Against Giuliani

I'm not really a Giuliani fan. Never have been. I'm not even a conservative and I find the conservative case against Giuliani compelling. The conservative case against John McCain is not so compelling and the Republican reaction to McCain reminds me of the Democratic reaction to Lieberman.

1 Here's how it will come down.

Who will be stronger on National Security?

--they'll both pander to the strongest voting block on the social issues.

The one who will win, will be the one who gives the appearance that they'll support the largest voting blocks wishes...but in the end the status quo will remain on social issues.

The most important issue will be National Security.

If the democrats harp on the War in Iraq...they might as well be harping on the Bay of Pigs....because they're both HISTORY.

How will we protect our country in the FUTURE is what is relevant.

2 McCain being equated to Lieberman is a misnomer. Better to compare or equate McCain to Hillary's or Kerry's self serving 'finger in the wind' politics.

3 McCain has a screw loose (read The Nightengale's Song). I do not fault him for that, after all, he spent 5 years in a bamboo box. That being said, there is no way I would vote for him for commander in chief.
Giuliani, OTOH, has played politics in NYC his entire life. I don't believe that what he has espoused re: social issues, is what he would actually enact if he became POTUS. In any event, it is my belief that the issue of abortion, with the exception of partial birth, is pretty much settled in the country. As for immigration, what do you expect a NYC politician to say on the matter?
I like to think that his stance on defense would take in the immigration issue as well. You might hear something very different from a Presidential Giuliani re: immigration and national security than you are currently hearing from a Giuliani that was former mayor of NYC. He has my vote.

4 Giuliani can explain all of his past liberal views if he takes an explicit federalist stance. He could be extremely liberal on social issues, but so long as he thinks that _only_ the state governments are the proper entities to push such social issues (thus the federal government must stay out of issues like abortion, gay marriage, etc) then President Guiliani would be fine by me.

This view is why Scalia can be an orgy freak and an intellectual leader of Constitutional textualists.

5 Guiliani is no conservative he is aa ultra liberal leftists even more incompetent then the idiot who is running the big apple now

6 not so compelling?
1) McCain-Feingold and its unprecdented attack on the first amendment.
2) The formation of the so-called "gang of 14,"
3) His jumping into bed with ted kennedy support for the heinous senate immigration bill, which would have made income tax optional for borderjumping criminals who seek to jump to the front of the line, flaunting sovreignty and basic fairness
4) Just to round it out, mr. squeaky-clean, let's not forget, was one of the keating 5.

what would he have to do? if this is not a compelling case against McCain, can one be made?

as someone once said of Jhimmi Carter, "the man knows not what shrine he seeks save that it bears his name."

7 Giuliani is the only one who can win against the evil she devil Clinton bitch. You do the best you can. Take your choice. Bush or Kerry? Giuliani or the Clinton bitch? Same thing. Only myself would be better. Along with Hondo and IM as Secretarys of State and Defense. All other friends in the cabinet and YBP to look over our shoulders in case we decided to do the right thing.

8 I think any strong Republican can beat Hillary. She has too many skeletons that WILL come out of the closet if she gets the nomination. She is the most polarizing figure this country has ever seen and people will be crawling out of the woodwork just to vote against her.

For Giuliani, or anyone else, to get the nomination, they will have to make the conservatives happy on social issues. That means promises will have to be made - as well as enforced by conservative members of Congress - to have a conservative nominee to the Supreme Court. Many of those old liberals are close to dying off. Hopefully the first to go will be Ginsburg. How an ACLU shill ever got on the bench, I don't know.

9 Slug: You just don't understand the mentality of a democrat or liberal. Union will vote 95% democratic as they are instructed to by their paid officials. Blacks would elect O.J. Simpson and a child molester president if he ran against a white man. Liberals refuse to see the truth. Academic meatheads are conditioned to liberal thinking even if they claim to be on the right. The Hillary monster will run and be picked by the left behinds. It will take Giuliani, a real New Yorker, to defeat her. After all she will have the muslim money in her camp.
