Lament of a Moderate Muslim...

This was posted by "tazi2010" in the comments section of the "Flight Club" video. I have no way to vouch for the writer's authenticity, nor do I have any particular reason to doubt it, either:

All of us who are moderate are living normal lives [in] society, first we hear of anything wrong is when we see a report in the media and wonder. Then we try to say something but the extremists are already in all committees&we are excluded from all debates, these extremists who maybe in CAIR too do not represent.I guess we dont have any reps..in the UK the plot to blow up planes was thwarted by moderate muslim¬ the MI5,but that was hardly mentioned in the media,we really dont know what to do.
If this is a legitimate comment from a Muslim individual, I certainly sympathize with him/her. There is certainly truth to the sentiment. To those of us outside the religion of Islam, it certainly appears that the radical activists are in the driver's seat and the remainder of the Muslim community is sitting quietly in the passenger seats.

*** MORE BELOW THE FOLD ***
From my perspective, there are at least four groups that comprise the Muslim community:
1. Muslims who think of themselves as friends of the West, and are working with us

2. Muslims who think of themselves as friends of the West, but are passive and quiet

3. Muslims who claim to be friends of the West, but are working against us

4. Muslims who hate us and say so

I have no idea of the exact proportions, but there seem to be a whole lot of folks in group 4, and a fair number in group 3. Group 2 may exist in substantial numbers, but it's a bit tough to tell. The numbers in group 1 appear to be small, but I suspect that is at least partly out of an interest on their part in keeping a low profile.

Folks, this is all a recipe for a series of very unfortunate events. Unfortunately for some of the quiet passengers just along for the ride, politics is a blunt instrument. When the West finally has enough of the radical activists, the backlash is likely to be severe. The "blast pattern" from the response will take out radicals along with those associated with them. The time when one can comfortably stand in the middle may come to an end sooner than you might think. In the hopes of avoiding this, I entreat the true moderate and liberal Muslims to vigorously stand up to the radicals. "Muslim unity" is a path to disaster.

As for the rest of the world, it's a good idea to remember that we DO have allies, and even friends, in our Muslim communities. While we shouldn't mistake an enemy for a friend, we also shouldn't mistake a friend--or potential friend--for an enemy. Both are counterproductive. Many of our enemies are Muslims, but not all Muslims are our enemies.

1 Hi Ragnar,
I don't mean to dampen the spirits, BUT amongst the plots uncovered by the Brit's was a particularly sinister attempt at infiltrating MI5 and MI6 by folks pretending to be moderates!!!!!

2 Theologians used to debate over how many angels could dance on the head of a pin. I wonder how many peaceful muslims could do the same?

It doesn't matter, because both are trick questions, because both creatures are purely mythical and exist only in fantasy. A good muslim is a dead one.

3 Sammi who translates the Saddam documents for me has put it this way:

why does the west expect moderate muslims to speak out when your own liberals wont?

5 There is no such thing as a moderate Muslim. Islam is the enemy.

6 It really sucks, but the real moderates are caught in a bind. They can speak up, and get killed by the extremists, or keep their mouths shut and get lynched with the extremists.

And the lynching is not that far away, either.

Let me be more precise:

If western liberals wont denounce Islamic extremism, how can we expect moderate muslims to? Half of our our own western population won't speak against Islamic extremism. And they usually only get snubbed at cocktail parties. Muslims often get killed. When the west shows it is serious, moderate muslims may speak out.

8 Good point Ray.

9 Ray: Radical Islamists and the left do seem to have formed an alliance.

It makes sense, actually. The left as always been proscriptive and undemocratic. While pretending otherwise.  And radical islam pretends peace while waging war.
