Have we finally witnessed the ascendency of the Zarqawi method of filmed beheadings for political gain among radical Salafi Muslims in the West? The plotters, it is said, wanted a repeat of the beheading murder of Ken Bigley---who was personally killed by Zarqawi.
The arrests were in Birmingham, which leads us to suspect that followers of Omar Bakri Mohammed, who have a large following there, were involved. One of Bakri Muhammed's followers is pictured right. The Sun:

The soldier, a Muslim man in his 20s, was now under police guard, the paper said, quoting security sources.Not surprising, if you scroll through that article, many Muslims already circling the wagons around those arrested as "innocent" and "victims".

A plot to kidnap and behead a British soldier on videotape was only "days away" and led to the arrests today of nine men in Birmingham, England, a Scotland Yard source tells ABC News.UPDATE: Or could this be the work of Maktabah Al Ansaar, a Birmingham based "bookstore" which "doesn't support terrorism" but which specializes in selling English language jihadi propaganda--including the video: "21st Century Crusaders: A War on Muslims in Iraq and Palestine". The group also at one time had "exclusive" video of Osama bin Laden. Glen Jenvey tells me that he thinks so.
The fact that the 9 men arrested are of Pakistani descent (not uncommon for British Muslims) also points in this direction. Another video: Indias War on Islam
The physical location of Maktabah al Ansar is in Birmingham. The person who registered the website is in Birmingham. Which, isn't surprising. What is surprising is that the webhost is also in Birmingham. THIS ALMOST NEVER HAPPENS. In fact, this is the first time I have EVER seen that happen. And the technical contact for the host would also appear to be Muslim.
Looks like Glen Jenvey's hunch was right. Via Allah, this:
An Islamic bookstore in Birmingham, which was today cordoned off by police in a massive anti-terrorism raid, was exposed by The Times just days after the July 7 bombings as selling ‘incendiary works’ glorifying suicide bombing and anti-Semitism…UPDATE: More from The Sun (in sidebar). Previous owner of the bookshop was a Gitmo detainee, who was released by President Bush over the objections of the CIA and FBI. Begg claimed that he was in Taliban controlled Afghanistan as a "teacher" (we know what that meant) where he had gone in 2001 from Britain. Get that, he left Britain to go to Afghanistan to help the Taliban. He also admits to raising money for the "mujahideen" in Afghanistan--aka, the Taliban. He is allegedly an associate of Richard Reid.
Now he claims victim status. But you'll notice a common theme at his former bookstore and among Muslim jihadis in general: they are victims and the jihad is a response to this victimization from [insert here: West, India, Jews, Russia, etc]:
The bookshop was previously run by Moazzam Begg - who was a detainee at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba until 2005 - and whilst under Begg's ownership was raided by Mi5 in 2000.This is getting interesting. The Taliban supporter is now the darling of the Left, showing up in ZNet just a couple of days ago.Three year's later anti-terror cops swooped on the bookshop again but no charges were laid.
