Back off, or...

This is how many conservatives (including some of the Jawas) are reacting to the (awful) immigration "reform" bill in the Senate:

Unfortunately, too many of them think that actually pulling the trigger won't cause any lasting harm. Ironically, they pulled the trigger last November and produced a Congress more likely to grant amnesty to illegals. And more likely to betray our troops in Iraq, of course.

That's the problem with cutting off your nose to spite your face: you get marginalized.

1 I agree completely. The media is doing its best to demoralize us into not voting. Just because we have to vote for idiots doesn't mean we shouldn't vote.

2 Good point. Methinks the time to take a principled stand is during the primaries, not the general election. I've decided during the primaries I'll support the most conservative candidate possible, and vote GOP no matter what during the general election.

3 I disagree with this. I have been mostly unsatisfied with the GOP for the past few years (spending like a drunken sailor, Bush's stance on illegal immigration, being complete wussies in standing up to Democrats to name a few) but I always voted. And I voted Republican. In 2006, I voted for Mel Martinez. And this is what I get for my vote?!?!? Why bother? He's no better than voting for Ted Kennedy. I am already marginalized but every time I vote I hope that things will be better and every time I get screwed. So I might as well vote for a Democrat. At least when I get screwed and I will know it's coming. Or not vote at all. If things go to hell in a hand basket, of course I still get screwed but at least I can rationalize that I didn't put the guy in office.

7 I'm staying in the Party and voting conservative as opposed to RINO in the primary but if the GOP chooses another RINO / CINO candidate they've lost my vote. I'll stay home on principle, it's just that simple.

I don't plan on staying home in 2008, either, and I won't be voting Democrat.

All I did was switch affiliations on my voter registration.

An empty gesture, as I stated in my post, but I sure feel better.

9 The time to scream at the Republicans is right now. Call your senators, ESPECIALLY if they're R's and tell them if they don't get their conservative act together, particularly on this 'let's give the country to the Mexicans', they're toast.

If we make it plain, starting right now, that we won't be railroaded into the ole vote-for-a-RINO or get HILLARY dichotomy, there's a good chance they'll listen.

Either they run the someones we can vote for or its on their heads.

The entire party doesn't want to be out of power, remember, so the message must and will be clear.

It's the soap-box, the ballot-box and then......well, for now we're still at the ballot box.
