Tsunami Death Toll Exceeds 55,000
The extent of the disastrous undersea earthquake off the west coast of Sumatra is becoming clearer. Channel AsiaNews reports confirmed deaths at 27,174 in Indonesia, more than 17,640 in Sri Lanka, 8,523 in India, 4,000 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 1,439 in Thailand, 65 in Malaysia, 90 in Myanmar, 55 in The Maldives, 100 in Somalia, 10 in Tanzania, 2 in Bangladesh for a total greater than 55,000. Xinhua reports similar numbers.

I cannot even imagine a disaster of this proportion. And critics are saying that someone shoulda seen it coming! How can the countries that aren't equipped with that kind of stuff tell when it's going to hit?
Do they know when the next earthquake will hit LA? They can always guess but do they ever really know?
I'm surprised so many of these places are tourist attractions. It was feared many westerners were missing or presumed dead.
Shit, if I had to flee to a warmer climate, I'd pick the Bahamas or Virgin Islands. I wouldn't go way the hell to Indonesia or Sri Lanka to sunbathe!
