Liberal Attacks Republican In His Home

They're just so peaceful, well-meaning and level-headed gosh darn it.

The argument got heated and the suspect learned that the young residents had not enlisted in the military and "put their all" behind the Republican-led war effort in Iraq, police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said.

The suspect refused to leave the home after repeatedly being asked to do so, police said. The three roommates were hit multiple times each as they attempted to get the suspect out of the door, authorities said.

The suspect continued to be aggressive and disorderly even after a city police officer arrived, the report states.

Andrew Stone, 23, was charged with three counts of assault and battery. A magistrate released Stone on his own recognizance and he was ordered to have no further contact with the victims.

It was not clear in the report what political agenda Stone was supporting.

Oh, come on! He was probably a rabid GOP supporter, right?

No, the paper apparently wasn't joking when it wrote that last line. I'll get them started with the research - tryWikipedia, for starters:

Terrorism in Salt Lake City? II

sulejman_talovic_slc_terror.jpgWas Sulejman Talovic a terrorist? I don't know, but it's certainly too soon to claim that he isn't a terrorist. His family seems to think that he was "influenced" and "trained" to commit the murders.

"Somebody got (the guns), and maybe (they were) training him and tell(ing) him (to), 'go shoot somebody,'" said his father in an interview with KSL. LGF has the video.

Debbie Schlussel claims that Amir Omerovic is his cousin. The significance? Omerovic was convicted of sending letters he claimed were laced with anthrax to the offices of Gov. John G. Rowland and the United States Coast Guard and Marines in Connecticut. One of the letters said:

09.11.01. Anthrax is deadly. You breathe and die. This is only the beginning. Americans will die. Death to America and Israel. (Source: NYT)
We also know that he attended mosque.

If terrorism was his primary motivation, it would also be troubling if another thing pointed out by Schlussel is true. From the SLC Trib:

With the permission of Talovic's parents, detectives searched their home but did not take any computers or video games, she said.
UPDATE: Apparently, he didn't even own a computer. So, the fact that none were siezed kinda follows......

It also seems to nullify the discussion on the network of cyber jihad below. Thanks to Vinnie for pointing out LGF's update, and also for saying something about relying on somebody something or other..........

Update, Too by Vinnie Nonsense, Rusty, the fact that something something is wrong in her assessment nullifies nothing. He certainly could have accessed computers at an internet cafe type place, or the public liberry. We know he accessed them at school, because the articles state he was found looking at prohibited sites. more...

NY Traitor Indicted for Terror Financing

So many Islamic charities, so many indictments.

Mid Hudson News
:

In the latter half of 2006, Alishtari accepted payment to discreetly transfer these funds, believing that they were earmarked for Pakistan and Afghanistan. He believed that the funds were being sent abroad to support a terrorism training camp in Afghanistan by funding the purchase of equipment such as night vision goggles. One of these transfers, which is also the subject of the international money laundering charge in the indictment, relates to his transfer of $25,000 from a bank account in New York to a bank account in Montreal, Canada, with the intent that the funds be used to provide material support to terrorists.
Q: If he was trying to finance forces fighting American troops in Afghanistan, should't the charge be treason?

Is Group Training Jihadis in the U.S. & Australia?

Are Muslims training for jihad in the U.S. and Australia? Possibly. They are called "Silat Mubai" and they are dedicated to teaching people "the classical Warrior Traditions of the Muslim people."

Whenever someone advertises as "Islamic military training" a red flag should go up. When that same group claims they don't support terrorism BUT

Muqawama (Resistance) operations and Martyrdom operations against foreign occupation forces in Muslim lands are what we consider to be legitimate Military operations
then be VERY worried.

In other words: bin Laden, we don't support. Jihadis in Iraq and Afghanistan: our kind of people!

While the main group seems to be located in Taiwan, they also offer "Islamic warrior training" in Australia and the United States. Their emphasis is on martial arts training, but they also have weapons training.

