American Missing In Iran Is I.D.'d

Robert A. Levinson.

Here's where they say he went:

He was visiting Kish Island, an Iranian resort and free-trade zone off the southwest coast that does not require a visa to visit. He had traveled to Iran from the United Arab Emirates, U.S. officials said.

So he wasn't necessarily traveling in Iran proper. Here's what they say he was doing there:

The State Department said Levinson was going to meet someone to set up an interview or interviews for a project involving a book and a documentary by an independent producer and author believed to be from Canada, U.S. officials said. He was doing legwork for what a senior U.S. official described as an "innocuous" project that "had no connection with anything political." The official added: "The guy was on a perfectly harmless private activity." But he also may have been doing some work for his own consulting business, U.S. officials said.

2 I am under the impression that there is an agent of Mullahcracy in Central Canada who pretends to be an independent Iranian film maker.
I hope this American fellow did not fall foul of the likes of him.

3 I remember reading somewere another IRGC leader that was supposed to be visiting a Naval Base in SE Iran that just up and disapeared, never showed up.  It was a small blip don't remember much if any follow up short speculation it was another defection since his familiy was with him and also never showed up.

Could be this American business guy was either part of that OP (in which case I would say him hanging out afterwards was somewere between retarted and insane), OR could be that that the Iranians after the fact drew a map and blanket arrested all any westerners in the area.

Who knows?

4 C-Low,
The only defection from the Mullahcracy in the Persian Gulf area that I'm aware of was that of the Chief Consulate of the Islamic Republic in Dubai who defected to Sweden along with his entire family a few years ago.

5 Still the FBI connection stands out.

6 Robert Levinson is no typical ex-FBI type; he's one of the world's top experts on money laundering and the Russian mafia. His disappearance—on the site of the future Iranian Petroleum Bourse—is very troubling. But, for what it's worth, Iran's PRESSTV is now reporting that he's not missing, merely detained by security forces, and will be released in a couple of days: http://writingcompany.blogs.com/this_isnt_writing_its_typ/2007/04/bob_levinson_no.html (Keep scrolling down for more on Levinson.)
