal classified intelligence documents from White House computers.
In 2000, Aragoncillo worked on the staff of then-Vice President Al Gore. When interviewed by Philippine television, he remarked how valued Philippine employees were at the White House.
Aragoncillo is believed to have stolen classified documents from the Vice-President's office and sent them to opposition political groups in the Philippines. The information was sent primarily in emails.
Probably no one will mention that. Color me suprised.

Actually we have quite a few Filipinos in our Navy. I recall touring the USS Nimitz when it was in Dubai and seeing Filipinos officers aboard.
Wretchard (from the Belmont Club) speculates this guy was recruited by Mark Jimenez (who is about to finish a two year term for illegally sending money to the Dems during President Clinton's years in office) and reports have it the material sent to the Philippines was damaging information on President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

GMA is in the middle of a vote-rigging & corruption scandal. The opposition attempted to impeach GMA but the effort failed on technicalities. There are rumors of coup and assassination plots.
In fact it sounds like GMA is soft on the terrorism where it counts. Her Admin puts on a good face but behind the scenes is different. At the Belmont Club Wretchard relates an e-mail he received where there is speculation that GMA is trying to hold up an anti-terror bill because of its clamp down on money laundering. That would cause problems for many of the movers & shakers in the Philippines. This sounds reasonable (do a search for "General Carlos Garcia" & Philippines), but we do know GMA's administration buckled under to the Iraqi terrorists very quickly and paid $ (so say the rumors) and withdrew their handful of troops.

IIRC a petty officer is an NCO in the Navy much akin to a sargent or a corporal in the Army. Ahhh siyanga pala I see why the question.
No, the one Pinoy (or the one I refer to) I saw on the Nimitz looked like he had serious metal on his shoulders. It did not seem like he was upper management but everything about him screamed upper middle management.
What is the uniform of a typical petty officer like?
Posted by: Marcus Aurelius at October 07, 2005 01:10 PM (zrUW+)
17
A crow on the sleeve. One stripe, two stripes, or three stripes below the crow. One=3rd class petty officer. two=2nd class petty officer. 3 = 1st class petty officer. Then chief petty officer, senior chief petty officer, and finally master chief petty offficer. Important to remember that the chief petty officers run the navy. O's in the Navy are just for show. Unless they are pilots. In which case they are hard working heros. Ashamed to say as a Marine Corps Officer I forget the rest. Any of you lazy assed, know nothing swabies out there to help me?

Perhaps he was a petty officer, I can not recall these details. It was in '92 or '93 when I toured the Nimitz.
In any event it looked like to me he carried a fair amount of authority.
One detail I do remember. He wasn't in blues, his uniform shirt was khaki.

Evil Bastard Slime-Toads
Got a spoof e-mail just now to another hotmail account, and it's really slick, and really sick:
It is better quality than most spoof e-mails I receive, and the grammar is flawless. Only a close reading of the punctuation reveals it's a fraud. After searching out the IP addresses, I discovered the mail originated from a Singaporean web provider and the spoof site is hosted in Beijing.
I forwarded the mail off to stop-spoofing@amazon.com and I would encourage anyone else who receives this email to do the same. I lack the time to come up with sufficiently harsh invective to convey my contempt for these parasites. They are worse than looters, I believe, since they are effectively stealing from the Red Cross as well as from the owners of the credit card numbers they will steal. They prey on the generosity of good people, and they deserve no better than a looter would receive if he were caught stealing from the Red Cross.
PLEASE NOTE: This spoof e-mail did not actually come from Amazon.com–it was mocked up by criminals in Asia to appear as if it came from Amazon. Amazon is another victim in this matter, as their reputation and relationships with their customers are damaged by it.

About Lance and EPO
OK, I've been commenting on a lot of blogs about the Lance Armstrong/EPO accusations, and figured it's about time to put my thoughts into a blog post. First of all Daily Pundit can get you caught up on the all-important minutia of the controversy: whether the EPO test is definitive; what a "B sample" is; what the specific accusations are and who's making them; and what kind of things strike people as suspicious about choices made by L’Equipe. Go get caught up.
1
The French media have been after him since day one. I don’t trust the chain of custody with these samples from 1999. How does anyone know who had access to them?
These samples could have been tampered with anytime over the last 7 years.
I’ll stick with Lance on this one.

I would have bet the French would have supported the Iraq war if they could have defeated Lance
Lance's record establishes a bar that is going to stand for a long long long time.
I am with you, the later years were full of valid sophisticated drug testing methodology and they found nothing. By the time Lance had won 6 times, you know they had him tested everytime he walked by.
Unless someone can prove he tested positive in the last win, it's just a bucnh of smoke.

It comes down to the French jsut want to get them, mostly because their cycling hero of the 90's and 2000's Richard Virenque (who won a record 7 King of the Mountains) will for ever be tained when he confessed under oath to using performance enchancing drugs as a fall out from when his Festina team was kicked out of the Tour in 1998, when a health assistant got busted by customs bring the drugs into the country.
On a side note Armstrong did admit he had been administered EPO during his chemotherapy, but never in racing.

