Quote of the Day (so far):

"People who argue that we lost because we weren't true to our base, that's just wrong."
- Tom Cole, head of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Just so you understand, this is the guy at the GOP whose job it is to win House seats.

We are so fucked.

1 Yep! With people like Tom Cole at the helm, it's no wonder our country is so screwed up. What are these people smoking?!

2 Even worse its a*s-hats like this guy CURRENTLEY IN CHARGE who also have idea that Republicans lost becuase of Iraq.  That is going to be even worse than the not holding to the base part.  If they get there way not only is the Conservative values not even going to be tried to bring back but they are giong to double down there death our death by joing the Dems on the WOT.

I look at the presidential canadites and I see no one who in my opinion so far looks up to the task of presidential leadership in a time of war with a hostile Media abnd opposition party.  The WOT is a absolute insane so far success by any and all military historical comparisons on all  aspects, exept of course on the Media front.  If we don't have a president who can not just rally the people but keep them rallied and monthly weekly constantley harp into the common americans head what we face, how by historical comparison we are doing so far so good and how failure simply is not a option no matter what the sacrifise required.

It is truley a sad sad time in US history, and looking around I wonder if maybe not the final paragraph of our book called America.

3 "final paragraph of our book called America"   Unless your ready to pen those words yourself, and explain to future generations how we all threw up our hands and surrendered, I'd suggest you hit your 'reset' button, and dig in for a fight!  You have the examples of great American men who came before you. President Abe Lincoln is probably the most perfect representative of what we have to be, or become in these times. We must BE the ones who save this country! We must hang on for dear life, and preserve the work of our ancestors, for the sake of the future. America CAN DO, and has done what the rest of the world has thought to be impossible! We should continue to strive for such heights. Let lesser nations settle for crumbs as they claim 'victory'!  We know what true victory IS! We are the USA!

4 Put differently!  I'm your friend, but I ask you to consider the dignity in accepting defeat at the hands of liars, butchers, and beggars. What is dignified about living as one of the defeated? What do you leave for the future? What message? If we are to accept this as the final paragraph for the USA, then we are accepting defeat! That is what we are doing!  I'd prefer the dignity of a mass grave after a brave battle, than to live having failed to preserve what our Founding Fathers created.  We each have to decide how to spend our lives. I'm spending mine in resistance to the enemy, whoever they are. I DO understand your sadness. If you think the USA is doomed, then live to avenge it!
                                USA, all the way!

6 I'm a single issue voter - we must win the GWOT.  I think most of the republican candidates talk the proper game in this regard. I give them the benefit of the doubt on vision.  The question then is (1) who can win the general election, (2) who can get congress to follow, and (3) who can get the country to follow?

Rudy, McCain, and Fred Thompson all have a shot on all 3 points.  But for charisma and solid loyalty to conservative principles... Fred Thompson FTW. Plus, he's a federalist, meaning - unlike Rudy or McCain - he'll actually veto some of the rampant domestic spending.

He's also haggard and rough looking.... like Lincoln.

BTW, I've been a Rudy supporter for years (since 9/12), even though I'm pro-life and a gun-nut.  GWOT trumps all.  Fred's articles have gotten me to switch from Rudy to Fred.

7 One wonders...did Tom Cole actually TALK to any registered Republican voters?  Or did he get that talking point from Howard Dean?

8 ya, the party is now officially fucked. First they started spending, then they decided to begin randomly starting wars. Now, we have this joke of an immigration bill.

10 The GOP has officially lost "it" and to think Cole is from my State.  Rudy's amnesty stance on illegal immigration has always told me that he wasn't serious about our national security, imagine any country in history that while at war allows millions of untraceable people to not only enter the country but does little or nothing to stop the influx or even enforce the laws that would eject them.   This isn't just about the "hard working" Mexicans folks it's about the bad guys who can walk in virtually unimpeded through open borders in time of war.  I've never understood the claim that Rudy or McCain were strong on the GWOT for just this reason.
