Fierce Battle Raging In Najaf

Iraq's Interior Ministry has told CNN that US and Iraqi forces have killed between 250 and 300 insurgents in a fierce battle inside an-Najaf, Iraq.

Reuters is reporting that a U.S. military helicopter was shot down in the fighting; the military declined comment it said.

Hotair.com is following this breaking story as well.

Update by Vinnie: That would be 18,000 - 21,600 virgins raisins for you who are keeping score at home.

Update by Tim: In a special report on the fighting, CNN says the U.S. military has confirmed that one of its helicopters was shot down killing the two-man crew.

A plot to kill Grand Ayatollah Sistani triggered the intense fighting when Iraqi security forces intervened to stop the plot. Iraqi officials estimated that 600 gunmen were involved in the battle that it now says is 90 percent complete.

1 I can see it now... comparisons to Vietnam and the tet offensive, probably see it on CNN first.

2 Tet was the beginning of the end for the N. Vietnamese, but the MSM spun it the other way, and convinced the American people we should "redeploy" our forces back home.  The same MSM cocksuckers are doing the same thing to us now.

3 People keep making comparisons to Vietnam. I remember watching an interview with a Vietnam veteran who expressed frustration at not being allowed to attack VC training bases etc in North Vietnam. BUT, President Bush's recent order reverses that approach completely (at least that's what I would like to think). I hope the coalition forces in Iraq are now free to attack terrorist training camps and arms depots inside Iran and Syria

4 There's no way that we'll fall for the MSM spin now--thanks to blogs like Jawa, they can't dupe us all, only the weak and lazy leftist types.

American will prevail in the face of incredible evil--I can't believe how horribly vile these terrorists are.

5 The same MSM cocksuckers are doing the same thing to us now.

But today there is a way to fight back.  The Internet.

6 They will not behave like human beings and I do not regret the killing of these ape men.

It sounds like the Iraqis took primary responsibility on this one, albeit with U.S. gunship support.  Seems like a step in the right direction in terms of the overall policy on Iraqi reconstruction.  It's also something that should encourage both sides of the aisle, but we all know it won't.  Unfortunate.
