ACLU Seeks to Abolish American Sovereignty

The American Civil Liberties Union (whose name is becoming increasingly ironic) has turned to the Organization of American States to try to overrule a Supreme Court decision regarding the rights of illegal aliens with which the ACLU disagrees. From the New York Times:

On behalf of six illegal immigrant workers, including the widow of a Mexican killed on a Brooklyn demolition site, the American Civil Liberties Union and other law and labor groups charged yesterday that the United States has failed to protect basic workplace rights guaranteed under international law.

The charges came in a petition to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, an arm of the Organization of American States, which includes all the 35 nations of the Western Hemisphere.

The petition, filed by the A.F.L.-C.I.O. and the other groups, is an unusual appeal to an international body to push American courts and lawmakers away from a 2002 Supreme Court ruling known as Hoffman v. National Labor Relations Board. The petitioners say the ruling has had a snowball effect, limiting or denying the basic protection of labor laws to millions of illegal immigrant workers in violation of principles like equal protection before the law and freedom of association under the nation’s international treaty obligations.

The ACLU is attempting to subvert the most basic right of all Americans, self governance, in hopes of providing super-national rights to people who have violated US laws to enter the country.

It is now officially okay to question their patriotism.

Via Stop the ACLU.

2 I have never even heard of the Organization of American States. Do they have an army?

3 Someone please explain it to me.

If we are in violation of international labor laws and the ACLU and other groups are trying to have those laws enforced, what is the problem with the ACLU?

The NYT article says that "The petition, filed by the A.F.L.-C.I.O. and the other groups...".

Please explain why an organization that defends our constitution and international laws (unlike our fearless leader, who took an oath to defend our constitution, but doesn't), should be vilified for helping to protect workers' rights.

Shouldn't we be vilifying the AFL-CIO and the other groups, also, rather than singleing out the ACLU?

What am I missing?

4 If the ACLU can't find a Leftwing lawyer to make it up as he goes along they'll go overseas for help.  Scum.

5 What organization are you talking about, Fuddlepuck? The ACLU is actively seeking to subvert our constitution, the basis of which is national sovereignty. And you can thank our "fearless leader" and the military for the longest period in recent US history without a major terrorist attack against US interests.

What are you missing? A brain.

8 Greyrooster - you are a moron.

I have been on this site for a couple of days, now and don't really care who agrees or disagrees with me.

I have no idea who you are talking about.

But I learn very quickly and I can sure see that you must have been deprived of a lot of oxygen during childbirth (one of many on this site).

And Guy - does international law specify that only "legal" immigrants are entitled to be safe on the job?

And how does the ACLU try to destroy our constitution?

Didn't they defend one of your heros, Rush LimpBalls?

Guess I missed that part, too.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to see all of the illegal immigrants rounded up, along with all of their anchor children and shipped back to Mexico or whereever the hell they came from.

Then build a wall across the Mexican border to keep all of those fuckers from coming back.

And to fill the jobs that Americans won't do, how about the employers compete for American workers, by offering enough money that Americans will do the jobs, reducing the incentive for illegals to come here?

In the meantime, how about conforming with the laws of the US and the world?

Is that too much to ask, while we are rounding up all the illegals?

Or would you rather to pay the hospital bills for the illegals that get hurt on the job, because safety laws are not being enforced?

Oh, and by the way, I'm also in favor of getting rid of all the legal foreign workers here on visas that are also taking jobs from Americans.

When their visas are up, I say we send them home, as well.

And how about we stop giving American companies incentives to give away jobs to people in other countries?

Aren't you getting tired of America becoming a third world country, one that exports raw materials and imports finished goods?

I know I am.

9 Dustin -

Don't tell Bush that the OAS doesn't have an army.

He'll want to launch a pre-emptive strike on them, especially if he finds out that they can't defend themselves.

He needs a victory, somewhere, really badly.

Maybe he could win that war, before the election and declare "Mission Accomplished".

Even a dumb assed puddleduck can get a few things right.

Puddlefuckhead: Bush just got a victory. Kerry's mouth.

11 Damn, even a puddleduck has half a brain. I stand amazed in its presence! He actually made some sense for a change.

12 I noticed that too. Can he be saved? Doubt it. He already knows everything. In three days. Once knew a guy like that in California. They seem to have a lock on know it alls. Anyway, last I heard he was in the unemployment line looking for a job as a 7th grade teacher in Sonoma county. Busy working his way down to be democrat.

13 Puddlemuck! I agree with you 100%. My sentiments exactly! It has only gotten this way because of corporate greed which is really behind everything pulling the strings, and people too complacent to do anything about it! BTW watch that video that Grep posted a week ago about taxes and all. In that video there is a quote from fearless Bush declaring the constitution to be a " goddamn piece of paper ".

14 Corporate greed is good. Except for Wal-Mart who I am no longer a part of. They will take a dump. Big time. The beginning of the end for a America last corporation. Besides the majority of their minimun wage employees and democrats.
