Gen. Pace and Atty. Gen. Gonzales : Same Situation?

Via the Politico;

"Yes, it's an interesting comment about Congress, isn't it, that, on the one hand, they say that a good general shouldn't be reconfirmed, and on the other hand, they say that my attorney general shouldn't stay... And I find it interesting. I guess it reflects the political atmosphere of Washington."
From what I've seen, it seems to be generally-agreed that Gen. Pace is, indeed, a solid officer with a solid track record, a man who has succeeded in life through his own brainpower and hard work.

It also seems to me to also be generally agreed that Alberto Gonzales is an embarassing idiot who's made it where he is mostly by the color of his skin and his close association with the Bush clan. We can all be thankful that a better minds prevented George Bush from pushing his preferred nominee into the Chief Justice slot. ("Chief Justice Alberto Gonzales"--I think that'd keep us all up at night.)

In a reconfirmation hearing, Pace would be made to answer for all the stupid mistakes the Commander-in-Chief has made in Afghanistan and Iraq over the last few years, whether he had any control over them or not.

In contrast, Gonzales is being made to answer almost exclusively for his own stupidity.

The idea that Bush would infer any equivalence whatsoever between these two very different men or these two very different situations just baffles me.

1 Don't forget he would also be asked about his stance on Homosexuality which became a manufactured "scandal"

2 You obviously hate Latinos.

Bigot.

3 The similarity is obvious.
Pace makes picante sauce that is not from "New York City!"
Gonzales is hispanic, also not from New York City.
Thus, New York liberals are opposed to both Pace and Gonzales.
QED.

4 Damn you bigot. Damn you. And I guess you think Gen Powell got to his position because he was black. Probably think Willie Jefferson is guilty because he's black. Bet you even think Ray (Chocolate City) Nagin was elected because he is black. Yea! I know you bigots. O. J. Simpson is a victim of racism. KKK'rs, stormtroopers, Nazi bigot.

5 Alberto Gay? Don't think so. Just a yes man to the big boss man. He really hasn't shown any leadership. Also talks and acts like one of those little academic whimps. You know the type. The ones who smile and agreed with everything you say until your back is turned.

8 Ragnar is absolutely right. Alberto Gonzalez is a fumbling incompetent idiot who got to be Attorney General because not only is he Latino, but of  "most favored amongst all illegal aliens" Mexican descent to boot,  and of course, thanks to Bush's cronyism.

He should be booted off his job and exiled to Mexico, along with his 12 million Mexican "compadres" invading us like swarms of goddamned "cucarachas" - Mexican  roaches, that "El Presidente Bush" wants to shove down our throats and legalize!

And mind, all you pro-illegal immigration open-borders bleeding-hearts reading this, I am of truly "Hispanic" descent (as in from Spain) and have family relations who are Mexican and or descended from Mexicans, and no, my forebears did not sneak across the southern border, but came to America LEGALLY. So stick all your hand-wringing  "bigot" and "racism" whines about my comments where your proctologist examines you (hope it don't hurt much).

9 I believe there is more to Pace being let go than meets the eye. Specifically the elevation to the post of a Navy officer. This compliments the fact that a Navy adm. is also in charge in Iraq. This may simply be a change in ideology with the Gates administration (or it may be exactly as Gates says). However it may be that there is a future naval borne military engagement being planned for the region and a navy adm. is the best man for the job.

10 TexAg03: Not! Pace was getting to warlike for the likes of Gates. Gates is merely a paperwork warrior. Pace made statements akind to Fred Thompsons stand and it scared the shit out of Gates who believes in doing nothing but holding on. When you don't want a fight. You call the navy.

12 Mentioning General Pace and Parasite General Gonzalez in the same post
is nothing short of an insult to a great man, unless you're writing
that Pace's car ran over Gonzalez while he was gnawing on some
roadkill. He is just an establishment apparatchik, and should only be
pitched in the trench with the rest of them.
