Male Teacher, 40, Weds Female Student, 16

(Brunswick, North Carolina) On Monday of this week, a Brunswick couple, Mr. and Mrs. Hager, reluctantly gave permission for their 16-year-old daughter, Windy, to get married.

Later in the day, 40-year-old science teacher and track coach at South Brunswick High School, Brenton Scott Wuchae, married Windy Hager, South Brunswick student and track team member.

On Tuesday, the Brunswick County School Board approved the resignation of Brenton Wuchae, one week after it had been submitted. Following a closed-door meeting, Superintendent Katie McGee said, "I am shocked and disheartened by what transpired."

Congratulations to the happy couple (pic).

1 What kind of a sick, degenerate, pervert...calls their kid 'Windy'?

'Dear - I'm so excited about our having a baby together! Aren't you?'
'Meh...'
'What shall we call her if she's a girl?'
'Uh...well, it's pretty gusty outside - hows about Windy?'
'Oh, you do love me!'
'Fetch me some juice...'

4 I thought I was a cradle robber when I married a 20 yr old when I was 34. That's what happens when you don't graduate until you are 34.

5 Shotgun involved?

6 Paul Dracos,

Wasn't illegal now was it. For my tastes 16 is a little young for a 40 year old, but unfortunately for you it's a long shot from being historically or culturally unusual. Calling it pedophilia because it doesn't seem right to you just plain doesn't make it so.

Am I advocating  pedophilia, hell no but at 16 she is no longer a child. Probably too emotionally immature for marriage, but than again most Americans are still too emotionally immature for marriage at 30 hence our 50% divorce rate.

In the United State the legal age of consent varies from 14 with parental consent to 18.  In North Carolina the legal age of consent is 16 without parental consent. Around the world the age of consent varies from 12 to 21.

In Japan the legal age of consent is 13, in Mexico its 12 for men and 18 for women. In Madagascar it's 21. So I guess what you are saying is that in all those places where the legal age of consent is under what 18? or do you prefer Madagascar's 21? that these places are sponsoring legalized pedophilia?

If that is the case you are making than I suggest that it is you who has the serious issues not society as a whole. Pedophilia by definition is the desire, fantasy or act of engaging in sexual relations with another individual who is medically determined to be prepubescent.

At 16 Windy Hagar fails to meet that criteria in any way shape or form. In fact by the standards of  North Carolina ( not to mention the standards of a very significant portion of the entire planet) she doesn't even fit the criteria for statutory rape (the act of engaging in sexual relations with a legal minor).

So if you want to express your moral outrage at Brenton Scott Wuchae's decision to marry a young woman of the tender age of 16 fine, feel free to do so. But you are going to need to find another pretext to do so because your assertion of legalized pedophilia just doesn't have any legal or moral high ground to stand on nor for that matter does it have any historical or cultural bases.

7 WTF ? North Carolina...again...hmmm?
Well , I did hear that Duke University may be interested in Mr Wuchae as a coach there, or possibly as a D.A. in Durham, N.C.. Did the parents of the 16 year old vote for Nifong ?

8 I suppose Jerry Lee Lewis is in total approval mode right now, even if the bride is somewhat old by his standards.  I hear the newly married couple are planning to move to Utah.  Personally, I am waiting for a gay marriage of similar age variance to take place in Mass.  We've already had our art film of horse lovers coming out of Washington state.  Diversity is the name of this game, perhaps with our good 'ole buddy Rodney King singing softly in the background:  "Can't we all just get along!"  Maybe MTV will do a reality show based on clitorectomies of young muslim girls from around the world; can't wait to watch the smiling faces of all those proud daddies and crying mommies.

Compassionate conservatism gets me through the day; how about you?

9 Did you leave out the part in the story where it was revealed that the two were cousins and brother and sister?

11 When I was 15-18 I was banging as many 16 yr olds as I could. What the dif? If any of you weren't. You're faggots.

12 HOT chick. I'm 19 by the way so don't call me a pedophile.

13

Yeah, it's legal in the state so it really doesn't matter. It's not like the girl is 6. They are old enough to do what they want. It's their lives.

14 13 is the age of consent in Japan? Are you serial?

Posted by: George Ramos at June 22, 2007 03:54 PM (TmLg9)

15

I also have a 16 year old daughter. I'm curious about the parents of this gal. I might handle this a little differently  if I were in this spot...Let's see,
After walking down the aisle, just before giving the hand of my daughter away to this .........freak,  I would yell, "YA RIGHT", then take my son's 30/19 Easton Stealth Composite and hit both his 40 year old nuts over towards the groom's side. Balls just jump off the 08 Stealth, the bat really does have more pop than anything Demarini carries.

Then I would take my daughter home.

America is pretty much doriangrey land now. Our Senate,Congress and most State legislatures reflect this. So we are all pretty screwed.

16 As I have said before, 'legal' age is arbitrary after a certain point, and throughout history real maturity has been determined differently, by different cultures. By my own standard, some of those societies have been 'sick'. I think it is wrong for Japan to set such an arbitrarily low age for consent.  Obviously what Muhammed did with his 9 year old bride was unacceptable. Ancient Rome recognized adulthood during the mid-teens (14+) and they backed that up with a culture that taught the expectations of Roman citizenship. I say that we need to restore the concept of "Rites of Passage".  Thats where a person proves they are ready to be called an adult, and they earn the status by thier own merits.

17 Also, I saw nothing in the connecting articles that established any foul play was involved in the decision of these two to get married.  It isn't so unlikely that mutual admiration and respect could have blossomed into much deeper feelings. Also, just because so many people are selfish, and reckless doesn't mean that this couple was. I don't know if they crossed any physical lines, and it looks to me like nobody could prove they did. He gave up his career for this. You know he won't get hired for a similar job, coaching, teaching, or whatever, ever again.  I just think we need to let them pursue thier happiness, which they seem to be doing legally. If they are good, considerate, compassionate people, they will have a fine marriage. If not, we will read about them in the paper again someday, when it becomes someones pet issue again.  I really do wish them the best of luck.                USA, al the way!

18 Last word. My wife was 19 when we started dating. I was 12 years older, and her Mom flipped out. When we told them we wanted to get married it was months after we had made up our mind, but we were trying to pad out her parents reactions by giving them time to not hate me so much. Now her parents and I get along fine, and this weekend is our 13th Wedding Anniversery.  Oh yeah, I drew a lot of smart assed comments from co-workers and others. I'd do it all over again.  Sometimes people fall in love, and it isn't up to anyone else to judge.                    USA, all the way!

19 "Wuchae and his new bride were at home Tuesday, resting on his living room floor watching TV. He declined to comment."

Just like my house,
She  gets to watch "That's so Raven" on the Disney Channel if her homework is done.

20 Michael: Gotcha beat. I married a 20 yr old beauty when I was 34. Many in her family said it would never work. 32 yrs ago. And by the way. The nay sayers all are divorced.

21 Most said she was too mature for me. Still is.

22 Brad, treasure what you have. Kids today are often way past where we were in our day, and hardened by it.

23 I dated a gal 2 yrs younger than me in high school.  We eventually broke up and went our separate ways.  Found out decades later that during her senior year in high school that she was banging one of her teachers/track couch.  She married a GI, had a couple kids with him, then divorced him.  She then drags her butt back to the teacher/couch and marries him.  She forces him to resign his teaching job and sends him into construction.   He begins drinking, gambling, etc and she divorces him after 10-15 yrs of being married.  I suspect that she made the advances on him, not the other way around.  Here's looking at ya Sandy.
