Sarkozy Wooing Cheese-eating Surrender Monkeys

Via the Jerusalem Post:

France's interior minister, Nicolas Sarkozy, formally clinched the ruling conservatives' presidential nomination Sunday, pushing a pivotal race for a discouraged nation into high gear.

The ruling UMP party announced that Sarkozy, the sole person listed on the party ballot, had won a vote by registered members. He now faces a tight race against the top contender on the left, Socialist Segolene Royal, for the elections in April and May.

...

Sarkozy has earned both kudos and vitriol for promising to cut cherished workplace protections, championing tough police tactics in hardscrabble housing projects and sending illegal immigrants back to Africa and elsewhere.

He says he is trying to snap France out of its slump: He says the French are overtaxed, overburdened by government fees that crimp innovation, too resistant to speaking English and ill-prepared for globalization.

RedState has a profile of Sarkozy here:
Sarkozy is now 51 years old. His father emigrated to France from Hungary and his mother is French. He's a lawyer, which together with his youth distinguishes him sharply from France's ruling class, who generally have degrees in government, from Sciences-Po or the Ecole Nationale.

He is seen as intellectually sympathetic to both Britain (specifically with Tony Blair) and with the US. Most significantly, he is seen as a "hard-liner" on immigration. As Interior Minister, he has pushed policies that seek to curb illegal immigration, but also to improve the prospects for employment of skilled youth, including Muslim youth.

There are warts, of course. He has been against our mission in Iraq (naturally), and as Finance Minister has shown protectionist instincts. Here's a profile on him from the BBC.

1 By the lack of comments it seems as if french bashing is loosing its audience.
Still there are some die hard neocons left that "stay the course" and enjoy to call the french bad names. They should get to grip with reality cause soon they may be called Bigmac-eating cut and run bigots.

2 My friend, France-bashing will NEVER go out of style!

3 American: "You'd be speaking German if it wasn't for the US"

Frenchman: "Well, you'd be speaking English if it wasn't for France!"

4 Michael Liar:

The French will never let French-bashing lose its audience.

Don't know what neocons you're referring to, because there aren't any in the Bush cabinet, but last time I checked, it was the hate America left screeching for a retreat from the terrorists. Maybe you meant to write "dem Jooos?" We all know how moonbats and the French feel about Jews.

Do you want some cheese with your whine, you little rat-bastard?

5 Tboner:

The French entered the Revolutionary War at the last second, once it became clear that America would win. Its contribution was incosequential. Try reading some history instead of DU propaganda.

I could list a hundred French jokes, all of them funny. The one you pasted was excruciatingly unfunny. Did you get it from "The Daily Show," or the "Cobert Report?"

6 Jesus Carlosland Cherist, it was just a joke. We'd be speaking English? Get it? I heard that joke when I was a kid. Early would've been after Poland, I think.

7 T-boned:

I wasn't aware that England invaded Poland during the Revolutionary War.

8 Since you have difficulty reading as well as writing English, let me clarify. My ID is tbone. I don't call you names. Name-calling is a hallmark of a lack of credible opinion. The other part of your insinuation is that we somehow fair better compared to France's tardy entry to our support while we certainly took our sweet time trying to figure out if Germany might actually win. Again: IT WAS A JOKE

9 T-boned:

France made a cosmetic contribution to America in the Revolutionary for self serving reasons--namely business relationships with the victors and a chance to hold on to territories in North america. France has been an enemy of America ever since. Not long after the revolutionary war, America almost went to war with france, and did indeed fight several undeclared naval wars.

America entered the war against germany when hitler declared war on America, you ignoramus.

Do you want some cheese with your whine, rat? Or maybe some snails and frog legs.

12 Jeff: Funny thing about cobert (co-bay) is that when he was in school in South Carolina is name was cobert (co-bert).

14 The French. Screw the French. The French have been whipped in every stupid adventure they started. Their invasion of Mexico, Algeria, Africa, Canada, South America. Asia. Remember French Indo-China? They are the ones who started the shit in Viet-nam which we ended up entering to help the cause of freedom for Vietnamese who wished it. The frogs are jealous little shits who wish we would do as bad as they. If Germany went after them next monday morning I would laugh my ass off.
