I've decided to take a respite from blogging for a few weeks to attend to some important business. It occurred to me, however, that I shouldn't do this without leaving you with three juicy bits (all of which are easily located on the Intertubes today.)
The first order of business is linked by Drudge. From the WSJ (complete article unavailable without subscription), there is speculation that Pelosi actually violated US law by conducting her flawed "shadow diplomacy" campaign. USA Today and the WaPo are also none too pleased (!). Undermining the Constitutional authority of the President, in wartime or in peace, is illegal. Logan Act, passed in 1799. Google it. Better yet, read it:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.Next, we have a prime catch by Johnny Dollar. As Keith Olbyloon's proverbial thorn, he demonstrated quite hilariously that Olbermann doctored a quote by Bill O'Reilly to smear him on his daily leftwing hate-fest of a show (SOP for the failed sports anchor.)This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.
The leftwing smear site "Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting," I'm sure, is all over Olbermann for this. NOT.
Lastly, we have a selection from the "liberal canard-busters" file. There is no "BLOOD FOR OIL" or "WAR FOR OIL." If you Bush-bashers have a problem with that, take it up with your pals at CNN:
Despite claims by some critics that the Bush administration invaded Iraq to take control of its oil, the first contracts with major oil firms from Iraq's new government are likely to go not to U.S. companies, but rather to companies from China, India, Vietnam, and Indonesia.Stay well, all. I'll be back shortly. No mercy for America's enemies, foreign or domestic.
