Insurgents Storm Police Station, Free 33 Prisoners

This is bad news. Hat tip to Al Ghazali. IHT:

In a bold raid at daybreak, a band of at least 100 insurgents stormed a police station in the town of Muqdadiya northeast of Baghdad today, killing at least 18 police officers, wounding four others and freeing all of the 33 prisoners being held in the station, officials in the Interior Ministry said.

The insurgents shelled the police station with mortar fire before attacking with rifle-propelled grenades, hand grenades and machine guns, the officials said. Reports of the number of insurgents killed or captured varied widely, with the Interior Ministry saying only one was killed and the American military putting the number at five.

The attackers destroyed about 20 police vehicles and set fire to the police station and a nearby courthouse before escaping, the Iraqi officials said. An Iraqi army unit that tried to reach the scene to support the police during the attack was disabled by a roadside bomb as the convoy passed through a city gate.

American ground forces and two American OH-58A Kiowa helicopters rushed to the scene in support of Iraqi troops, said Sgt. Doug Anderson, a military spokesman. The helicopters came under small-arms fire and one soldier was wounded, he said. The helicopters both landed safely.

1 All the more suicide bombers due to lack of proper planning. Same as failure to secure stockpiles of explosives in the aftermath of " mission accomplished " which are now blowing up our revered servicemen. Who cares about the innocent civilians(terrorists and terrorist harborers)?

2 Hailus is an idiot. Seems to living in some reality where our enemies are either complete idiots, or they lay their arms down as soon as they see an American flag.

4 It's amazing how these left-wing nut jobs blame Bush rather than the people who actually detonate the bombs...

7 Poor Sonic, you must believe everything you hear in the MSM as fact. You poor, misguided, uneducated, bag of shit. Notice I didn't say moonbat or leftard. Yep, you are just plain dumb. With 20-30 insurgents being killed for every one of our brave soldiers, who is getting their ass kicked? I guess you just can't fix stupid.

8 They are getting beaten so badly they can storm police stations in broad daylight and free their friends?

Yup you are on the path to victory there no doubt!

10 >>>Name the country that is getting it's ass kicked in Iraq, need a clue?

The only beating America is taking is in the media. On the battlefield, those terrorists are no more significant than a flea on an elephant's left ball. It causes him no more than an itch.

If we lose this war, we'll lose it to the Libtards here at home-- not in Iraq.

12 We need leadership who works night and day figuring a way out of this mess! Even if it means missing a few photo-ops, golf games, 5-week wartime vacations, playing guitar with the old folks during hurricanes, or autistic basketball.

Whoever can track Hailus or psychl0ps through cyberspace gets a free pissed on copy of the Quaran! Your friends will be amazed!

13 It helps to actually be funny when you're trying to be funny, moonbat. Otherwise it's preferable to just deliver it straight. Take it from me, that's why I don't even try.

14 Seriously, there is no way that anyone can make the argument that the US is getting its six kicked in Iraq. However, it does seem to be failing, depending on what sources you believe, to achieve most if not all of their objectives in Iraq.
On the other hand, the insurgents (I like to refer to them as criminals, since that is what kidnappers, beheaders, cop-killing, prisoner-freeing scum are) aren't achieving any of their objectives either.
Rusty is right, if the 100 figure is right, and I hope that it isn't, then it is very bad news for the Iraqi people and the coalition. It does seem odd though that the insurgents would commit 100 troops to such a pointless, militarily, operation when those men could be better used in 25 IED bomb squads say. Was a high-valued target(s) being held there? How could such a large group move undetected by 300 000-odd coalition troops? Why was the coalition response so weak and how did the insurgents get away with such light casualties?

15 Iraqi Police, and National Guard are still considered "soft targets".
What you have to ask yourself to put this in perspective is, how important were these thirty-three men that were freed, if they were in a local police municipality, rather than under U.S custody?
This is part of making them autonomous, you cannot expect the U.S to do all the policing roles, protect police stations, patrol the area, while telling the Iraqi's it is time for them to manage the country themselves. The U.S response when needed, is exactly that -- when needed. It is time for Iraqi's to take the fight to the Insurgents / Terrorist's and we should be only assisting at a minimum.

16 Sonic, think about this for just a second. If I was suicidal, hopped up on enough religious mania and frothing at the mouth to gain entrance to paradise, I GUARANTEE you I could, with the help of a couple of my equally maniacal friends and our collective firearms, storm into a police station here in the states and ransack the place in no time flat. I am better armed than your average police officer. All it takes is a little insanity and the (im?)proper motivation. In a country like Iraq, where there are bombs laying around everywhere and everyone and their brother has an AK, how difficult was this to pull off? Really? Does this really mean we are getting our asses kicked? Nope. Simply more targets for the troops, who can't be everywhere at once. Get the facts straight before you flip out.