Here is an image of "Emir Ekrem" showing his moves to an audience in Melbourne, Australia. Notice the keffiyas, the symbol of Palestinian "resistance", being worn by two of his students.

silatmumbaitraining.jpg

On one non-Islamic forum, a participant claimed he had been trained by the group in Taiwan and that they welcomed non-Muslims. Another says that he had been in contact with Silat Mubai in Taiwan and that they were not jihadists.

This, combined with the fact that some of their American devotees do not appear to be Muslims, suggests that the group falls into the category of "Muslim nationalists". That is, while not primarily motivated by religion per se, they do identify with Muslims in any Muslim vs. non-Muslim political struggle. Terrorist groups such as the PLO fall into this category in my classification scheme. Other terror groups, such as the 1920s Revolutionary Brigade in Iraq, who think of their jihad in terms of Muslim vs non-Muslim (not necessarily Sunni v. Shia), also fall along that spectrum.

And though none of those involved may personally be a jihadist, they certainly are openly supporting them, and quite possibly training them.

The "head trainer" for Silat Mubai, in this forum, is quick to disavow killing civilians, but goes on to say:

Strapping a bomb on yourself and running into an enemy convoy is what a real Mujahid does.
Another picture of "training" from their website.

silatmumbaitraining2.jpg

The group also encourages Muslims to fight against the U.S. and Australia in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. And remember, this is their public stance:

If there are those Mujuhideen who decide to join their brothers in Iraq to fight against the occupation forces, then they are justified in doing so to relieve the people of foreign occupation and to institute a proper Islamic government, God Willing. No one can stop them from going to fight to protect the lands of Muslims who are being attacked. It is their right to do so and as long as they follow the guidelines of the Warrior Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, then they will win by martyrdom or by victory. One as excellent as the other.
Then also identify who the true enemy is:
If an American/Israeli/Russian/British or any other foreign occupation Soldier drops sick and injured on my doorstep, I will pay a doctor to take care of him and bring him to full strength again. In the future if we meet in combat I will kill him or he will kill me and I will not think twice about slitting his throat or putting a bullet into his heart at that time.
Remember, this is an Australian Muslim making the statement. The Australians are fighting side by side with the U.S. in Iraq. Isn't that sedition? To encourage Muslims to go and kill your own countrymen?

While the group's activities seem to be centered in Australia and Taiwan, they also have "trainers" in the United States. I won't mention any more details about them, because of the four names that have been affiliated with the group in the past, two of them appear to be non-Muslims (one actively serving in the U.S. military) who's only connection was that they shared an interest in martial arts. A third I have no information on.

The last affiliate in the U.S. comes off as a very liberal Sufi--- of a school of thought that many Muslims would consider heretical because they are so liberal--- on a forum he posted to in the past. Like many Muslims, he defends the extremism of Silat Mubai's founder as simply a "devout Muslilm" who happens to share a different view than he. In this case, though, "devout Muslim" translates into supporter of jihad.

We'll continue looking into the U.S. connection and get back when we know more.

Thanks so much to Bobby for doing much of the leg work for this post.

Daniel Joseph Maldonado: How the Internet Created a Terrorist

Daniel-Al-Jughaifi.jpgHow does Daniel Joseph Maldonado, a mild-mannered married Boston native, become transformed into Daniel Al-Jughaifi, a zealous supporter of sharia law, and then into Abu Mohammed, an armed jihadi fighting in Somalia alongside al Qaeda operatives? The internet, that's how.

Aaron at Internet Hagannah traces Maldonado's exodus:

Attitudes like Daniel's don't develop in a vacuum. They develop and are nurtured in community with other Muslims, and that community is found online. Islamist forums function like little terrorist factories. Muslims enter at one end, and terrorists and their plots issue forth from the other end. No matter how good we are at monitoring these online communities, the fact is that relying on such monitoring to prevent terrorist attacks is like trying to catch a bullet in mid-flight. Just ask the man who was murdered in Kismaayo. Better to go for the weapon, before the trigger is pulled. The forums are the weapon, and this is why people like Sasjamal [who ran the Islamic forum that Daniel was a moderator at] are culpable for the damage that results from their efforts to create and maintain these forums.

