Patrick, wow, that guy had WAAAAY too much time on his hands. I like both Star Wars and Star Trek. This guy sounds like one of those rabid Trek fans who wears Spock ears 24/7 and tries to kill you the instant he finds out you watched even 5 seconds of Wars.
I especially loved this: "Anyway, when it comes to portraying human destiny, where would you rather live, assuming you'll be a normal citizen and no demigod? In Roddenberry's Federation? Or Lucas' Empire?"
Has he never seen Star Trek?! Personally I'd choose neither. Everyone who's not one of the central 5-20 main crewmembers out of crews of 200+ die in 5 minutes in Trek; the fact that it's a magnetic cloud space anomaly or a giant lizardman killing everyone and not a maniac who's 1/2 powered armor killing people with his mind ultimately makes little difference. Dead is dead.

Oh so true. The empire was running quite well, till that uppity little princess and the fascist jedi order decided to tell everyone how to run things. David Brin had it right:
I followed the links and Brin had some good points, but his humanistic roots were showing through. There are some deep fallacies and I think his interpretation of literary history is a bit two-dimensional.

Well, if I had to guess, I'd say the Death Star might not have the power to destroy a gas giant hundreds of times the size of the moon orbiting it.
Of course, I could be wrong.
