They Shoot Hizballah, Don't They?

Cross-posted from The Dread Pundit Bluto

Ignore the irony of Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni being interviewed by a reporter from the country that enabled the murder of six million Jews, and enjoy the relentless logic of Livni's plain-spoken replies. Here, Livni tells the Spiegel reporter, in effect, that Hizballah must cease to exist before there can be peace:

SPIEGEL: What is the goal of the military action?

Livni: It's not only about the goal of the military action but about the demands of the international community that we explicitly share. They are: there must be a government and an army in Lebanon. There can no longer be militias and terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah. Hezbollah must be completely disarmed. They should no longer have the ability to be armed by Syria and Iran. In southern Lebanon there can be no more Hezbollah bases. The Lebanese army must be stationed there in its place. The global community a while ago demanded that the Lebanese government fulfill its responsibilities. It hasn't yet done so.

Pathetically, Livni must explain the difference between legitimate self-defense and terrorism for an increasingly stupid and disingenuous world audience:
SPIEGEL: How do you react to the massive international criticism of the many innocent victims?

Livni: I very much regret the civilian victims. But there is a very significant difference between us and our enemies: we are defending ourselves against anyone who attacks us and use every means possible to prevent hitting civilians. The Hezbollah, however, intentionally aims its weapons at the houses of uninvolved citizens, at women and children. Israel only attacks areas where, according to our knowledge, there are terrorists. The problem is that the Hezbollah hides some of its weapons in apartment houses.

Translation for Monsieur Chirac of Fwance: "We're killing vicious terrorists who hide behind women and children, you effeminate dhimmi-monkey©. Duh."

1 Bluto, you really hate Germany, don't you?  The country's relationship with Israel is among the strongest in Europe.  They have given billions to the Jewish state.  Their foreign minister is trusted deeply by the Israeli leadership.  You don't have to bring up the Holocaust every time you bring up Germany and Israel.  Israelis don't...

And what is wrong with Der Speigel's journalist asking for the response to international criticism?  that's a neutral question that could be asked by an Israeli journalist.  You see media bias everywhere, whether it is present or not.  There's been a lot more coverage in the last week of the "hostile media hypothesis" including a short readable summary of the research in the Washington Post.  I really think you would benefit from reading it.

2 Hezbollah hides its weapons in apt. houses? Well then the obvious Israeli solution is to blow the apt house up and kill all the Christians in the ajacent apts. Be sure and drop leaflets first telling them to leave the city. Question. Just where does a christian with 6 children and no money go in the middle east?

Posted by: Scott at July 25, 2006 09:53 AM (nAOU7)

3 Looking at the news there must be a terrorist weapons cache in every housing complex in Beirut.
I wonder if those Christian kids believe killing them is justified by either side.
Does it make any difference to a mother who blows up her children? If Hezbollah does it, its a terrible crime. If Jews do it, its not.
Yea right!
The Jews need to get some and fight the fighters and quit blowing up those not fighting.
This is the same Lt. Calley in Viet Nam. He was killing the terrorist cong. By killing everyone in the village.
Just whats the difference. When you target an apt complex full of people to kill one or two terrorists you are quilty of murder. Unless you are a Jew. Then its merely self defense. Bullshit!

4 jd: Stop reading things into the post that aren't there. I appreciate historic irony, if you haven't forgiven the Germans who voted Hitler's party into power, that's your problem.

I'm not really interested in wasting time on the excuse du jour for bias in today's journalism. Peddle your propaganda somewhere else.

Scott: To answer your question, they don't go anywhere that the thugs of Hizballah, holding them at gunpoint, don't want them to go.

Interesting how the Jawa Report has become a magnet for terrorist sympathizers/apologists like you.

5 It's not an excuse for bias.  It's an explanation for people who are strong partisans of both sides who see bias everywhere.  It would take you 4 minutes to read.

As for a "terrorist sympathizer" I think that's gotten pretty old as an attack on me.  I don't think anyone reading my comments fairly would make that mistake.  I may be misguided in my views on what our foreign and national security policy are, but if I am, it does not stem from sympathy for terrorists.  I know it makes you feel better about yourself to imagine that those who disagree with you do so because they are evil, or sympathize with evil, but the world is so much more complex than that.  Come down and join the reality based community, where Americans who disagree are usually people of good intent, who have much to teach us.  You can wall yourself off from all debate and new information if you believe the media is entirely biased, and people who disagree with you are terrorist sympathizers.

6 I don't see every housing  complex in Lebanon bombed!  How do you know that those kids are Christian?  The terroists are the ones hiding behind civilians, but I bet those people don't blame the terrorists for the deaths.  A lot of these people will support the terrorists over Israel no matter what happens.  At least Israel is making an effort to not hurt civilians, I can't say the same for Hezbollah.  If people know there are terrorists in their building and they know that they are the ones that the Israelis are going after, wouldn't it be a smart move to get the heck out?!

7 Question. Just where does a christian with 6 children and no money go in the middle east?

Answer: To Church.

Next question please.

