Rape and Honor

(Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) A 20-year-old Pakistani woman, Zarni, claimed she endured three years of being raped by her father before the authorities were notified. Subsequent to her father's arrest, Zarni was pressured by her mother to recant. She did and now Zarni is being sent back to Pakistan.

According to a neighbor,

"When she reaches Pakistan it will be her end, literally," said Umm Abdul Aziz. "She comes from a Balochi tribal family and they are known to be very unmerciful in rape situations. The only way they solve it is by killing the woman." It is generally referred to as honor killing.
Do I understand this situation correctly? Zarni was allegedly raped by her father, therefore, she must be killed.

Everything's bass ackwards. Even if Zarni filed a false report, which I frankly don't think is the case, she doesn't deserve to die.

1 Such wonderful, peaceful people. Why did we wait so long to let them into our countries? With such people as these, we could have solves all our problems long ago!

2 I don't get it! Its a total 180 from virtually the rest of the world's cultures (don't know 'bout Africa though). The correct response is to kill him HIM HIM. What kind of wack job honor system is this?

Hell! If the female is seen just as second-rate property to these morons then treat her as damaged goods and make the rapist pay - a few chickens, goats, some new socks.

If any female member of anyone here's family suffered like this, our first inclination would be to kill the son of a bitch! I feel I can freely speak for everyone here on this point.

If you object - then pleeeaaassseee! Explain this shit to us!

3 What do you expect from barbarians?
I would liken muslims to animals, but thats an insult to animals.
There are ZERO redeeming qualities to islam.  None.

And no one believes this except a few enlightened.

I wonder if, for whatever reason, God has hardened the hearts of the world over islam?  Just like HE kept Pharaoh from seeing the truth that Moses was telling him (pharaoh)?

4 Yes, and yes. How convenient for the rapist. Makes sense to me........yeah sure.

We COULD bomb these people back to the stone age, but they never left it......hmmmmm
The muslim use of terror, and the gullible media, in advancing their objectives is unlike anything we have ever seen before. And the reluctance of most people, particularly do-gooding liberals, to understand this could well be our doom.

5 I'm glad the vast majority of Christianity started to grow out of that kind of thing at the end of the Crusades.

I just think there's something in the water in that desert. To much Alkaline or something wacking out people's brains.

7 Sordid stories of Muslim justice like this one have played out many times in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.

One of the more notorious examples with the same pattern of punishing the victim is at the following link - Angela Woo.

8 Ranba, Christians never killed women for getting raped.

9 Where are the anti-death penalty people criticizing Saudi Arabia for sending this woman to a country where her death is imminent?

10 Wait until they find a way to blame America or President Bush for this and then they'll say something!

12 Christians may not have killed women for being raped, but they did often shun such women as 'harlots' or 'permiscuous'. I was referring to institutionalized killing in general, so I guess I should have pointed that out.

13 If it was a false report. Would the father have died?

14 Ranba, please cite specific instances, or accept the fact that you're full of shit.

15 I'm not exactly feeling the least bit kind towards islam lately - maybe its the heat and/or carpenter ants.

Is it possible we can find a compromise solution - and kill them both - works for me right now.

16 friggin carpenter bees are working on my new barn.

17 I have great news you guys! It looks like a bill in Pakistan that will take the law that a women needs 5 Muslim men witnesses in order to arrest the man who raped her out of the constitution. The law was put in ny the American-backed military dictator Zia al-Huq who is also famous for leading Jordanian troops in the Black September raid on the PLO.

19 Here is an informative and provocative website for anyone who needs to learn the truth about islam... or anyone who needs a refresher.

20 Oh yes MP,
This is how f@%ked up ass-bacwards "Islamic morality" is.
The Islamic substitues for the notions of "marriage" and "family" and even afterlife are nothing more than ploys that cater to the sexual appetites of Arab men with the objective of recruiting men of military age.
Here's an interesting article entitled "Family caricature in Islam"

21 Institutionalized violence/murder in Christianity: Inquisition, Crusades (primarily 1st and 4th), any of many witchhunts, any of many similar 'heretic' purges, the pogroms against the Jews and minority sects of Christianity that could be instigated by anything from a call to Crusade to a child disappearing (the so-called 'William' incident in England around the time of the first Crusade).

As for women having been raped being shunned, take a sociology class. Even as recent as 40 years ago many people in the US would treat a raped woman as 'unclean'. It still happens a lot, sadly, but on a slightly smaller scale than it did.

I know this is anecdotal, but I knew a few girls in highschool who had to drop out because they got hit with sedatives and raped; their parents were very religious Chrisians (one Presbeterian, one Catholic). The Catholic parents striaght up kicked her out of the household, the Presbies let their daughter stay but cut her off financially so she had to drop school to work to pay rent to her parents and for her vehicle.

Shame and awkwardness about the assault often shroud that reality. Because her rape occurred on a date and she did not report it immediately, Dezeeuw found her family and friends more shunning and hostile than supportive. Another woman, who was raped at 18, records how her father reacted by calling her a "slut" and a "whore" and telling her she had "asked for it." Her mother’s reaction was to tell her never to speak of it again.
From National Catholic Weekly Newspaper October 2000.

In addition, many women who are raped do not identify themselves as rape victims (Kahn, Mathie, & Torgler, 1994; Koss, 1985). One reason that women do not report rape and do not acknowledge being raped might be based in societal stereotypes surrounding sexual violence. Stereotypes about rape victims include the notions that she "asked" to be raped, secretly enjoyed the experience, or lied about it."
A bit of a long read, but about the perception of rape victims in the United States.

Much more than being physically violated, the victim of rape has been psychologically traumatized. Though research indicates that rape is an act of violence aimed toward control of a vulnerable victim, many people continue to believe, perhaps unconsciously, that the victim is partly to blame - she in some way "attracted" her attacker sexually. Thus the victim feels an irrational guilt or self-blame which is often strengthened by the reactions of family, friends, and society. Relations and friends, not wanting to discuss a painful subject, may harbor their own feelings of embarrassment. The victim is made to believe that she ought to conceal the fact of her rape at all costs. She feels confused and ashamed, "dirty" and "ruined."
From Baptist for Life, "The PSycholigical Turmoil" section.

Some of these may not explicitly state this is a Christian thing, but they are all about rape perceptions in the United States; a country that is 76-78% Christian (CIA World Factbook). Based on that you can extrapolate that these articles are chronicling the mainstream American Christian response to rape victims.

I'd dig more but I have an early start for work tomorrow.

22 You work? I thought you ragheads lived on welfare and sat at your computer all day tearing down the religion of the country nice enough to let you pricks move here. Shocking, absolutely shocking. Must be Canadian.

23 good job. clearly the importance here is not on the institutionalized and state-sanctioned rape of innocents at national scale in Islamic nations.

clearly what's important is american rape culture. I don't want to minimize the importance or prevalence of negative stigmas associated with american rape victims- i have no doubt it's true.

Why, just the other day at church, we stoned a filhy whore!

Oops. meant mosque.

what was the point again?

24 Sorry guys, but I'm not a muslim. Never intend to be. Protestant with no demoninational preference. I can't find a church in the area where the preacher isn't either creepier than hell or one of those money-grabbing freaks with the 'sanctuary' with the 10 jumbotrons.

I was asked to deliver citations and examples of what I was talking about, I did.

You also apparently didn't read my earlier posts either about how Christianity has grown past MOST of the bad stuff while Islam has stagnated in the violent past either.