How we proceed from here is open to debate. There is more than one way to deal with online communities of Islamic extremists. But there is no doubt that watching them is not enough.

Indeed. You can't kill all the terrorists, but it's not nearly as difficult to take out the main jihadi forums as the talking heads suggest. more...

American al Qaeda Traitor & Blogger Arrested in Texas

Daniel Maldonado (aka, "ABU MOHAMMED"; aka "Daniel Aljughaifi"), a native born American who converted to Islam, went to Somalia following the call to jihad to fight for the African Taliban. Maldanado was born in Massachusetts, but presently lives in Houston Texas (specifically at 9888 United Drive, Apartment #2207---so, he may be your neighbor). Why was he fighting in Somalia? Because he wanted to practice "true Islam".

He also admitted that he would fight the Americans if they came to Somalia and had no problems with the September 11 attacks. Which is, I believe, the very essence of treason.

I've noted in the past that the African Taliban---formally call The Islamic Courts Union --has an American citizen named Ibrahim Hassan Addou as their 'Foreign Minister'. You also won't be surprised to learn that Professor Addou spent some time as an academic here in America.

Oh, and via a link by a Charles Johnson I found out he's a blogger. What's so interesting about his blog is that Daniel apparently spent a lot of time at an Islamic chat forum, and appears to have had some part in both designing the website and running it. He's listed as "staff" in his bio. To each of his messages posted at the forum is attached the slogan "Unite and Conquer".

Terrorism in Salt Lake City?

Wow. Remember, do not question his motives. I dunno if the fact that Sulejman Talovic is a Muslim refugee has anything to do with this vile act, but since we are kind of at war with the jihadis, it does seem like a good place to start.

We should also remember that the Islamist message boards have been encouraging potential jihadis to keep it simple. Also, it's important to think about the role of the internet in creating "virtual cells" of mujahideen. That is, jihadis who may never physically meet or formally join an terror organization, but who encourage one another to do acts of violence.

As I've mentioned here many times before, the present structure of the Salafi jihadi movement is such that any one can now claim to be al Qaeda. Although the formal organizations of al Qaeda 1.0 (bin Laden, Zawahiri) and 2.0 (Zarqawi/al Masri in Iraq/ -- GSPC/al Qaeda in Algeria) remain a threat, this "al Qaeda 3.0" is more of a movement than it is of an organization. And thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of young Muslim men in the West sympathize with that movement. more...

Holocaust Denying Radical D.C. Imam Pwn3d! (Updated, Bumped)

***Post updated and bumped. Scroll down for updates and newer posts*****

Yesterday we brought you news that a self-described "Orthodox Muslim" imam in the Washington, D.C. area was inciting Muslims to commit acts of terrorism. In addition to the audio of one of his sermons, we also directed you to his webpage.

That MySpace page has been pwned! It's now an anti-terror, pro-Israeli site. The image to the right is now prominently displayed (give it a second, it's animated). Methinks DJM is behind this.........

On a related note, here is a podcast of Imam Muhammad al-Asi, of the D.C. Mosque and friend of Imam Musa denying the holocaust at about 14:30. Hat tip: Bobby.

I should have fully backed up Imam Musa's MySpace page (update: Mr. Clark found the Google cache), but I did get this much showing that there is a relationship between Musa and al-Asi:

On October 31, 2001, Imam Musa, along with Imam Muhammad al-Asi and others, appeared at the National Press Club and, in a program which was televised by C-SPAN, disputed the official story of what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, implying that the U.S. government was involved based on its historical pattern of creating wars to benefit pre-conceived agendas.
Does it surprise anyone that a 9/11 conspiracy nut would also be a Holocaust denyer?

