Former Jemaah Islamiya Member On Salafism, Islam

In this article Tawfik Hamid sneds a wake up call to western liberals.

Tawfik Hamid via WSJ: …there is much that is clearly wrong with the Islamic world. Women are stoned to death and undergo clitorectomies. Gays hang from the gallows under the approving eyes of the proponents of Shariah, the legal code of Islam. Sunni and Shia massacre each other daily in Iraq. Palestinian mothers teach 3-year-old boys and girls the ideal of martyrdom. One would expect the orthodox Islamic establishment to evade or dismiss these complaints, but less happily, the non-Muslim priests of enlightenment in the West have come, actively and passively, to the Islamists’ defense.

These “progressives” frequently cite the need to examine “root causes.” In this they are correct: Terrorism is only the manifestation of a disease and not the disease itself. But the root-causes are quite different from what they think. As a former member of Jemaah Islamiya, a group led by al Qaeda’s second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, I know firsthand that the inhumane teaching in Islamist ideology can transform a young, benevolent mind into that of a terrorist. Without confronting the ideological roots of radical Islam it will be impossible to combat it. While there are many ideological “rootlets” of Islamism, the main tap root has a name—Salafism, or Salafi Islam, a violent, ultra-conservative version of the religion.

It is vital to grasp that traditional and even mainstream Islamic teaching accepts and promotes violence. Shariah, for example, allows apostates to be killed, permits beating women to discipline them, seeks to subjugate non-Muslims to Islam as dhimmis and justifies declaring war to do so. It exhorts good Muslims to exterminate the Jews before the “end of days.” The near deafening silence of the Muslim majority against these barbaric practices is evidence enough that there is something fundamentally wrong….

…Worst of all, perhaps, is the anti-Americanism among many Westerners. It is a resentment so strong, so deep-seated, so rooted in personal identity, that it has led many, consciously or unconsciously, to morally support America’s enemies.

Progressives need to realize that radical Islam is based on an antiliberal system. They need to awaken to the inhumane policies and practices of Islamists around the world. They need to realize that Islamism spells the death of liberal values.

The doctrine of hate that the terrorists follow is the antithesis of traditional liberal values. Traditional liberal values are as much my birthright as anyone’s. It is a part of the fabric of America. But some on the left have a romantic notion that tolerance includes being tolerant of the knife at their throat and the suffering of millions. Tolerance becomes a crime, when applied to evil! Therefore modern progressive liberalism, if not a crime already, is destined to be remembered as such.

It is a tragedy that his words of truth will fall upon the deaf ears of liberalism. Were they just to fall upon deaf ears it would merely be a shame, but America’s liberals will deride insult and cast every imaginable derision upon his character for his daring to speak such words against Islam.  For what this honest courageous individual has said he shall be cast upon the flames of a pyre and marinated in pork grease then eviscerated with such venom that only a Islamic decree of apostasy could  have a  carry a more  serious charge.

2 That's why I say OUTLAW ISLAM. Also Rusty is nuts. You cannot get along with these animals.

3 greyrooster, I think the truth lies somewhere between your view, and Rusty's.  To many people, Islam, and Sharia are the same.  We know Sharia cannot exist without replacing the laws that came before it, so we know it cannot exist in the USA without attacking our Constitution. Human sacrifice is against the law, and I think a case can be made to examine Sharia in the same light.  Some religious practices are simply not going to work in a free country. I'd like to know how Rusty addresses this concern?
                      USA, all the way!

4 Don't bet it can't exist here.  They are trying to impose it one little bit at a time.  Everytime you read about a Veil at the DMV or IMANs at the airport it is a chink in our armor.  We are asleep.  WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE!  THEY WANT TO KILL US!

5 Michael Weaver,

I'm afraid Unclezeb is right, it isnt just one haib here a mosque over there trying to force a pig farm to move or a group of Emans complaining about being kicked off an airplane there. It is a systematic attempt to erode our constitution so that they can replace it with Sharia. Hell CAIR has come out dozens of times and said exactly that. The world we live in now is so permeated by Islamic fascism that you really do need to look at every single Muslim as either a terrorist in waiting or a terrorist supporter. Personally I think for the national security of this nation it is time to rebuild Manzanar.

7 We attacked Iraq. Are the Salafi's from Iraq or Saudi Arabia? Which war did you support, the one for oil and geo-political reasons or the one against those who attacked our way of life? Wake up Republicans. You blew it.

8 I'm not so sure about that, Saudi Arabia is a source of Salafism but the The Salafis consider the rulers there as  illegitimate. Thus all the killing of the Salafi Jihadis the Saudis have done the last few years.  I don't diagree that Saudi Arabia can do more but the Saudi government has always been a group you can "deal with" so to speak.  Saddam and hte Taliban were not.  Subtle difference but it's there.

9 tbone, I DO respect your concern with the Saudi's and it is extremely valid. I hate this, but I do believe we need to work around the Saudi's if only for the simple reason of keeping the Muslims who aren't active jihadists, from becoming active. Attacking Saudi Arabia now, is about the only action we could take which I really do believe would increase the terrorist threat in a way we are't ready for. If you disagree, thats fine, and you are entitled.

10 Tbone: I don't respect your concern. And you ain't entitled to shit. Get your black muslim ass back to the mosque. Creep.

12 Actually, I think in the long term we will still be forced to nuke Mecca, if only to shatter the myth of Islamic global conquest. Sad but likely in my doomsday list of predictions.

13 Michael: Rusty's stand is that he knows a muslim who is a good guy. Therefore we should put up with the shit from the other 1,000,000,000.
