JAG Lawyer Jailed for Revealing Secrets

Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Diaz.jpg(Norfolk, Virginia) U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Matthew M. Diaz, 41, a former staff judge advocate at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was convicted at court-martial Thursday of communicating secret information that could be used to injure the United States. It's no surprise that leftists are calling Diaz a hero.

Diaz leaked detainees' names, nationalities, the interrogators assigned to them and intelligence sources and methods to a human rights lawyer. The information was sent in an unsigned Valentine's Day card to Barbara Olshansky of the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR).

Navy Times:

After deliberating for three and a half hours, the jury sentenced Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Diaz to six months' confinement and dismissal from the Navy.

Jurors asked in their recommendation to the convening authority, Rear Adm. Fredric Ruehe, that Diaz's pay not be forfeited during his six-month confinement. Diaz has several dependents, including an ex-wife, a wife, a daughter, his mother and his father, who is on death row in California.

Although it appears that Diaz will collect his $6,834 monthly salary while in the brig, it hasn't been disclosed whether he will receive his pension for having 20 years in the military. Dismissal from service after a conviction for espionage likely negates future benefits. It's also not clear how a death row inmate can be considered a dependent.

As Diaz was being shuffled off to the brig, he said he was happy with the outcome of the court-martial and, "I should have done better. It was extremely irrational for me to do what I did." Not only irrational, counselor, but criminal. Also, for the future, Mr. Diaz, expect people to be quite reluctant to entrust you with sensitive information.

1 Did I not say it was time to take care of the lawyers?  Look to one of my other posts below...

See Plato's thoughts on lawyers, written over 2350 years ago.

Nothing has changed.

Idiot...thinks he knows some shit...all he knows is that at some point in the future he will realize he is a real piece of shit!  And he has been for some time.

2 Screw his dependents.  He deserves nothing.  Reduce him to E1 rank, fine him $100,000, and give him 20 to life in Leavenworth, KS.

3 Naw, take away his American citizenship, declare him an illegal, then let him work his way through this new amnesty bill our Lawyered congress has delighted the American citizenry in passing!  Set up some snipers at the border and maybe we could get off a lucky shot when this scumbag tries to sneak across with his paperwork...yea, right!  He'll probably be met by another set of lawyers who are moonlighting as guides at our border.

4 I sure hope the prick loses his rights to practice law in all 50 states for life...

5 Diaz was discovered because Barbara Olshansky turned the anonymous postcard over to authorities.  As "out there" as she is politically (she co-authored a book calling for Bush's impeachment), it was obvious to even her how illegal and dangerous this was.  Kudos to her for upholding the law.

6 When he was taken into custody, he should have been "accidentally" shot, 7 or 8 times

7 His old man's on death row? Looks like the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

8 99% of prisoners have debendents. Should they continue to be paid by their last job? The dumb ass is no longer in the military and doesn't work for the military so why should he be paid. If an immigrant? Kick his ass out of our nation. We could save money by having him and his old man share the same cell.

9 I'm sure he'll have a job with the ACLU when he gets out.

Six months in prison with pay is not nearly enough!

10 This is rather telling  "his father, who is on death row in California" I guess the apple didn't fall to far from the tree

11 Time of war + treasonous activities? The last time I checked when you add both of those together, you get a death sentence. This prick needs to get a death sentence. When you undermine your governments military operations during a time of war, however innocent you think it might be, thats called treason. And, treason is or should still be punishable by death. I'm thinking firing squad here since he's still a military man or at least he was a military man. But, we're just too fuckin' PC for that anymore aren't we. We've become a country filled with flacid-dicked politicians who won't stand up and execute a piece of shit like this. We're a bunch of squeamish pussies who don't have the stomach to execute treasonous scum anymore. This isn't America, this is a likely facsimile, a shadow of its former self.

12 the name says it all, Diaz.

America spits on your filthy wetback name and the millions of other filthy wetbacks that have invaded this country.

Trust a disease ridden spic with sensitive data? That commander should be put to death.

America wake up and get these filthy criminals out of our beloved country!
