War Kids Relief

War Kids Relief hopes, in partnership with the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports, to go to 100 of those youth centers and refurbish them, building classrooms and soccer fields and computer labs. They plan to launch a work-study program that would send Iraqi teens out into the cities and towns to do “Depression-era stuff†like painting buildings and picking up trash for a small wage. Every other week they’ll work; on alternate weeks they’ll receive vocational training at the youth centers.

this kind of scheme is long overdue. its the youth of Iraq that are the future.

Thanks for supporting our work with the youth of Iraq. This scheme is definitley long overdue. 50% of Iraq is under 18, but they have recieved little to no funding for programs of Positive Youth Development. Now, 3.4 million school aged youth are out of schools, Sadr City has a militia of 15 year olds running the streets, and insurgents are hiding IEDs in candy boxes then placing them by the schools. We need to teach these children to use tools to help rebuild their country before someone teaches them to use weapons to destroy it.
