One of the things I am told by my current Muslim contact is that we Christians are corrupt. He hasn't said so outright, but the implication is there that we deserve to be treated this way, because we are less worthy. Corrupt, and out of synch with the true teachings of Islam. You see, Islam was here before all other religions, and we Christians, Jews, and such, are suppossed to have screwed it up by deviating from righteous behavior, and Gods origional word. So it's our own fault. Ask a Muslim, he'll tell you.

So when we let others get away with equating our faith (Christian, Jew, etc.) with greedy commercialism, idolatry, and political corruption, we are letting the ground work commence for a society where Christians and Jews are seen as less than human, like they are treated in other parts of the world. So I'm afraid that the Dobson's and the Chocolate Jesus's actually matter.

It is true, and has been true for a long, long time, that Christians are tortured and killed for not relenquishing thier faith. You see, there is no Christian equivelant for 'taqiyya'. In other words, we pretty much have to take it to the gallows. Whether it is communists, or Muslims, it is the same. You are allowed to kill those who do not submit. Christians are fair game. Thier societies made them fair game, by changing into societies where Christians were considered the source of moral laxity. There are people who enjoy pursueing that transformative goal today. Go on YouTube, and poke around. You will see the hatred. SO excuse me if I take a chocolate Christ as a sign of more to come.

A post about crucifixtions and beheadings of children is in sharp contrast to one about simple defamation, and yet they are part of the same story. This story can only end when either we learn to be good to each other, or when everyone finally dies. If it was American Idol, you could vote for your favorite ending.  But this isn't TV. 

Not sure what else I was trying to say. I guess only that we need to deal with the horror that is encroaching on this world in it's physical sense, as well as it's ideological sense. We need to eliminate those who would murder children like that, and we need to be loud when someone attacks our values. These are seperate battles, in the same war. One is soul wrenching, while the other only stings a little, for now. I don't see where it is wisdom to neglect either one. The sting has a poison all it's own.

There are turning points in history.  What's the old Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times."?  We're at just such a turning point.  Your scenario of a US (actually I think Western) civil war is on the money.  We have to fight the two enemies at once:  The barbarism of the Mohammedans on the one hand, and the secular socialists (communists) on the other.  Well, I'm not surrendering, a great many of us won't.  Cold comfort, that, but some comfort anyway.

No true patriot wants to see a civil war in their country, neither is a true patriot willing to sit idly by while their beloved nation is subverted and corrupted by those with a different vision of that nation. A civil war is only contemplated with a greatest sadness and painful searching of the soul. It is a final act when all other avenues have failed. In a civil war, even the winning side looses. Sadly, no tragically the civil war coming to the United States seems to be as inevitable as the rising of the sun.
