One article in the draft law says thieves found guilty ofstealing goods worth more than the market price of 94 grams (3ounces) of gold should have a hand amputated, a punishment stipulated in the Koran, Islam's holy book, and carried out in some Islamic countries.Via Pigilito, who has more.The Indonesian government agreed to allow Shariah law in Aceh four years ago as part of negotiations to end the 29-year war between separatist rebels and the military. The province is slowly introducing elements of the legal code.
Last year, special Islamic courts began enforcing some of the laws, which include punishing gamblers with caning, forcing womento cover their heads in public and banning the consumption ofalcohol.

On the subject of hand amputation: How many here do the happy dance when a home or business owner shoots a burglar/robber/home invader? I know it makes me smile, just a little to know that some incurable scumbag has gotten his comeuppance. Is hand amputation really much different?

Everyone in Indonesia is a fucking thief, and I mean everyone. Along with lying, it's the national pastime over there. The hand amputation proposal is doomed to failure. If the local government officials triy to institute this barbarity, the public will string them up, and the central government in Jakarta knows it.
Indonesia is infected with islam, but it will never become a terminal case like the Middle East. Indos just aren't stupid enough to sink that low, and they're plenty stupid.
The real problem with islam is that it was concocted by Arabs, and Arabs have always been the dregs of humanity. Their culture has absolutely nothing of value to offer to civilization. Cockroaches deserve more sympathy.

We should implement this in the United States. Then, the potential would exist for a liberal in this country to mistake a crap-bag thief for a U.S. Service Member casualty and treat them with the same disdain that they do returning veteran amputees.
