This is a Bad Idea

The 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York has announced that it will start holding one monthly memorial service, instead of individual services for soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. A base spokesman says that the change is for scheduling reasons, and doesn't indicate an increase in the number of casualties.

The reason for the change doesn't matter because this is a bad move. Each soldier and his or her family have made a unique sacrifice, more than worthy of individual recognition.

This will also give assholes like the Phelps family plenty of notice so that they can have enough time to travel to the ceremony and do their thing. Yeah, this is one retarded idea alright.

3 Perhaps the events are more than the troops can bear at one time per casualty.
Perhaps the Army is facing a larger casualty list to come for some unknown reason and are trimming back.
Perhaps the Army feels it's more important to spend time training not to die and to win than to show honors for every individual troop who is KIA
Question the effects on morale if every individual troop KIA in WW2 was honored in this fashion.

4 I guess the soldiers' untimely deaths could not be fit into the schedule.   The reasons the above commenter gave were not the reasons provided in the announcement.  A real morale booster.

5 Maybe they could just dump the bodies in a pit and throw some lime on them.  It would be a real help with the scheduling and all.  Assholes.

I've been to Fort Drum. There's no way the Phelps anuses would get on the base.

7 There's something more to it and somebody has tossed out a legitimate reason for it. I just don't know what it is.

8 Bad idea, with worse timing. Typical Bush blunder.

9 Teh Stoopid is spreading. I need a mask before I catch it too. BTW, Fox has picked up on that camp in Red House Va where the black muslimes are holed up. I found a sattelite shot where I can zoom in on Sheik Galiani Lane. There are no discernable structures from the air. None. What does that mean? I don't know but to be sure I had the right picture I did a search at three different sites. Google, Yahoo, and Terra something. All three took me to the same place.

10 While I believe each soldier needs a memorial service, I also believe they get one, back home.  Could you imagine if a unit held a memoral service for every single soldier killed during World War II?  They would never get anything done because they would be spending all day in memorial services.  Besides, it can have a negative psychological impact on the troops if they are going to another memorial day after day after day.

We are getting ready to witness the highest level of action since the initial invasion with what should be unfolding soon in Diyala province.  That is going to be a huge, fast-paced battle that will take months.  I don't think we are going to have time to stand everyone down attend memorials every other day.

11 Typical Bush blunder.

I am sick of Bush but do you really think that he has the time to micro manage every decision make by the military.

12 Bush is merely making sure Fred gets elected. I mean who the hell would want someone to the left of him?

13 This must be happening all over, as a matter of policy. Ft. Lewis near Tacoma, WA. has just announced the same thing.

HOWEVER, news reports today have them as "re-considering" their decision.

14 Thankfully our men and women are not getting killed in the numbers as they were during WW2. I see no reason why the military cannot continue to be more personal in their expression of sorrow for having lost another of ours to the enemy. Especially when they have a knack for allowing the same mistakes to happen repeatedly.

Thank God we are finally getting the people who were fighting us to see we are the answer and not AQ.

15 The same thing is happening in Fort Lewis in Washington state.  But here the reason is the 'horrific number of casualties' according to the F media:

BuT after the families started to complain the commander is reconsidering:

16 Randman, he may not have been in the decision-making loop, but he should have put a stop to such a policy before now. j/s

17 Both sides have a point. I believe most military casualities are buried in family plots or local cemetaries.
