Talabani Doesn't Believe German Hostage Will Be Killed

Perhaps a case of whistling past the graveyard, but Iraqi President Jalal Talabani thinks that German hostage Susanne Osthoff will not be killed. Osthoff is an archaeologist abducted nearly two weeks ago. From United Press International:

"There is no reason or motive for terrorists to kill a German citizen," he said in a television interview Sunday night. "Germany did not have any troops here and did not take part in the war."

"We have tried our best to find out where she is and which group is behind the kidnapping," he told German public TV station ARD, adding that he deemed it helpful for German politicians to continue to speak publicly about the kidnapping.

Unfortunately, terrorists do a lot of things without rational reason or motive, but we can only hope that Talabani is right on this.

Osthoff's kidnapping has been overshadowed in the news by the abductions of the four Christian Peacemaker Teams members.

3 The motivation is ransom. This theft extorted by murder is just one of the many violations of the Ten Commandments sanctioned by Islam, on the grounds that those damned Jews and Christians are not true to the Mosaic law.

4 Alec,

The Koran encourages just this kind of thing. It clearly says to kill the infidel and take their riches. If the victim is not Muslim, then it is not a crime. This was the gasoline that fueled the jihad; the looting, raping, and enslaving of people for the riches this provided.

That is why muslims true to their faith cannot be trusted when the knives come out.

6 No reason or motive? They just make them up as they go along. Talibani is being very naive about this one.

7 Maybe the Germans will learn that they should have been there. I mean aren't the Germans the ones who caused the movement of Jews to a homeland? Which in turn caused the displacement of the palestinian people. Which caused the hated and side taking by other nations. Shit!! this entire crap in the middle east was caused by the Germans slaughter of another people. Maybe, the muslims are just copying what they seen the Germans do to the Jews. Asshole Germans. May the French Frogs invade you. Naw! On second thought the frogs couldn't whip their own asses.