Beth Geisel Gets DWI
(Albany, New York) Most people, after finding themselves in a hole, quit digging. Not 42-year-old Sandra "Beth" Geisel. Remember, it's only been a couple weeks since she was indicted for rape of a student in a high-profile case that has embarrassed and humiliated her children, her husband, her friends, and the Christian Brothers Academy.
Yet today, around 0830 EDT, she decides to drive while sloshed, cuts off a police car, and gets arrested for driving while intoxicated. She blew a 0.13 on the breathalyzer. And this all happened before 9am.
The only explanation I can figure for Geisel's behavior is that she's trying to fortify her contention that the hooch made her commit the rape of a student, or that she's exceedingly stupid. In either case, she's a menace to society.
1
I would be suprised if she stops here. Looks to me like she's gonna plead insanity. This should help.

This woman needs help. As a parent myself, I would never leave my kids in a motel room & go drinking all night & forget about them. She’s made one bad judgment call after another concerning her own kids & so far she’s been lucky, & the kids have not been hurt or killed. But it’s just a matter of time before her luck runs out & these kids either seriously injured, abducted or killed either by direct or indirect negligence of “momâ€.
She’s got an alcohol problem & my guess is that she probably felt the calling of the booze, so she left the kids sleeping in the room at around 10 or 11 pm, went out somewhere all night drinking or God only knows what else, then morning came before she knew it, & in her “drunken fog†found herself lost & probably flagged down those that “stranger†for directions back to her hotel & at that time the police got her.
Right now this woman is a danger to herself, others on the road, & if there are kids in her care, she’s a danger to them as well. She may love her kids very much, but b/c her head is not on straight, she is incapable of being a good, responsible parent to those kids. Her husband & the law need to intervene now, before it’s too late, & we are reading some very sad & unfortunately news about her children instigated by their mom’s inability to think straight. So, yes, I agree, her kids need to be saved from her & she needs to be saved from herself. It doesn’t matter what Beth Geisel says, her family need to put their foot down & not allow her to continue to put these kids in danger by allowing her to have them in her care. Those kids could have been killed in an actual fire, & when the law found out they were “neglected†by their mom while she was drunk & lost on the other side of town, that could have added to the list of charges already against her. Thank God, that didn’t happen. She was lucky! The kids were lucky! But luck has a way of running out & one day so could the lives of Geisel’s children.

Where is the limit to the disgrace this woman will bring on herself, the kids and her family? Why doesn't her husband beat the crap out of her for all of this dishonor she has brought down on him? Heck why doesnt he beat the crap out of her for putting "his" kids in danger the way she did? If those were my kids and anyone did that to them, they surely earn a very bad body hurting from me.

Sexual predator lives out high school fantasy?
August 04, 2005 12:17 PM EST
One has to ask the question, how many of these stealthy child predators are working in our schools, both public and private? Sandra Beth Geisel, a wife currently separated from her banking executive husband, is the latest in a continual outing of female child rapists.
Let's deal with some facts out in the open. Women have been having their way with young, underage and inexperienced boys since forever. Obviously, this doesn't happen to every boy, but it happens far more than society would like to admit. What was once seen as some perverse rite of passage (having your virginity taken by an adult female) is now beginning to be seen for what it truly is - statutory rape.
As men, we are going to have to decide that we and the young men growing up around us have value as human beings. We don't want some psychologically-stank pervert deflowering our young daughters, either forcefully or through suave manipulation, and that goes without saying. However, how serious are we about having that same conviction about our sons? Why should their innocence be written off just because they're males?
Yet, that is the message that society sends through its silence and taps on the wrists of female sexual predators. One has to wonder when enough will be enough and parents, family, close friends and responsible members of society will demand that young boys have their youth as zealously protected as that of young girls.
We all know that men have been preying on young girls and women and that's wrong, period. Now, what are we going to do about women preying on young boys - ignore it as we've done in the past or step up and deal with it like responsible adults? I encourage you to write your Local, State and Federal representatives in government and demand that female sexual predators receive the same sentencing handed down to male offenders.

About 20 gay inmates were forced to remove their clothes in a busy hallway July 19 at the Men's Central Jail while being called names and taunted with vulgar sexual language by some deputies, the ACLU said in a letter to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, citing inmates' claims.
"Such behavior by staff demonstrates a level of immaturity, lack of professionalism, and sadism, which tarnishes the reputation of the entire department," wrote Ricardo Garcia and Jody Kent, who monitor jailhouse issues for the ACLU of Southern California.
The ACLU wanted anti-discrimination training for all deputies.
The same thing happened to me. I went to boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois, and was called names and taunted with vulgar sexual language everyday. It's nice to see the ACLU devoting resources to the dangerous problem of name-calling. What a bunch of dicks.

I find it hard to believe that anyone in the ACLU ever went to Boot Camp. Or ever had any other contact with the real world. They live in a "Soma" induced dream world.

I thought they were all going to Canada if Bush won. What happened he won 9 months ago? Why are they still here?

And then you have the real truth. Which is they are housed in separate units away from the general population. They wear different colored clothing to distinguish them. They are comfortable and well treated they often return a few days after begin released just to gosip with the friends.

My heart's bleeding purple peanut butter for them. When I went through the service entrance exam, and was duckwalking(to this day, I haven't figured THAT one out) with a dozen other naked recruits and being hoorahed by the supervising Jr. NCOs, you didn't hear us complaining, at least not in the news. Also, if we had done it out loud, I'd have spent even MORE time pushing prime Georgia real estate away. I did Basic, AIT, and Airborne back to back at Benning, and 4 years later, one of the phases of Ranger school there, and I think that was enough.....;0)
