A Fun Independence Day Quiz

Name the President who gave this stirring 4th of July speech:

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

1 I think that is the speech from the US president in the movie "Independence Day". I am too lazy to actually look up the name of the character on the internet.

3 President Tom Whitmore, Gulf War fighter pilot. Hmm, he was attacked in the movie by pundits who said leadership in combat does not make him qualified for leadership in politics...

I'm not American, but hearing that speech made me tear up.

4 Well, shit, that ended early. Thanks alot, Matthew.

phhbbbbbbbbbt

It is inspiring isn't it?

The ironic thing is, it's relevant. We are fighting for our right to live, and to exist. Just not from e.t. invasion, but from Islamofascism.

6 That's my husband's favorite movie. I've had to sit through it umpty billion times. Judd Hirsch should have won an award for his role.

8 If you watch the extended version of the DVD, Jeff Goldblum explains that all the streaming funkiness you see in the background of every alien computer screenshot is their code, and that he was able to break it. By doing that, he was able to write a virus for it.

The extended version also adds a couple of subplots. Well worth watching. I will be doing so once I'm finished with "The Patriot."
