Noonan and Napolitano Hammer Bush

Audio at Johnny Dollar's Place.

Peggy Noonan:

[Conservatives] would normally look at the Bush Administration, they would've looked at it five years ago and said "This is TERRIBLE!"

But one huge and important and key thing happened.

It was 9-11.

And conservatives and Republicans and Democrats and moderates were so eager to give the President as much room as he needed, as many breaks as possible, to understand everything that he did, but they supported him in a way that, at the end of the day, I can't help but believe that the White House took advantage of, well-meaning people trying to back their President, trying to be really good with him, really supportive of him, and trying to show the world: "Hey, America's here, and we're backing our guy."...

I can't help but think that those good and decent impulses on the part of regular, on the ground people were somewhat taken advantage of while these people went off on their own ideological...tour.

1 Yeah well join the club Peggy.  Better late than never I suppose....

Here's another recent convert (Andrew Sullivan) on this recent effort by Republicans to distance themselves from Bush:

The Right's Repudiation of Bush

Greenwald is having none of it:

The media's function is not merely to pass on self-serving conservative propaganda but to report actual historical fact, to point out when such propaganda deviates from objective truth. The "conservative movement" now desperately trying to depict Bush as an anti-conservative vigorously argued the exact opposite for the last six years. No account of the conservative movement's chicanery can be remotely accurate without prominently highlighting that fact. George Bush is tied irrevocably around the neck of the right-wing movement because they tied themselves to him when they thought doing so would be politically beneficial.

What about those of us who complained about spending in 2002? Who backed Kerry in 2004 because of Bush's unconservative record? Who opposed torture as soon as the evidence emerged? Who dissented from the FMA and Schiavo? Who opposed compassionate conservatism from the start? Who wrote books explaining how Bush was not a conservative? I guess there weren't many of us in public. Give Bruce Bartlett some props. But our existence is also part of the objective truth of the past six years.

2 The money quote from Peggy: supporters of Bush "don't know Bush anymore.  They thought they knew him, now they think "I don't know this guy"."

3 Sometimes a republican falls. But it's always forward.

4 In the case of Scooter Libby,  hopefully the fall happens in the Levinworth showers.  :-)

Fitzgerald, Judge Walton and Ambassador Wilson - take a bow gentlemen.

5 file under: Life ain't fair....

and i accept that,  Scotter Libby got time for not remembering which week he heard something a year before while DemoCraps can't remember which week they buried dead bodies last year but they do get a complete pass and are never tried for their murders.

6 Dittos:

As for  President Bush:   because of the WOT,   I cut Our President just about as much slack as I could also. ...

I overlooked ...   Harriet Meyers,   Spending like my ex-wife,  Increasing the number of Federal entitlements, Using our folks in Iraq as Iraqi  Policemen instead  of American Warriors at War,  Nation building etc.    BUT the Last Straw is this latest corruption of our Citizen Status and the dis-Honor to every American who ever served and was willing to shed blood for our Flag.  Yes the wholesale granting of citizen status to illegal immigrants breaks the sacred bond between We The People and the United States.

7 Libby got time because he willfully obstructed a grand jury investigation and purgered himself in doing so.  He is the designated fall guy and the man he is protecting is Cheney.  The crime is intentionally outing an operative CIA agent - one who happened to be working on the Iran nuke file.

And last night, almost every Republican candidate defended an indicted man and belittled the treason he performed.  This is what the "law and order" Republican party has become.  Contrast that with the immediate and swift isolation that the Democratic leadership gave Cunningham - and you can begin to see the choice being offered voters.

I ain't no Democrat, but I sure as hell cannot support the den of thieves and con artists that the Republican party has become (except Ron Paul that is).

Who opposed torture as soon as the evidence emerged?

What torture? Show me some evidence or STFU!

The crime is intentionally outing an operative CIA agent - one who happened to be working on the Iran nuke file.

Really show me in the indictment or the conviction where it says that. Or could it be GASP! You are a lieing sack of sock puppet and whackjob Ron Paul supporting Sh$t who blew their credibility when they started qouting Glenn the sock boy? Or how about when you state you support that fool tin foil hat wearing imbecile Ron Paul. Take it back to KOS we ain't buying any of your crazy here today. 9 Oldcrow,

Despite his political leanings, I am sure Kerry (who actually fought in a war) would have been an improvement over the Bush the deserter.

And as for Libby - they don't hand out sentences like that for nothing.  The convicted felon known as Libby is the traitor - in case it was not clear to you.
