Mainstream Media Still Supressing News of Vets' Petition

The Appeal for Courage, organized by a Navy vet who served in Baghdad has collected over 3,000 signatures of active duty personnel since February, 2007:

As an American currently serving my nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to fully support our mission in Iraq and halt any calls for retreat. I also respectfully urge my political leaders to actively oppose media efforts which embolden my enemy while demoralizing American support at home. The War in Iraq is a necessary and just effort to bring freedom to the Middle East and protect America from further attack.
There are 23 entries in the Google "news" search category, most of them from conservative blogs questioning the lack of MSM coverage.

The Appeal for Redress, organized by a Navy vet who served aboard a ship off the coast of Iraq, has collected fewer than 2,000 signatures of active duty personnel, though it has been trying to gather them for much longer than the Appeal for Courage - since October, 2006. They do however, boast 98 entries in Google's "news" category, including gushes from the New York Times and Sixty Minutes.

Yet, despite the media blackout, Appeal for Courage's word-of-mouth campaign has out-performed the media's chosen petition.

1 Hey, now. Didn't you hear Jack Murtha?

Shut up! Those Troops are playing politics! They're political hacks like Petraeus!

Well perhaps part of the problem is people like those over
at the St. Louis forum, who are signing fake signatures to the petition as
their way of proving it worthless and deserving of no
media attention.

http://www.stltoday.com//forums/viewtopic.php?t=455867&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=8

On pg 2 :

“Go here to sign the appeal - just use
your honor that you are active duty military.

Surely none of the (now) 2800 signatories are home-based
non-military types.”

And later states on pg 4 :

“Mental midgets? How creative.

Your original post was about the Appeal for Courage. It is
supposed to be for military members to sign, but as you can see, there is no verification
required. It was begun over 6 months ago and has fewer than 3 thousand
signatures, at least 10 of which are fake (provided by various board members
today.) That is by no means a tour de force and deserves no media attention.”

            The people
on the St Louis forum may not be as industrious as the leftists over at Digg,
but they are dedicated! I wonder if they object to producing I.D. when voting…..cause
they are honest really they are!

3 Bluto,

The Navy LT (now in Baghdad) who started the site and the Marine SSG (now in al-Anbar) that helps him run the site are not vets.  They are active duty.

They are kinda busy this week.

4 I agree.  We need to turn in our SUV's to make tanks, sell the Targets to get the troops proper body armor, and ration gasoline.  Let's make the sacrifice.  Oh, and melt down all those idiotic magnetic ribbons to make mine detectors.  Oh wait, that would actually mean making a sacrifice.
