Stevens (R-AK)EVERY SINGLE ONE of these individuals needs to face a solid primary challenger this next Spring.
Dominici (R-NM)
Collins (R-ME)
Coleman (R-MN)
Craig (R-ID)
McConnell (R-KY)
Hagel (R-NE)
Graham (R-SC)
Warner (R-VA)
It needs to be made clear to the party apparatus in each of the above states that these men are not likely to be returned to office in November 2008. Many of the GOP faithful will not be voting for these guys under any circumstances in the general. In fact, I have no doubt that at least some conservatives will be working for the opposition if these guys make it back to the general election. The party operatives in these senators' states need to start hearing this message right now. They need to start to understand that returning any of these men to the general ballot will equal a loss in November. If the party hopes to keep these seats in Republican hands, they would be well-advised to cut these men loose.

I can't speak for the other 8, but I can tell you we're working on solid opposition here in SC against Lindsey Grahamnesty. Just a matter of time, since his poll numbers have dropped to the low 30s.
He has a ton of money to spend on lipstick, but amnesty will still hang about his neck like a millstone.

There are rumours that Warner is retiring and that Congressman Tom Davis will run for the seat, I notified Warner's office yesterday that just because he no longer wants to be Senator that it would not be in keeping with the Republican Party to allow the American public to suffer when he is gone and that I personally would hold Tom Davis responsible if he Warner votes for this bill. Congressman Tom Davis's office said he is against this legislation and I suggested to them perhaps they need to have a conversation with Senator Warners office.

Out of that list of nine 4, Stevens, Collins, Warner and Hagel have always easily defeated their Democrat opponents. The Democrats came within inches of losing Lieberman to the Republicans and that would of cost them control of the Senate. In the other 5 races the Democrats should have a fair chance of winning. Forcing out your best candidates may not be the best way to hold seats. And although the much touted congressional approval ratings are at historic lows we must remember that the individual approval ratings of members of Congress do not show the same ratings. Americans LIKE their own members of Congress, we just hate the ones that were elected by other states (in general). Of course the overriding issue in 2008 will be Iraq.