UPDATE: Robert Spencer e-mails saying he has much, much more on al-Asi. It gets worse.

UPDATE II: Here is the audio of the Holocaust denial.

UPDATE III: Charles Johnson has even more on this tool.

Video: D.C. Imam Supporting Terror

Does this surprise me? Not. One. Bit. It's actually audio, but it's on Youtube.

Apparently, Imam Musa also has a myspace website. Here's his introductory quote:

The most glorious death is the death of the martyr.
He's not a member of The Nation of Islam, which was my first thought after hearing him. His bio says he's "Orthodox Muslim". Read: Salafi or Wahabbi.

I'm hoping that someone is keeping tabs on Imam Musa. But I'm guessing that no one is. After all, we wouldn't want to offend anybody.

Hat tip: Bobby.

UPDATE: Because I know many of you won't watch the whole video, or check out his webpage, here's some more info. He starts his talk by supporting Hezbollah--a terrorist organization. He then moves on to blaming inter-Muslim violence all over the world on the Jews and the U.S. No Shia death squads in Iraq--it's really the CIA and Mossad.

He also claims that 9/11 was a government conspiracy on his MySpace page:

On October 31, 2001, Imam Musa, along with Imam Muhammad al-Asi and others, appeared at the National Press Club and, in a program which was televised by C-SPAN, disputed the official story of what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, implying that the U.S. government was involved based on its historical pattern of creating wars to benefit pre-conceived agendas.
How popular is Imam Musa? Well he has 216 friends at MySpace. That's popular.

He also claims that that his main influences include Sayyid Qutb, the founder of the modern Salafi movement and intellectual force behind The Muslim Brotherhood, the offshoots of which include nearly every Sunni terrorist organization in the world; and Imam Khomeini--the Ayatollah who founded the Islamic Republic of Iraq, was behind the taking of American embassy workers hostage during the Carter administration, and who is the intellectual and spiritual force behind nearly every Shia terror organization in the modern world.

Apparently he's an equal opportunity terror supporter. But the audio from his webpage seems to indicate that he's a Muslim nationalist. And as I've said before, Muslim nationalism is every bit as dangerous to U.S. interests as are traditional Islamic teachings. Because Muslim nationalists may or may not share the traditional or "orthodox" teachings of Islam, but they do feel kinship with Muslims over kaffir infidels like you and me.

Islamic radical? Or mentally ill?

The suspect later told police that he continually yelled, "Die, die, die, kill, kill, kill" during the incidents, said the source with knowledge of the investigation.

I dunno, but turning tools of conveyance into guided missiles seems to be more of a jihadi bent.

"Suspicious Packages" Found Throughout Boston (UPDATED, BUMPED)

Michelle has the story.

UPDATE: LGF reports that it was all a "hoax."

UPDATE 2:Any of you who want to pile on the Boston authorities should have some even tougher questions for the folks in the rest of the country:

Turner Broadcasting is expected to issue an apology for causing today's series of bomb scares throughout Boston. A statement emailed to the Globe from Turner Broadcasting said: "The 'packages' in question are magnetic lights that pose no danger. They are part of an outdoor marketing campaign in 10 cities in support of Adult Swim's animated television show Aqua Teen Hunger Force. They have been in place for two to three weeks in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Austin, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. Parent company Turner Broadcasting is in contact with local and federal law enforcement on the exact locations of the billboards. We regret that they were mistakenly thought to pose any danger."

BWI second in losses of uniforms, ID cards

From the Washington Times:

At least 426 uniforms and identification cards issued to security screeners at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport have been lost or stolen since late 2001, according to Transportation Security Administration records. The only other airport to report more missing uniforms and badges in the past five years is Los Angeles International Airport , whose security screeners lost at least 789. More than 3,600 TSA or Homeland Security Department airport security uniforms and credentials have disappeared from November 2001, when the TSA was created, through Sept. 30, records show. Some lawmakers worry the missing items may find their way into the hands of terrorists. The agency, however, denies the problem poses a national security risk. Screeners at BWI reported 321 uniforms and 105 identity cards lost or stolen during the five-year period ending Sept. 30.

