RedState : The Pirates of Tehran

An excellent post by my favorite new blogger:

[Iranians are] an educated and freedom-loving people for the most part, and reformers there have been begging us for support and sanctions that would weaken the ruling theocracy. Instead, they've just seen the Iranian dictatorship successfully bully the West into impotent submission. This is not a good thing.

We need to understand this and use every means at our disposal, starting with serious and painful international sanctions, to prevent Iran's rulers from becoming the nuclear-armed blackmailers they want to be. Unfortunately, we are hearing demands that we abandon the people of the Middle East who have stood up to Islamo-fascism because they believed us when we said we would support them.

If we retreat precipitously, the price for that betrayal will be paid first in blood and freedom by the Iranian people, the Kurds, the Afghanis, the secular Lebanese, the moderates in Pakistan and the Iraqis themselves. And America's word may never be trusted again.

Right now, the pirate Ahmadinejad is clearly more confident about the outcome of the Global War on Terror than we are. That ought to give us pause.

Read it all here.

2 "...and reformers there have been....."

Ragnar,
Please bear in mind that there is NO reforming the Islamic Regime.
It's so-called reformers are nothing more than its agents desperately trying to paint a veneer of legitimacy and/or corrigibility on the Islamic Republic with the sole purpose of stalling for time; the time that IRI needs to develop a nuclear arsenal.
Please note that while the regime is fragmented, all of its fragments share a fundamental common denominator and that is the manufacture and export of Islamic terrorism. Indeed, their so-called constitution clearly states that the primary and only objective of the regime is the establishment of an army that will subjugate the world under the banner of Islam.
You cann't reform evil.
You cann't negotiate with evil.
If it wants to talk to you, it is to deceive you or to buy time.

3 Garduneh Mehr,

Sadly I think your truthful and accurate assessment of Islam shall fall on Rusty's deaf ears. He has been brainwashed through far too much liberal education to understand or accept the truth about Islam.

And Rusty, one need not hate a wild mountain lion or rattlesnake that is trying to eat/kill you to understand that for them there is no rational or logical argument that will talk them out of trying to eat/kill you.  They are what they are and cannot be allowed free access to any downtown metropolitan area. You simply cannot keep a shark in your swimming pool and think you are safe to swim in it.
