greyrooster and wb both have good points so let me just say, tht these are not the tmes to be stoking our enemies fires by equating ourselves with them. We are better. We have always been better.

The favorite anti-American slam is to bring up native Americans, but I could show you that as often as not, some other enemy was stirring up one tribe or another for thier own gain against us. Also, they had wars before Euopean colonies were established.

The world wasn't all lilly pure before America came along, and we inherited a lot of crap from the nations before us, but we have done more to counter the old ways, and promote true freedom and equality than any other in history. And we would rather trade, than fight. The USA has always been like that. Trade is good for everyone. When bad guys come and muck that up, you need to kick thier butts, but otherwise lets make a deal!

So to wb, yes we did things. So what?! I figure we have already dealt with that, and don't need to punish ourselves any more. It just makes our enemies feel like its OK to kick us some more. Giving them liscence to kick us leaves us on the defensive, and it weakens our own counter points by association. When under fire, shoot back! Giving an inch by way of acknowledgement is a losing strategy, and it's why we lost the last election to the leftards. Switch targets.

To greyrooster I say, yes, there are a lot of whiners, and assholes with thier hands out crying that we owe them. We still have to try to be honest about whether or not we ever did anything wrong. We sure don't need to go around wearing a 'kick-me' sign over it, but we shouldn't try and deny it either. Our hand has been in the cookie jar a few times, and we learned from it. 13 Good points. I finally saw the movie. The film delves little at all into the character of the Persian Empire, that was not the filmmakers' aim. But anything to prove that someone in the Middle East will get angry if mentioned at all....LOL. Oddly, this movie has caused no problems in my half Greek family with any of the Iranians we know (who do identify themselves as "Persians"). Who knows, maybe a mock throw-down will have to be staged.

Are there any complaints that Persians in the film are depicted as having a host of rather incredible deformities, or resemble orcs as portrayed in "The Lord of the Rings" films? You'd think they'd get hung up on that part.

14 Professor, I don't believe I ever said anything that implied we had needed to be punished further as a nation for mistakes that were made. It would be fundementaly wrong to deny that they were made and a real disservice to those who paid the ultimate price by having to correct a moral injustice with a political solution.  I don't see how being in denial aids the enemy. In fact quite the opposite. I think you're missing my whole point.  Being honest does not weaken our resolve, it strengthens our position. The only thing I originaly responded to was the comment that the US had never abused any one, it's bullshit. As for my target sights, they are set on inaccuracies, where ever they may be. Truth doesn't really have a side. It just is what it is. Pointing out other things that went on does not somehow exempt the actions when veiwed through the prism of hindsight  that were clearly wrong. Keeping it real is how we learn and grow. Keeping a blind eye because it's not a comfortable issue only insures that it will come back, not only by those from the cultures that it happened to but by the culture that will repeat this as it keeps no recollection of it's past.
 
Let's try an exercise in seperating facts from feelings.
 
Group A had group B show up and take what ever they could hold onto by force or by lying. Group A was for the most part extinguished.
 
Group C were forced to work as slaves for group B.
 
 
Group D was told fight with us and we will treat you better than group E. After group D did that, group B said no, we've decided to treat you the same way as group E did.
 
Group B has f*cked up along the way, that's all.
 
When groups A-Z unite, they are the alphabet ( America in this weak analogy) and can only be broken from the inside ( read... racism)
 
That's the card that's going to be played here against us in the US. Remember that in wars, people will fight for their own causes not just the reasons that it started.
 
You say that we've dealt with all that, but you still need to talk about it as though it has no bearing. I agree that it doesn't until you have someone say that it didn't happen.  It's much more productive to look at our collective history, say yes.... that happened and yes... it was wrong and we are now stronger because we try to learn from our mistakes.  That forces the enemy to only be able to attack what we are doing now, which if we have learned from our past, is a much better job than anything we've done before.
 
I'm not doing anything other than trying to strengthen our hand to face that. Please don't dismiss that as not something that needs to be dealt with, it's too important.

I agree with Michael, the American Indian thing has been overplayed. If truth be know the Indians started the killing, torture and enslavement of white people same as they had always done to each other. Mankind played by different rules 500 years ago.  When a superior culture met another culture they took it over. At the time of the White man intering the new world Indians had no central government, no domestic animals, no written lanquage, hell, they hadn't even invented the wheel. History shows the biggest Indian murders of one tribe against the other was in Oaklahoma to settle age old differences. If white men hadn't not discovered the new world it wouldn't have advanced one bit in the last 500 years. They would still be running around attacking and killing each other and at time eating each other. Now we have millions of Indians living in a prosperous nation with opportunities for everyone. Not the white man's fault if a bottle of bourdon is worth more to them than a book. Minorities have been brainwashed into thinking they cannot compete because of who they are. And it get worst every day. They can get off their asses and compete or mother nature will take can of them as she always does in the end. The Government articially holding them up is bullshit. Get up, quit crying, quit hating, quit your jealousy (the real truth). Either stand up or dig a hole and lay in it. Not my job to hold any able bodied person up. I've enough to do with those unfortunate ones who cannot help themselves.
Amazing how blacks in this area can't find work. Their is a building boom and I personally know 3 contractors begging for help. THAT WILL WORK. The result? Mexicans getting two bills a day under the table. And they don't spend it on gold chains and funny looking cloths. They save it. The Home Depot a few miles from me has a dozen Mexicans standing in front waiting for work. They go to where work is. They don't wait for the government to send it to them.
