I heard a story once, supposedly true, that during WW2 a keeper who slept next to the elephant cage was dismembered and eaten by the elephant. Urban legend? Who knows? A good research project for when we need a break from all of this global war stuff

Reminds me of the time I took a wild-captured and extremely nasty rainbow boa to biology class, and got bitten on the side of the face as I was pointing out the length and sharpness of his... teeth (Which they use to snatch birds out of the air in mid flight).

Looks like Jeff let his guard down. Elephants are the most dangerous animal on the planet and frequently kill/maim people in the wild and in captivity. I for one tend to give elephants there distance even in a zoo park setting.