Ibrahim Hooper's "Fabrications"

Joel Mowbray on Ibrahim Hooper's "fabrications":

Interviewed this week by Paula Zahn on CNN, CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper let loose a grandiose fabrication:

"We practically have a rubber stamp saying, 'CAIR condemns blank act of terrorism.' We've repeatedly, consistently condemned terrorism in all its forms, including attacks on Israeli civilians by Hamas, Hezbollah. We've condemned it repeatedly."

Not true.

While CAIR did condemn one specific attack committed by Hamas -- the particularly gruesome Netanya Passover massacre in March 2002 -- it pointedly omitted any reference to the terrorist organization. (Interestingly, CAIR's press release also avoided acknowledging that the bombing occurred in "Israel," writing instead that the attack happened in "the Middle East.") As for Hezbollah, CAIR has never condemned any of that organization's many terrorist attacks. During the month-long war last summer, CAIR issued at least eight condemnations of Israel and America -- but not one of Hezbollah.

CAIR has, in fact, never condemned Hamas or Hezbollah. Given repeated opportunities to do so by outlets such as The Washington Post and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, CAIR has flatly refused to denounce either. Asked point-blank by Newsweek just last month to condemn Hamas, CAIR Executive Director and cofounder Nihad Awad demurred, dismissing the question as "the game of the pro-Israel lobby."

Domestic Terror? C-4 traces at Miami port

UPDATE: FALSE ALARM--bumped down.

The Port of Miami--where 3 Arabs were investigated over the weekend after the truck driver falsely said he was alone--is again shut down. Traces of C-4 "plasticine" explosives have been found.

Linda is blogging from about a mile from the port of Miami:

The box/device was being loaded onto a cruise ship scheduled for four day cruise starting later. The sensor caught it as having C4. They tested it five more times with positive reactions each test.
If Linda is right about five tests, I'm thinking the false positive theory is out the window. I'm not sure just how sensitive these tests are to false positives, but five tests, all resulting in positives, seems kinda high.

I'm thinking that the judge might want to reconsider those dropped charges.

Developing.....hopefully this all turns out to be nothing.

UPDATE: Fox reporting bomb squad at Cruise Terminal H of the port, where Royal Caribbean's Majesty of the Seas is docked. Also, flight restrictions over Port of Miami.

UPDATE: Greg Tinti from The Political Pit Bull has this link to live footage from the scene at Miami.

UPDATE: Whoa! Via Linda, again. Local TV reporting that a cargo pallet with large amount of C4 may have been found. Bomb squad has exploded it.

UPDATE: False alarm? That is what the media is saying now. Linda also confirming false alarm. There is no god but Allahpundit.....

Blind Shiekh Dying, Terror Attacks Feared

sheik_abdel_rahman.jpgThe FBI has reported that convicted al Qaeda terrorist Omar Abdel-Rahman had a close bout with death. Unfortunately, his health seems to be improving.

Chicago Sun Times:

The health of terrorist cleric Omar Abdel-Rahman, the so-called Blind Sheik, is deteriorating -- renewing fears that his death in prison could trigger an attack on the United States, officials said Thursday....

In a two-page bulletin, dated Dec. 8, the FBI reported to federal intelligence officials that Rahman was rushed from prison to a Missouri hospital two days earlier for a blood transfusion. There, doctors discovered a tumor on Rahman's liver, according to the bulletin, which was described to The Associated Press by a law enforcement official....

Brian Ross reminds us why this has raised some concern:
"My Brothers...If they [the Americans] kill me, which they will certainly do – hold my funeral and send my corpse to my family, but do not let my blood be shed in vain. Rather, extract the most violent revenge, and remember your brother who spoke the truth and died for the will of God...The Mujahid Sheikh Omar Abdel al Rahman. In the name of God the kind and merciful."

