Paltrow Opens Mouth, Words Fall Out

Here's an example of an uninformed celebrity, Gwyneth Paltrow, making public comments regarding the U.S. from a closed-minded, egocentric perspective.

From Breitbart.com:

"I love the English lifestyle, it's not as capitalistic as America. People don't talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner," she told "NS," the weekend magazine supplement of daily Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias on Saturday.

"I like living here because I don't fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans," the 34-year-old added.

She added that she loves living in London because Madonna is her neighbor. "She's like an older sister" who gives her "good advice."

But, oops! In another report, Paltrow now denies she said anything anti-American and blames the quotes on poor Spanish language skills she demonstrated during a press conference.

So, who does one believe? As I recall, Paltrow has a history of being quite the liberal elitist. Therefore, I'll believe she did diss the U.S. After all, it is the trendy liberal thing to do.

I obviously never entered her mind that the difference is more likely a change in circle of friends and less likely a difference in country.  Yeah, she probably took a dump on the US.

2 From Malkin:

...she was quoted saying almost the exact same things in an interview with the Guardian eleven months ago:

http://arts.guardian.co.uk/filmandmusic/story/0,,1695252,00.html

    "I love the
English way, which is not as capitalistic as it is in America. People
don't talk about work and money; they talk about interesting things at
dinner parties. I like living here because I don't tap into the bad
side of American psychology, which is 'I'm not achieving enough, I'm
not making enough, I'm not at the top of the pile.' It's just kind of
like, I am."

So, no, I don't buy it either.  Seems her Spanish is pretty good.

3 Well I guess she is banking on the majority of americans being too stupid. Personally I give a rat's ass what any celebrity thinks. Aside from taking up space they really don't do much of anything.

4 I lived in London and  she's right - dinner table conversations and parties were fun there.  And they are probably extra fun when you are Ms. Paltrow - beautiful, American, rich, young.  But this doesn't mean the English are not as materialistic as Americans. The English are not Amish.

Has she not noticed the flood of English going to Florida to buy cheap property?   to New York, Los Angeles etc. - to buy cheap goods ? She is too stupid to even realize her own privileged position in life.

She probably thinks that if  peasants have no bread they should just eat cake.

5 Paltrow is right. Consider her social circle in the US: liberal Hollywood celebrities. Of course the British are "much more intelligent and civilized" than these bozos. Most of the world's population is more intelligent than the typical Left Coaster.

6 There sure are a lot of celebrity melt downs lately, Jessica Simpson, Rip torn, Mel Gibson and Michael Richards.
maybe folks will realize these elite snobs are really just dumb and dismiss everything said not related to themselves and their particular form of entertainment.

7 I think you guys are being oversensitive.  Upper-class people in America are obsessed with money and tend to talk about it a lot.  In addition, English tend to be raised in a manner more conducive to "charm."

Americans are uncivilized, mostly because Civilized now means passifistic and cowardly.  We are also less intelligent, because we don't see the "obvious truths" that certain people see.

The entire thing is a tempest in a teakettle.  This is nowhere near Mel, Alec Baldwin, or even Michael Moore quality meltdown.  Honestly, her perspective isn't even insulting because she made it clear she was talking about "the Bad Side" of American psychology.  I know a lot of rich people who are exactly the way she describes them.  She's not describing the average American, who is much more intelligent and civilized than the average "old money" or "noveau riche" fop.

8 I know what she means, and I agree to a point.  But her mistake is comparing London to America.   If she instead compared London to Washington DC she'd find dinner conversations are just as stimulating in DC, and probably New York too.  I've also had plenty of experience in rural Europe and trust me, they aren't that stimulating (nor in rural America for that matter).

9 I wonder how much this anti-capitalist will make on her next movie?  If she gets paid a percentage of the gate, it'll be at least $8 less than .. oh wait, I stopped seeing her movies after her first anti-American tirade.  Of course, I wasn't exactly camping out overnight for tickets to go on sale before that in the first place.  The last thing I saw of her's was 'Shallow Hal' and that was before I knew what an idiot she was.

10 I'd be interested to know exactly what "interesting" things she thinks
are so much more superior than dinner converstion in the US.
Please.  What one likes to talk about and what they don't is a
matter of taste and what is important to the individual.  For this
twit to claim that there is some "bad" psychology here that she so
needs to escape is to deny that there is "bad" psychology everywhere.

If her circle of friends didn't consist of Hollywood leftists and her
husband's band friends, she might have found far more interesting
dinner guests.  Her father is a director and her mother is Blythe
Danner so she was born with the proverbial silver spoon in her
mouth.  Maybe she's just raging against the establishment she was
born into.  But to project her disappointments with her own caste
onto the US as a whole in  interviews is childish and ignorant.

English snob:  "I declare Americans are so boorish."

Paltrow:  "Oh my, you're so interesting!" [titter titter]

11 Gwyneth Paltrow got caught. That is the only difference with her and other American celebrities that do interviews in foreign countries (bad will ambasadors) bad mouthing the people of the USA. They try to play to a foreign audience that they are different than us, more worldly sophisticated. Would she have said this on a network television program in the United States? I think not. That is the thing that ticks me off. Say it to my face, not behind my back.

12 British students score lower on standardized tests than American students do, and the cost of living there is far higher than it is in capitalistic America.

Maybe Gwyneth can discus those "interesting things" at her next dinner party. I'm sure everybody is tired of talking about why she's flakey enough to name her kid "Apple," and why a skank like her gets to be a movie star.

Gwyneth Paltrow is butt-ugly, inside and out. She should audition for a position in the Dixie Chicks.

13 The beautiful irony is that this Hollywood whore will soon have to flee
Britainistan because muslims, with their rigid sense of morality, won't
put up with a hedonistic Jewess like her running around uncovered,
committing all natures of sin. Lefturds will most assuredly get what
they deserve sooner or later.
