I'm not sure which part of the story is worse: the AP angle which seems to gloat over the fact that they caught the military "lying" (I'm sure the military's motives had nothing to do with trying to protect the families of the slain) or the fact that those responsible could be either Sunni or Shia, and that they might have been English speakers. A blond English speaker leading them, by some reports.
UPDATE: Could this have been an Iranian operation? Not a lot of blondes in Iran, but they are there. Remember, that "Iran" means "land of the Aryans".
Allah is thinking this is the work of a Shia group. Me? No idea. I want to guess al Qaeda, based on their past attacks in Karbala and on the sophistication of this attack, but if it was al Qaeda I would expect they'd claim it. AP
Four American soldiers were abducted during a sophisticated sneak attack last week in the Shiite holy city of Karbala and their bodies were found up to 25 miles away, according to new information obtained by The Associated Press. So, is this report of English speaking blond terrorists just Iraqi bluster based on rumor? Or is there something deeper going on here? More than a few terrorists with European citizenship have been found in Iraq already, but the majority of these were of Arab immigrant descent. The brazen assault, 50 miles south of Baghdad on Jan. 20, was conducted by nine to 12 militants posing as an American security team. They traveled in black GMC Suburban vehicles _ the type used by U.S. government convoys _ had American weapons, wore new U.S. military combat fatigues, and spoke English.
In a written statement, the U.S. command reported at the time that five soldiers were killed while "repelling the attack." Now, two senior U.S. military officials as well as Iraqi officials say four of the five were captured and taken from the governor's compound alive. Three of them were found dead and one mortally wounded later that evening in locations as far as 25 miles east of the governor's office....
Iraqi officials said the approaching convoy of black GMC Suburbans was waved through an Iraqi checkpoint at the edge of Karbala. The Iraqi soldiers believed it to be American because of the type of vehicles, the distinctive camouflage American uniforms and the fact that they spoke English. One Iraqi official said the leader of the assault team was blond, but no other official confirmed that.
I may have some information that could be tangentially relevant here, but I've been asked to withhold it until next week. Stay tuned.

Sounds like Iranian-backed shia, or perhaps even Iranian's themselves.

This story sound really fishy to me. My gut is that some Iraqi is fibbing in order to protect his incompetence/collusion. Why admit you let a bunch of jihadis through the checkpoint when you can claim you were fooled by super villains right out of '24'?

A little google for "blonde iraqi" led me to this page where someone makes a similar claim:

<DIV>If true then my hunch would be, Tater/Mahdi or Bader/girls with possible assistance from Persian Quds Puds..

Who said there was a woman involved? Blonde? Is Nasar still locked away?
I'd say it was planned by AQ or Iran.
