Pelosi Bids to Become Queen, Republicans Shut Down House Floor

With Republicans forcing Democrats to go on record voting for tax increases through Motions to Recommit, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is threatening to change the House rules to deny Republicans the floor. From Representative Eric Cantor's website:

House Republicans are shutting down the floor, because the Democrats are threatening to change a rule and deny Republicans any opportunity to offer a motion to recommit on the "paygo" provisions of their legislation. That’s a lot of wonky talk; bottom line - the Democrats are preventing their Members from having to vote on the tax increases that they are trying to impose on the American People.

It is simply stunning that House Democrats want to change the germanenss rule on motions to recommit; this would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822.

Check back for updates. We will be updating on this showdown as it unfolds.

UPDATE: Rep. Westmoreland just moved for a recorded quorum call, then a motion that the committee will rise. Expect to see more of these…

1 So when are we going to get to the real 800lb. gorilla in the room and discuss paygo for the war in Iraq.  Some piddly tax raise now isn't gonna mean squat when the bill for this fiasco comes due in ten years.
Both sides are gonna have to wake up and smell the coffee and quit crying over the small bullshit.

5 IMPEACH PELOSI!

I'm serious.  She has knowingly promoted convicted felons and other people who lack the skills or integrity to merit their positions.

She has conducted foreign policy from the House, ignoring the pre-emince of the Executive in this domain.  She has ignored requests from the president to cease and desist in this behavior.

She is interfering with the Executive branch in the conduct of war.  She has done this by interfering with funding for a war she originally endorsed, and insisting on micromanaging war activities over which she has no jurisdiction.

The Executive branch is empowered to conduct war as necessary, and as determined by the commander in chief.  She is interfering with the Executive's constitutional right and obligation to do so.

Interfering with the constitution should be grounds for impeachment.

6 You're all dreaming if you think things are going to turn around now,
because this is a country full of idiots, and the dhimmicraps will only
gain more power because they've learned how to manipulate the vast,
unwashed masses. Time for REVOLUTION!

7 That's why the first thing the Fathers did after they drafted the Constitution was to tack the Bill of Rights onto it. The Constitution formed a new body politic from all that they had just won in a bloody revolution from an oppressive oligarchy. The first Ten Amendments were written to ensure that future generations of Americans would have the opportunity to do so again, if need be.

To quote Jefferson from some of his letters to Madison:
“I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.... It is a medecine [sic] necessary for the sound health of government.”
“I own I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive.... Calculate that one rebellion [Shay's rebellion, 1786] in 13 states in the course of 11 years, is but one for each state in a century and a half. No country should be so long without one.”

How long has it been since our last one?

8   Uh, I don't know what constitution you're reading but I'm keen on seeing the section about impeaching members of congress.  Perhaps you're not the constitutional scholar you thought you were.

9 Yeah, they're gonna raise taxes $400 billion.  That's about $1300 for every man woman and child in the country.  Boy, that's gonna hurt next year eh?
