Rep. Hensarling on Pelosi

Tonight, ABC News reported that Speaker Nancy Pelosi will skip a classified briefing tomorrow by General David Petraeus.
Speaker Pelosi will now be the second Democrat leader in Congress this week to insult American servicemen and their mission. The reckless words and actions that we have seen and heard from Democrat leaders are inexcusable and reveal a blatant disregard for the men and women who wear our nationâ€™s uniform.
I hope that after a night of rest and reflection, the Speaker reconsiders this decision and shows General Petraeus, the men and women serving in our armed forces, and their families the respect that they deserve.

2 She is attempting to give herself plausible deniability. If she never hears any good news, she can say she 'hasn't heard any good news' ! I used to play that game as a kid. It's sort of like using a "sorry officer, I didn't know it was illegal" type of arguement. I wonder how well it will work!? USA, all the way!

5 I don't think it is disrespectful at all. I think it is about time that someone stand up and say we are tired of wasting billions and billions of $$$$ on a war that is completely and utterly a worthless cause. Just because I don't support the war doesn't make me anti-American. It makes me a realist. You can NEVER get anywhere taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Bush has bent this country over and prison raped every US citizen since he has been in office. Have you ever thought about how much better off this country would be if Bush had taken that same amount of money and tried to feed it back into our OWN country on things such as healthcare, education, etc. etc????

8 The submission of the military to civilian govt is crucial to our democracy, and is jeopardized when that govt refuses to even show up to accept that submission. That is the only point of having most of those morons meeting with generals in the first place after all - it's not because someone like Pelosi would ever use the info provided by a general to make an intelligent or informed decision; it's simply to keep generals in the habit of reporting regularly to civvy leaders.

It's not much to ask - just frickin show up, fill a seat for a couple hours. Feel free to stare out the window, drool, or draw cartoons in the margins of your briefing - whatever, just be there, if for no other reason than to remind the military that ultimately it reports to civilians. That's all I ask.

Anyone in govt who would do what Pelosi did, or support someone who did it, should not be in office. It is that simple. This is an automatic responsibility of anyone elected to the office, and Pelosi's actions are an explicit abdication of same.

Needless to say this has given me renewed determination to make the polls.
