Man Divorces Wife While Sleeping

(West Bengal, India) Using all my imagination, I couldn't come up with this scenario.

A Muslim couple in India have been told by local Islamic leaders that they must separate after the husband "divorced" his wife in his sleep.
The Press Trust of India said in a report published on Monday that Sohela Ansari had told friends that her husband Aftab had uttered the word "talaq" or divorce, three times in his sleep.

When local Islamic leaders heard about the incident, they said Aftab's words constituted a divorce under an Islamic procedure known as "triple talaq."
The couple, married for 11 years with three children, were told that they had to split.

The religious leaders ruled that if the couple wanted to remarry they would have to wait at least 100 days. Sohela would also have to marry another man, spend at least a night with him and be divorced by him.

So, in a nutshell, Aftab accidentally divorces his wife because he talks in his sleep, OR she made it up to get rid of him. Either way, I'm bewildered by the screwiness of the religion of peace.

5 So if they want to remarry, she first has to marry and be divorced by some other guy. I guess that's a convenient "c'mon dude, share the weatlth" rule that's been added on.

7 I guess it really is a matter of what rules one wants to apply. It appears that the Shia forbid it and the Sunni's say it's okey dokey. Some Sunnis even go so far as to say that you have to say it at different times, not all at once. Oh, and here's the big one; you're not allowed to do it while the wife is menstruating. WTF? Most countries have banned it, but India still allows it and much like fatwas you just go by whatever rule your Imam applies.

Sonds like the Democratic Party.

9 This is insane. You should publish and read the whole article from aljazeera.net before misleading others. . Here is a copy from the article that no Muslim disagrees with.

Maybe you should learn to read. Clearly, Islamic scholars differ. It's so nice when Muslims drop by to inform us of what 'real' Islam is as opposed to Islam as it is practiced by others. How do we know which Islam is the 'real' Islam?

Anyway, I had a dream last night. First, I converted to Islam. Then, I became a Hindu. Then, I pissed on the Koran and burned it. Am I eligible for the death penalty or what?

13 Anyone here old enough to remember way back in the old days of life in the United Syayes when one would have to move to Nevada for one month to establish residency to get a divorce ? Or when Catholics just did not get a divorce ? In my suburban grade school there were always one or 2 kids in each class that came from what were then called "broken homes"

It finally sank in. Women cannot get divorces, but the courts will take their word for it that their husbands talk in their sleep, and divorced them.