The FBI bulletin also notes, "During Ramadan of this past year, al-Qa'ida in Iraq (AQI) released a videotape encouraging all Muslims in Iraq to exert efforts in capturing Western personnel so that they may be exchanged for the release of the Blind Sheik, suggesting that the Blind Sheikh remains a significant source of inspiration for AQ and their sympathizers."

They say his health has improved. So much so that he's back in his cell, slowly rotting away in a living hell before he dies and finds an eternal one. But, keep your fingers crossed.

I love this quote from Allah:

“If you kill them, they’re martyrs. If you lock them up, they’re martyrs. So kill them.”
And for similar reaction, but with a few more zingers, try Misha, who has a few words of advice for Lynn Stewart as well.

Oh, and no word whether or not Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam will mourn for his old friend Rahman's death when it does finally come.

American, Europeans, Held in Yemen Terror Ring

Long time friend and Yemen expert Jane has the goods on a ring of terrorists operating from Yemen. One of them is an American born in New Mexico of Yemeni parents, and was the Muslim Chaplin in Residence at George Washington University.

Short story: Previously under investigation in the US, American Iman Anwar al-Alwaki a/k/a Abu Atiq was recently arrested in Yemen. His arrest led investigators to another group connected to September’s thwarted terror bombings in which two of the February al-Qaeda escapees were killed.

The al-Awlaki arrest also led to a later arrest of eight foreigners accused of smuggling guns to Somalia for al-Qaeda including a Dane, a Briton, a German, a Somali, three Australians, and a European of undetermined nationality who may be Austrian. One media report indicates the group was under surveillance by Western intelligence and the arrests disrupted an otherwise productive intelligence operation; other sources dispute this. The Dane is known as Abu Zakaria, whose given name is Kenneth Sorensen. The central figure was reportedly a Somali named al-Ansar. This group of eight included the Australian Ayub brothers, sons of JI leader Abdul Rahim Ayub, who fled Australia after the Bali bombings. Seven of the eight confessed according to the official Yemeni media. However six of eight were subsequently released without charges.

Terrorism in Queens, NY -- the Al Muhajiroun Connection? (UPDATED: Bumped)

new_york_protest_islamic_thinkers_society_driver.jpgUPDATE 12/14/2006 08:18: Another important Queens link was indentified by Mrs. Abe Froman in the comments: Queens is were Ramzi Yousef rented a garage to build the truck bomb that went off in the WTC in '93. Now, why does that make me worry?

I also bumped this post because, well, I thought that it needed a second reading. If you haven't checked it out, be sure to click on the "Read More" link if you are coming here from the main page. The majority of the post is below the fold.

------------------------

I had passed on this story when I first heard about it, that an illegal immigrant, Mohammed Yusef Mullawala, had been arrested. Formally, he was arrested for overstaying his visa. But the real reason he was detained was that he set off red flags when he enrolled in truck driving school, didn't want to learn to back up, and was interested in getting licensure to transport hazerdous material. Fast.

But after Belch e-mailed me about this today (see his post here), I began to think about terrorism in Queens. There is a connection. Queens & terrorism have been connected in the past. Could be nothing, but then again, could be something. At least, it's something for the authorities investigating Yusuf to look into.

To the above right we have a picture of a rally organized by Muslims in Queens. more...

FBI Arrests Man Plotting Mall Attack

10_61_shareef_sketch.jpgNot many details yet.

ABCNEWS: Dec. 8, 2006 — ABC News has learned a Chicago-area man has been charged with plotting a terrorist attack.

Sources say the man is accused of planning to use firearms and explosives to attack a specific mall in Rockford, Ill. The alleged plan was to target this mall during the holiday shopping season.

The suspect is being described as a "lone wolf" style terrorist and is not believed to have ties to any organized terrorist group.

Update: More here at MSNBC.

