Top Abu Sayyaf Terrorist Dead

deadAbuSulaiman.JPGHooray!

Via FOXNEWS:MANILA, Philippines — A top Al Qaeda-linked militant accused of masterminding the kidnapping of three Americans who was long wanted by U.S. and Philippine authorities has been killed, the military said Wednesday.

Jainal Antel Sali Jr., popularly known as Abu Sulaiman -- a top leader of the Abu Sayyaf rebel group -- was fatally shot in a fierce gunbattle Tuesday in a clash with army special forces, military chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon said.

Sulaiman is the highest-ranking Abu Sayyaf commander killed by U.S.-backed troops. Washington had offered up to $5 million for his capture.

"We have resolved that this group and their major commanders must be finished off, that this notorious group should see its end," Esperon told a news conference.

That’s very good news! We should spread some of that five mil reward around the unit that risked thier lives to put and end to this terrorist.

2 I wonder if the guys backing Abu Sayaff in the Philippines are the same people screwing with Southern Thailand.  If so, it makes me wonder the roles that Indonesia and Malaysia are playing in all this.

I agree, I'm certain that the US Special Forces there would enjoy the cash.

4 Northern Cross:

The Indonesian and Malaysian governments hate each other passionately. Neither government sponsors terror. There are individuals (not factions,) within both governments (mainly in the armies,) who support jihad, but South East Asia and the Malay Archipelago are not the Middle East.

Abu Sayyaf and all the other koranimal terrorist groups/criminal gangs in that area have ties to Al Qaeda, etc. but they sure as hell aren't government sposored.

Buddhist Thailand has effective military and police forces that will eventually crush the terrorists, whether the Prime Minister approves of it or not. He may be removed from office.

The Philippine President doesn't want to kill a lot of civilians in the South, but the Army is determined to wipe out terrorists.

Indonesia's President is weak, but he hates terrorism and is considered a heretic by real islamopithecines in the Middle east.

Human life is cheap in that part of the world--just like Gen, Westmoreland infamously said--but eventually enough innocent people will be killed to provoke a real reaction from the authorities, who are anything but P.C. Only the overweening incompetence of the terrorists has prevented them from killing larger amounts of people so far.
