1 LEFTIST MSM GETTING DESPERATE
The fundamental problem with the US left is that all movements are driven by two cognitions: the Vision and the Grievance.  The Vision is a future ideal scenario (for US conservatives, this is full democracy, an unimpeded economy, and opportunity for all; for Islamists, it is the society as it was with Mohammed).  The Grievance is a present-time, frustrating impediment to The Vision (For US conservatives, this might be the Georgian 17 yr old boy and 15 yr old girl who enjoyed oral sex, but he got 10 yrs. For Islamists, it might be the recent Dubai Film festival, with Muslim women wearing beautiful, revealing dresses).  This Vision-Grievance template works for every movement from neo-nazis to boy scouts.  The catastrophe for the US left has been the death of their Vision, the socialist paradise.  They still have many grievances (Big Oil, economic inequities, inadequate welfare, etc), but without the Vision, they are defensive and hostile.  The MSM, the Cindy Sheehans, John Kerrys, etc., are angry because their life-long Vision is dead.  Socialism failed, wherever it was implemented.  The moral turpitude, the wobbly high-grounding, the aimless reasoning, the constant whining, betray the permanent lack of direction, the frustrated malaise of a dying political philosophy.

2 I question the timing. I question their methodology. Hell I question just about everything about this article.

And while you're at it throw some sucicides in there for the Americans so it doesn't look like the Iraqi's are the only ones taking their own lives.
 
As the 30%hangers-on continue to drink the koolaid.

4 How bout an AP articles about how the Left's favorite socialist wonderland, Sweden, has some of the highest suicide rates in the world.

5 Same question popped into my mind..."What is the US national rate for men 18-30?" Well, it turns out that it is actually higher here (about 24 per 100,000). I guess the MSM didn't mention the fact that the suicide rate for the troops in 2004 was less than half the national rate.

DemocracyRules: YES! Your comment really fits reality. Remember, our Founding Fathers saw slavery as a grievance issue as well, but it took 80 years before it really atarted to get sorted out. The Democratic South were in denial at the time, and kept hanging on to their slavery driven utopia. they didn't want to accept the changes.

Gleep; Suicide is a sad thing, and we all care about that sort of thing. It is true that people in the military are a cut above, and handle stress way better on average, than those who don't serve their country. It is also true that an increase in soldier suicides is not a good sign, but it wasn't the main point here.

The sources that get quoted by people like civilbehavior, are part of the problem. our service men are under more stress from crap like that, than from the actual mission.

Military regs prevent my sources locally from making a public political statement, but I have conducted some off the record interviews. I am told over and over again, how the media twists the reality of Iraq, and how the leftist leadership undermines the mission. Because I won't name names you can call me a liar if you like, and I'll take that hit, to protect the confidence I have with those I spoke to.

All I'm saying is that Bluto, is absolutely correct in pointing out MSM bias, and it's corrosive effect.

And HEY! What's so bad about us? You seem to like hanging around here plenty, so your standing a little close to be tossing around grenades. Jesusland Carlos has a point about the lefty snicker at the word 'patriotism', and that bothers me a lot.

In JC-Land, one cannot be an American -- at least a "true" American -- unless he, she or it believes in the concept of unquestioned American primacy in all matters, at all times. Pardon me, but now who’s being arrogant?

I can't vouch for the snooty people you used to hang out with and sorry they made you feel intellectually little, but I personally have had many an eye-rolling from conservatives at the mere mention of the possibility that maybe the rest of the world has opinions, thoughts, traditions, beliefs and values that have nothing to do with the way we live here — and they like it that way. That's not relativism, it's reality.

In a related note, you're right about one thing JC, I don't like how concepts such as patriotism and loyalty have been twisted to meet private and very questionable agendas. But one thing is certain ... it has very, very, very little to do with Americanism.

if you actually read what I wrote you see that, on the contrary, the snooty Liberals I used to hang out with made me feel intellectually superior just like them-- because I was one of them. 

Son, I've lived on 3 continents and travelled on four.  You can't even begin to conceive of a life such as the one I've lived.  And in all my years overseas I never met anybody that didn't think their own country and traditions weren't the best.  I know this because I've experienced patriotism around the fucking globe-- unlike you who only parrott what you're told.   For example, just ask any wetback Mexican to compare his country with the U.S. and you'll be surprised to hear how much better their country is than ours!  They love with a passion the very country they just fled from.  Amazing.     In other words, folks around the world are patriots.  And good for them, too!  Everybody should be a cheerleader for their country because it makes a country strong.  It's good for a country.   It's the best antidote against civilizational decline.  Ask any foreigner to compare the two countries, you'll find everybody is a patriot for their own country.

But not you Leftists!  You're way too smart for that.  Suddenly I come back to America for college and I'm taught by Liberals that we're the only ones on the planet not allowed to be patriots.  Esqueeze me?  Why the fuck not?  It never occurred to me to ask them why everybody on the planet is allowed to be patriotic, but not us.   Well, today I know better.  I know that Liberals have sold us a bill of goods that being "patriotic" is some kind of a sin because white folks are guilty of crimes against humanity or some crap like that.  It's white guilt, nothing more.  It's a cultural self-loathing that has infected the West and is perpetuated by Liberalism.    It's going to be the death of Western civilization.
