Over the last two weeks, the blogosphere has buzzed about a bare-knuckled incident that provides a glimpse at how relations between left and right have deteriorated in some circles.Right-wing blogger Jeff Goldstein maintains a well-respected site entitled Protein Wisdom. Left-wing Deborah Frisch maintains the south(west)paw blog. She prides herself on attacking 'right-wing nuts' -- or 'wingnuts' in blogspeak -- by posting insults on their websites. (Left-wingers are referred to as 'moonbats'.)
An exchange on Protein Wisdom between Goldstein and Frisch turned so nasty that it landed in the mainstream media. On July 12, Brit Hume of FOX News reported, "Deborah Frisch escalated a foreign policy argument with blogger Jeff Goldstein last week, writing that if 'someone shot you and your 'tyke' it wouldn't slow me down one iota.' She also wrote that she hopes 'no one Jon-Benets' the child -- a reference to the brutal murder of a young Colorado girl ten years ago -- and made disturbing sexual remarks about the boy."
. . .The failure of Frisch's blog was widely ascribed to similar malice until she explained "SWP is back up and running after a 36 hour erasure due to my using a fake phone number (555 1212) when I registered my domain name."
Interesting... I wonder how that could've happened?
UPDATE: Frisch is now claiming that everything is simply unfolding according to her master plan:
"I've been joking for a while that I want to be a left-wing Ann Coulter," she says, referring to the right-wing pundit. "As hard as it is to see right now, this is part of my career plan."Strange spin. Of course, if Prof. Frisch really had drafted all her child-molestation sickness in cold deliberation according to a master plan to further her career, ...[More below the fold] ...she'd have to be even more "ephed up" than we thought--and that's pretty damned "ephed up". Here's Frisch's message to Colbert:And, who knows, it could land her on Letterman or Leno.
"I'm thinking Stephen Colbert," Frisch says.
Monsieur Colbert, je pense que l'affaire goldfrisch would make a great segment for your show! Pense about it, hombre!
I think we all knew this was coming. Just so you know, it's here. The Frisch incident apparently isn't about a crazy woman threatening children. It's about "censorship, self-censorship, academic freedom, freedom of speech, blogging&professoring":
"It bothers me that somebody blogs about something and it gets them into trouble," [Prof. Kevin R. Kemper] said. "How to solve that ethically and legally is the big question. I just hope that this doesn't become a reason to censor."And so it begins. Like I said, I think we all knew this was coming.
In her recent commentary on Goldstein, Frisch admits that Goldstein and his readers were nice to her, even though they knew up front she was a moonbat troll:
At first, Jeff, a third-rate writer and the fourth-rate writers who hang out in the bowels (i.e., comments section) of his blog were nice to me. They recognized me as a “moonbat troll†and even offered to have me be the moonbat in the zoo. I kinda sorta thought protein wisdom had invited me to be their resident moonbat troll. In other words, she was accepted into the conversation even though she had a different viewpoint. She admits that she was even starting to get traffic from Goldstein's readers:
I noticed that traffic on my blog was increasing with lots of links from PW. Even though Jeff and his anklebiters seemed really stupid, mentally ill and deranged compared to my previous blog experience, I stayed on account of sitemeter and on account of the zoo invitation. But Frisch got tired of playing nice with her new friends, and decided it was time to go into crazy bitch mode:
I got tired of pretending the morons who have nothing better to do than chitchat in the comments section of Lipid Stupidity were a worthy opponent. Even though there were a few dozen of them and one of me, they seemed unbelievably stupid, boring and not worth talking to. I didn’t want it to be a waste, so I tried to bait Jeff into banning me – the troll’s badge of honor.Frisch was apparently confusing Goldstein's site with a moonbat site. Moonbats generally can't handle dissent, so a lot of moonbat sites ban suspected dissenters at the drop of a hat. DailyKos is a good example of this practice. You have to have an account to post on DailyKos, and you can lose your account in a heartbeat if they identify you as a "troll"--i.e., someone who doesn't toe the party line. In any event, Goldstein, to his credit, decided against banning Frisch. Frisch lost it. The rest is history.
Folks, the left is going to continue trying to make Prof. Frisch into a victim and into a martyr for "academic freedom." I hope we won't let 'em get away with it.
UPDATE UPDATE:Cmunk deserves props for noting the latest Frisch-mania earlier this am. Kudos are in order.

Since Goldstein chose not to pursue her through law enforcement, just forget about it and move on until she pulls it again for more attention on someone that will put her in jail.
She moved to Eugene.
That is to be used as an insult now; as in: "Hey, moonbat- why don't you move to Eugene?"

Wow. She just doesn't get it. Earth to Deb: even Leftwingers think you're a sick fuck. You aren't going to be their "Ann Coulter."
