2 I used to buy into the lie that the 'Moral Majority' was the 'bad guys'. I was a Frank Zappa fan, and at the peak of my 'anti-censorship' views. I am older and wiser now, and I know things are never as simple as they at first appear. Akon comes to mind as good reason to have a 'Moral Majority'! Some things aren't censorship issues, but are instead, matters of human decency, and mutual respect. When one reads the Holy bible one thing becomes disturbingly clear. Nobody gets a free pass. Yes the repentant are forgiven but when the author/s of the Bible tells anyone’s story, they do so in an objective and utterly unbiased manner.

 

We know about Abraham’s cowardice, we know about King David’s infidelity, we know that the Apostil John was a violent bully and we know that the Apostil Paul was a murder. We also know the good each of these men did, and when we look at the late Rev. Jerry Falwell we should remember him in the exact same light.

 

Only Jesus Christ was perfect, the rest of us are merely human. Many evangelists fall into the trap of allowing only their good sides to be shown to the camera with the result being that when people discover that they are after all merely human that fact has disastrous affects on their ministries.

 

So when we look back on the Rev. Jerry Falwell let us look back on him for what he was, merely human. Let those of us who wish to celebrate the man’s life do so unbiased and objectively celebrating him as a member of the human race with all his faults who still chose to strive for something greater then himself.

 

The truth can never be told nor can it have so great an impact if only one side be shown. The Rev. Jerry Falwell was a man driven to preach the good news of salvation his message was one of love and forgiveness. Yet like any mere human he made mistakes and carried about the scars for those mistakes.

 

Whether one believes in God or Jesus Christ makes no difference, it takes a very special breed to assert that the teachings, the moral values, the ethical principals espoused in Christian theology have any other then a profoundly positive and beneficial impact on society.

 

Likewise the Rev. Jerry Falwells ability or inability to perfectly manifest those principals makes no difference. There is only one human being who was never a hypocrite, who never lied, who never fell short of perfection and it wasn’t the Rev. Jerry Falwell.

 

So as we take note of his passing and celebrate his life let us do so unbiased and objectively remembering the man for exactly what he was, a mere human. 6 Jerry Falwell softened his views not on morality, but on the church-state relationship and role of the Christian in politics when it comes to attempts to legislate morality.  However, one thing Falwell never softened his stance on is Israel in the plan of God and her unconditional, eternal land rights.  Through Liberty University,  Falwell and big name Christians like Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson spread the Biblical case for Israel, particularly since establishing the Tim LaHaye School of Prophecy there at Liberty.  When it came to Islam, Falwell exercised the protective function of a good shepherd and called a spade a spade.  Unlike other Christian Zionists, Falwell had the integrity to boldly stand for Israel without denying the Great Commission at the same time, as they are separate matters.   Thanks Jerry.

 It's not God's humor involved here; it's his mercy and compassion. Where Jerry is likely to be going is probably a far nicer place then where Larry is likely to be going. Mercy and compassion more or less dictate that the one who is going in the end to be fucked the longest and hardest up the ass get’s to live just a tad bit longer in just a tad bit more comfort.

 

So let Larry live longer and in more comfort, perhaps Larry will even eventually see the error of his way’s and repent.
