New Chancellor: Germany Will Not Negotiate with Terrorists

The first female Chancellor in German history has come out shooting. In a 180 degree turnaround from her predecessor, the first words out of Angela Merkel's mouth to the newly constituted parliament:

"This government, this parliament will not let itself be blackmailed," Merkel said. "It (terrorism) is directed at everything that is important to us, at the core of our civilization. It is directed against our entire value system."
Merkel's statement was directed toward terrorists who have threatened to murder German archaeologist Susanne Osthoff. The terrorists have threatened to murder Osthoff if Germany does not stop cooperating with the U.N. sanctioned Iraqi governemnt.

Can some one please tell me how any one in the MSM--in even the most conservative of publications--can call a group or an individual threatenting to murder a hostage a 'militant'?

1 The first female Chancellor has a bigger pair of stones than Schroeder.

It's interesting to read that article. They can't just report on Merkel's speech about not giving into the "militants".
They have to devote a couple of paragraphs about rumors of CIA activity in Eastern Europe. It seems they try to justify the actions of terrorists in this way.

2 Just like Maggie Thatcher's set of cajones.

3 Brad, how's it going, man? Good to see you're alive! Ha! Hope everything is going great.

With the new Chancellor in Germany and the fall of the Liberal Party in Canada, perhaps, just perhaps, maybe we are turning the corner in Europe and Canada. Well, I can hope, can't I?

4 It is terrific that a European leader has finally, in diplomatic terms at least, told the terrorists to go stuff themselves. Perhaps another reason they're not going to negotiate with terrorists is because they just don't have the money to do so. The German economy has been in the tank lately and after all the previous negotiations, the price for safe release can't be cheap.

5 Given that the terrorists and socialists (natural allies) outnumber pro-Westerners in Germany, I'd say it won't be long until she's honored with an assassination attempt.

8 You also claim to like a guy with balls, don't you Barney. Or have you changed, uh, spots?

9 I think Barney meant a "lady" with real balls (if you get my drift).

10 The recent riots in france showed us the french are in turmoil (some would argue, they always were), their politicians lack the back muscle to end this dangerous flirtation with radical islam and cheap anti americanism.

The dutch, all caught up in the heat of appeasement and multi culturalism (they allowed radical islam all the freedoms they wanted and now find they have little in their own country), are now employing security to protect anyone who dares to say anything that could be construed as anti Islam. The spanish sided with socialists and will regret this in time, the germans now have a loose coalition that will agree on nothing, the canadians are next.

What was so gleefully thrown away will take long and hard to get back.

11 Joe, doing OK thanks.

I don't want to be too optimistic, but it seems we actually have another ally in Western Europe.

Canada:
God, what a mixed bag of everything. I think the Western Provinces would succeed and Join the US (Vancouver Excluded) if given the chance.
The rest of Canada is very anti US and dominated by the Toronto libs.
I sometimes watch the CBC television network on weekends. The Anti US bias makes me turn it off after a few minutes. If you have cable and watch the CBC (I guess this is their version of NBC), just watch and listen. You would think no one had guaranteed their borders for the last 60 years.

I like the Cannucks who side with us, the others; I have no use for.

12 Maybe she will use GSG-9 or an equivalent special forces unit to rescue this hostage