8 The Dread Pundit Bluto. I see you have joined those that have nothing but excuses for the Israelis. My reply is.
(1) You are nothing but a lying piece of shit when you call me sympathizer/apologist. I am one who has a problem with the killing of innocents when not needed. My hatred for the terrorists knows no bounds. As I've said before, If I have my way there wouldn't be a mosque left standing in the world. Does that sound like a sympathizer. Law and common sense says that you cannot kill innocents just to avenge what someone has done to you. Kill the terrorists. Kill the killers. That is not what I am seeing with my own eyes in Beirut.
(2) When one questions the neccessity of killing people far to the north of the action and receieves the reply you made that means you are nothing but a agent for Israel. So screw you. Americans are my people. My concern is for America and Christianity. If the Jews are yours move to Israel.
(3) "They don't go anywhere that the thugs of Hezbollah holding them at gunpoint, don't want them to go"
That is pure bullshit and you know it. Millions of people being held at gunpoint by Hezbollah. You have lost all creditbility with me. Why lie? What will it get you in the end?
(4) You are nothing but an Apologist/sympathizer for the Jews. You probably are one so I understand. I'm not one so you don't understand that my sympathy lies with more than the Jews. I care about all innocents being killed and maimed over something they cannot control.
(5) I have always been fanatically in Israels corner. But those like you and the actions of the IDF in Beirut calls for some serious thinking.
(6) Calling me an apologist for the Muslims? Fuck you.

9 jd: when did you start responding to the name "Scott"?

Please stop trying to propagandize for the asinine "theory" of "hostile media bias" as an excuse for dishonest reporting by pretending to display it.

The most effective and pervasive agenda journalism technique is in the selection of stories.

10 Scott: "millions" under the gun from the evil Joooos and only a couple hundred killed? If you're not a terrorist sympathizer, you're an idiot who swallows Islamist propaganda with relish.

Fuck me? No thanks, I'm hetero and married; not that there's anything wrong with your urges, but don't your fundamentalist leaders frown on that sort of thing anyway?

With your level of, to use a phrase loosely, reasoning ability, I think you might find more fulfillment and amusement at a site like SmellyPoop.com.

And btw, I'm a Lutheran - God's favorite religion.

11 Bluto: Your an asshole and an apologist for the Jews. Nothing else. If you are truly a Christian. Then you are a traitor to them. You are married. God she must be ugly.

12 Hey, Bluto, here's a joke I'm sure you will appreciate.  If it makes you laugh, take 5 minutes and read the hostile media hypothesis article:

Two boys in Boston were playing baseball when one of them was attacked by a rabid Rottweiler. Thinking quickly, the other boy ripped a board off of a nearby fence, wedged it into the dog's collar and twisted it, breaking the dog's neck.

A newspaper reporter from the Boston Herald witnessed the incident and rushed over to interview the boy. The reporter began entering data into his laptop, beginning with the headline,"Brave Young Red Sox Fan Saves Friend From Jaws Of Vicious Animal"

"But I'm not a Red Sox fan," the little hero interjected. "Sorry" replied the Reporter. "But since we're in Boston, I just assumed you were." Hitting the delete key, the reporter began, "John Kerry Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Dog Attack"

"But I'm not a John Kerry fan either," the boy responds. The reporter says, "I assumed everybody in this state was either for the Red Sox, John Kerry, or Ted Kennedy. What team or person do you like?''

"I'm a Texas Ranger fan, and I really like George W. Bush" the boy says.

Hitting the delete key, the reporter begins again: "Arrogant Little Conservative Bastard Kills Beloved Family Pet"

14 Perspective:  Israel is God's chosen people. They will prevail against all foes. America is the bulldog in assistance, a pawn if you will. But at least a good pawn!

Scott, you have shown your true colors by lashing out and insulting Dread's wife. That is your particular brand of collateral damage. You suck!

Posted by: Last gasp Larry at July 25, 2006 02:02 PM (gLMre)

15 excuse me, but there are ppl outside the bipartisan consensus. israel is bombing the mennonite christians? israel and christians are supposedly allies, so why bomb allies? what is israel thinking? many ppl on all sides of the political system are just dictators who hunger for more police power, at the sacrifice of innocent blood! why is there not a greater outcry from within israel itself? after all, there are joint palestinian-jewish groups who oppose the conflict and only want peace.

Posted by: anarchistmanifesto at July 25, 2006 02:30 PM (aKAAv)

16 Attaboy jd, it was a funny story. However, I'm not interested in wasting time on yet another 2 + 2 = 5 story about how media bias is a psychological phenomenon.

Scott: what a maroon.

antichristmanfredo: does it hurt to be a living cliche?

21 I'm sorry Scott, did you say something? I'm afraid your mother's thighs were blocking my hearing for the moment. She's quite energetic and gives one a real "bang" for the buck.

PS: Your mom says you've been a problem child ever since you saw her with your first "uncle" John.

31 Poodles, hondo? Maybe toy poodles, but Scottie makes me think more of the black knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Dealing with him makes you feel dirty, like beating up an obnoxious but wimpy drunk in a bar.

Then again, ignorant Georgia crackers like Scott, who hate Jews on principle and think they've discovered in "anti-Zionism" a socially acceptable way to express their bigotry, deserve to be crushed like cockroaches.

Posted by: The Dread Pundit Bluto at July 26, 2006 09:31 AM (vBK4C)

32 No need to break out the Holy Hand Grenade then ... these poodles or white bunnies have yet to rise to the ocassion and are still gnawing at the ankles.
