1 That does look like a pretty f'n badass movie.

2 I agree, and my butt's going in a movie seat on opening weekend. (See the Quicktime trailer for the uber-high quality glory: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/)

As purely an aside, am I the only one who sees some major homoeroticism all over the trailer? I have a feeling all the boys from the warehouse district are going to come out in droves for this film.

3 "Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?"

"Joey, did you ever hang around a gymnasium?"

"Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?"

7 Read "Gates of Fire", a novel about this battle, several years ago. Spartans rule. Hope the movie is more than music video imagery. It seems promising.

10 Nice, but the apple.com/trailers has a much higher res version. The movie looks very awesome, and I cant wait to get this miserable year for the box office behind us.

Seems like a gay thing. I'm feeling it. I'm with you, boy.

13 Yah wait untill you conservatives find out that many of those Bad Ass spartans were gay, that will harsh your mellow.

Posted by: Wormpaste at October 10, 2006 01:08 AM (rtnQC)

14 Don't bet on it wormputz. Most of us don't give a hoot what some one does in the privacy of their bedroom, we just don't want it rammed into our face. And we feel the same way about heterosexuals who can't keep their pants up & zipped in public.

You, on the other hand, may have a real problem with the Spartans. They  maintained a decidely militaristic culture, held personal weakness in contempt, honored valor, sacrifice and many other supposed outmoded values that conservatives hold dear.

15 More racist bullshit from the racist all seeing idiot. Notice notice they threw the only black guy in the pit. Friggin racist nazi, bigot.

16 I'll be in the theatre for this movie.

17 Anyone remember the old Hollywood version of this movie?

18 The Battle of Thermopylae was one of the most heroic battles EVER fought, hell with a little bit more training, they may even have made good MARINES !!!

19 Being a fan of Frank Miller's work, I have no doubt this film will be amazing. And damn that trailor does makes me even more excited to see it.

I'm always leary when certain comic books go to film, but this looks like it will do it justice.

20 I notice you are trying to move in on HotAir's turf with movie trailers and such, but you have no hope of success until you get Bethany on your site.

21 I can't wait to see how folks on the left and CAIR try to claim that this movie is an example "anti-muslim hate speech."  "Xerxes was just trying to travel a little with his army and them those hateful, racist Spartans had to start killing them!"  Nevermind that this is HISTORY.  History adapted into a graphic novel by Frank Miller, I know ;p   But still history.  Several hundred spartans and several hundred Thespians stood up against a Persian army of at least 250,000.  No doubt this will be played as an example of anti-muslim sentiments.

22 I will be there. "Then we will fight in the shade."

I like that the men were hot, being a chick and all, and not gay.

23 Most cultures that were predominatly warrior/military oriented had a culture of homosexuality- not so much that the guys didn't like women, but rather it was accepted that you would get some of your sexual urges out with other guys when in combat.  You might be married with 3 kids, but when you were out to war, you got it on with other guys.  In Sparta is was more formalized:
"pederasty,
claimed by some ancient historians to have been of a chaste nature, was
practised whereby older warriors would engage a youth in a long-lasting
love relationship with a pedagogic purpose. The boy was expected to
request the relationship, which was considered important in passing on
knowledge and in maintaining loyalty on the battlefield – when
sacrificing to a god before battle, the Spartans sacrificed to the god
of love, Eros."

I gotta be honest- when they are driving a spear through some Persian invader- do you really care where they were last night?

24 This is the most historically relevant movie of the year, and possibly
of our age, because it was at Thermopylae where just a handful of men
stood against an army of a million and saved the West from becoming
just another province in a vast empire of slaves. They gave their
lives, but kept their honor, and we are free because of them, and they
are immortal as long as the West lives. Thus it always was and always
shall be; young men die so that their people may live, and the cowards
who betray them shall only be remembered with shame and loathing.
Remember that greg, you piece of shit.

25 Spartans? Faggots always attempt to show others as faggots. Stupid attempt to make their behavior acceptable. Some history is written by faggots.
