I Think This Star Wars Quote Sums It Up

So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause.

"Long live the sovereign people! Long live President Hugo Chavez! Long live socialism!" said National Assembly President Cilia Flores as she proclaimed the "enabling law" approved by a show of hands. "Fatherland, socialism or death! We will prevail!"

Fatherland? Where have I heard that term before?

1 Strange brew amigos.....strange brew they're drinking down there in Venezuela...

And the stranger thing is....(middle income friends of mine strung across the continent of South America) they quake in their boots at the prospects of a "Chavez" in their own countries....

-Bolivia-has their incomprehensibly doltish President:Evo Morales....a real salt of the earth kinda guy....socialist and stupid (not to mention resentful of wealthy and/or educated people) to the core.

-Peru- one such 'Chavez' wannabe just lost that election by inches...and I mean...INCHES..and they got a wealthy ex-President, who sings with guitar in hand for the "poor people" of Peru...yes, another lefty, but not quite a Chavez socialist.

Ecuador---Rafael Correa, a leftist is an unknown quantity to myself...but not to others. Wikipedia has this on the asshole:

Correa said that Mr Chávez's comparison of Mr Bush with Satan was unfair to the devil.[12] Correa has pledged to shut down the U.S. military base in Manta, where 400 U.S. soldiers are stationed as part of the Eloy Alfaro Air Base
– though he has also jokingly stated that “We can negotiate with the
U.S. about a base in Manta, and if they let us put a military base in
Miami, if there is no problem, we’ll accept".
[13].
He also expressed his intention to reduce the burden of the debt
service, through compulsory debt restructuring, saying he will give
priority to social development

Best of luck to us in the 21st century.....and they call this "progress"?

2 too bad I can't edit that comment....

And the stranger thing is....(middle income friends of mine strung
across the continent of South America) they quake in their boots at the
prospects of a "Chavez" in their own countries....the stranger thing is, they're afraid of where their own countries are going....and in the same breath call our President GW Bush a devil and liar....

just who do they think America is anyway?  friend or foe?

4 Oh, but he's one of the good kind of dictators.  You know, the anti-American leftist kind of dictator everybody finds so acceptable.

5 Where did you hear "fatherland" before?  Probably the same place you heard "Enabling Act" before.

Even more bizarre and frightening is this quote from the AP story:
"Dictatorship is what there used to be," Rodriguez said. "We want to impose the dictatorship of a true democracy."

Say what?  Any brain that can say that seriously is not from the same reality that I inhabit.

6 "Fatherland? Where have I heard that term before?"

Hmmmm Mmmm Ahhh yes  the Nationalist SOCIALIST government of NAZI GERMANY.

Ahh the love of the radical left always makes such great governments.  If this guy is not assasinated I predict sooner rather than later Venezuala will be taken back to the 3rd world on a bullet train, either by Chavez overreaching with his greater Bolivia BS or having a bad dream and killing a few million of his peeps or maybe it will be slower as he nationalizes the economy  (for the peoples sake of course) which of course will just result in the total crash of said economy see: N Korea, Soviet Union, ect.....

Where in Democracy does it say to be free Democracy must allow beliefs that are the anti-democracy, that if they win just one time democracy ends, where is the suicide self distruction part in Democracy?   I think it must be in that part of the "lliving document" that says Sedition, Espionage, hell out right  Treason during a active war effort are actually Freedom of speech "dissent" or some such BS.

8 My grandmother always told me to be careful what you wish for, as you might just get it. I have a great feeling the liberals in the US and Europe are not going to be so happy about the results of their wishes.

9 templar,

obviously you don't know Leftards.  They couldn't care less about Leftwing tyranny, as long as Chavez gives the proles their healthcare.  And the more anti-American the better.

14 Fear leads to Anger.. Anger leads to Fear. Fear leads to the Dark Side.

Unless of course you're angry at evangelicals/conservatives/Republicans, then fear and anger are the stuff of Liberal love and enlightenment.

Goddam hypocrites every one of them.