Derrick Shareef was arrested when he met with an undercover agent in a Rockford parking lot to trade a set of stereo speakers for four hand grenades and a handgun...

...The plan was allegedly ideologically motivated.

Huh "ideologically motivated", What could they mean by that?

Update II. More here at CBS2 in Chicago.

Authorities reported that the mall was one of several potential targets Shareef allegedly discussed with undercover agents, and the others were primarily local government facilities.

Earlier information said the case was connected to a terrorist plot against a Chicago mall, but that turned out not to be correct.

Federal authorities said the public was not in danger.

"Once the threat Shareef posed was detected by the Joint Terrorism Task Force, his activities and movements were under constant surveillance and there was no imminent risk to the public," said FBI Special-Agent-in-Charge Robert Grant.

Others Following Allahpundit at Hot Air and Rielworldview.

Update III: Michelle Malkin has posted a copy of the affidavit, via the smoking gun. Apparently he is a Muslim and a Jew Hating Racist Muslime at that. I have a partial copy below the fold. See Michelle's blog for more.

Warning: Strong anti-Semitic and racist language.

Stop The ACLU notes the man was inspired by online jihadist propaganda.

So rather than a "lone wolf", we prefer the term al-Qaeda 3.0. This is when small groups or lone individuals perpetrate acts of terror. They are inspired by al-Qaeda and other jihadist propaganda websites.

American Jihadi in Egypt Update II

An American student in Egypt continues to be detained as 10 European nationals, also arrested in the terror sweep, were sent packing today. Still no word on who this American is.

BBC:

Egypt has deported eight French and two Belgian citizens it arrested on suspicion of trying to recruit people to fight in Iraq, airport sources say.

The 10 were put on a flight from Cairo to Brussels, the officials said.

It was not clear whether the group would be arrested or freed when they arrived in Europe.

Egyptian security sources said the group had links to several terrorist organisations, and to a man who blew himself up on the Syrian border.

Newt Gingrich on Fighting the Cyber Jihad

More evidence that Newt Gingrich gets the cyber jihad. Human Events:

* We should be allowed to close down websites that recruit suicide bombers and provide instructions to indiscriminately kill civilians by suicide or other means, or advocate killing people from the West or the destruction of Western civilization;

* We should propose a Geneva-like convention for fighting terrorism that makes very clear that those who would fight outside the rules of law, those who would use weapons of mass destruction and those who would target civilians are in fact subject to a totally different set of rules that allow us to protect civilization by defeating barbarism before it gains so much strength that it is truly horrendous. A subset of this convention should define the international rules of engagement on what activities will not be protected by free speech claims; and

* We need an expeditious review of current domestic law to see what changes can be made within the protections of the 1st Amendment to ensure that free speech protection claims are not used to protect the advocacy of terrorism, violent conduct or the killing of innocents.

Read the rest, especially the first half of the article. My original analysis of last week's remarks are here.

Ace has a great legalistic analysis of the Gingrich plan against the cyber jihadis, and adds this:

Gingrich notes the "First Amendment is not a suicide pact" (a slight change of the adage that "the constitution is not a suicide pact," i.e., the constitution does not demand that those who would seek to destroy it and the country it binds be permitted to do so). But apperrently there are many people who believe it's just that, and that it is, somehow, crucial to the "marketplace of ideas" and "genius of American governance" that we permit terrorists to recruit, incite, plan, and the like without police intervention.
Amen. Just a note that it was me, not Gingrich, in my original essay that made the First Amendment is not a suicide pact play on words. And yes, I know, Lincoln never said "The Constitution is not a suicide pact." It was Justice Robert Jackson. But it certainly encapsulates, succinctly, Lincoln's theory of Presidential prerogative in a time of war. (See his letter to A. G. Hodges, April 4, 1864)

Let me also direct your attention to this week's Shire News Netork interview with Walid Phares. Next week's podcast promises to be even better, as the second half of the interview with Phares will focus on the use of the internet in the worldwide jihad.
