Christian Ministers Murdered in Indonesia (UPDATE: WAR?)

Sulawesi is in Indonesia. You know, that moderate Muslim country.

What's scary is that Indonesia really is a moderate Islamic country. Only 10% of Indonesian Muslims support the murder of infidels through jihad. Of course, as Charles Johnson notes, that's only 18.7 million Indonesians that want you dead.

Antara News:

Reverend Irianto Kongkoli, secretary general of Central Sulawesi`s Christian church synod, was gunned down by an unidentified man here Monday morning, eyewitneses said.

Eyewitnesses said Irianto, the reverend, was shot when he was about to buy building materials in Sinar Sakti shop on Monginsidi street in Palu subdistrict at 8:15 a.m. local time.

"Suddenly a gunfire explosion was heard and the reverend collapsed with gunshot wound on his head" said a witness who spoke on the anonymity....

A female reverend Susinati Tinulele, 29, was also gunned down when she was delivering a sermon on July 18, 2006.

She died instantly after a number of masked gunmen burst into a church in Palu and shot at the Protestant reverend. Four teenage churchgoers were wounded in the shooting incident.

We'll continue to keep our infidel friends in Indonesia in our prayers.

UPDATE: Stan the Infidel leaves this in the comments. Since I know most don't bother with the comments, I'll put them up for all to read. Stan is a Christian minister who blogs from Indonesia:

My brother (Big White Infidel) has gone down to Palu already and I will join him tomorrow for the funeral. Rev. Irianto was a personal friend and we have helped with refugees from the area and ministering to those affected by the conflict.

Rev. Irianto was gunned down in public.

You see, the extra police and army sent to Central Sulawesi are there to make sure Christians don't misbehave, not stop Muslims from carrying out attacks ( bombing yesterday and murder today).

My brother and I also made a decision this morning. We will stay and fight against the Muslims if the conflict re-opens. The Lord has laid this upon both our hearts. This is our home now and we will defend our Christian brothers and sisters.

Sooner or later all of us will have to fight them. It is inevitable. For us, the battle is almost now. For you, it will be later on the streets of America and Canada and Europe.

And they are coming for you. I know they are coming for me. Jesus said so. He said that if they persecute Him, they will persecute us also. John 16:2 says "In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God." And that's what the Koranimals think, they are pleasing Allah by killing kafirs...

And that article that Charles has isn't complete. 1 in 5 Indonesians supports Jemaah Islamiyah and almost 1 in 5 supports Abu Bakr Ba'asyir's Mujahidin Majelis Indonesia militants. That's a big double for the buck-toothed old gedeknepper (Danish for goatf-----). Boycott and condemn Indonesia.

Stan, has more in the comments. I pray that he can find alternatives to violence in the fight to protect Christians. I am not a pacifist, but a realist. If civil war should ensue, there would be mass slaughter and the Christian minority really has little chance of winning. I think the lessons of East Timor should be apparent here.

"Only a few terrorists. The rest of the muslims are decent people". Famous words on this blog 2 years ago.

4 Can we send money for logistical support?

5 What I don't understand is isn't Indonesia an official muslim country? Is it the same as say, Saudi Arabia, Iraq or Syria. If so, wouldn't one expect this behavior from the muslims. It would happen in the aforementioned Islamic states. If we in America and other civilized countries wished to punish the muslims all we would have to do in quit buying Indonesian goods. Isn't Nike shoes made in Indonesia. Half of what I see at Wal-Mart says make in Indonesia on the label. Christians support muslims in Indonesia every time they buy some trinket that says made in Indonesia. Doesn't make sense. And please don't blame the wealthy importers. If the Christians in the west didn't buy the goods they wouldn't be imported.  Or is cost the only real consideration.

6 Therein lies our downfall Rooster! It beguiles me that an American can rarely find anything not made in china or indonesia or some other enemy country. When I shop I check to see where the thing is made and back on the shelf it goes if made in china. Now I will do that also for indonesia, and thailand since they are now controlled by a military muslim man. It is hard, because the chinese come up with some very clever and crafty useful and colorful items. I will not shop at walmart's and believe they should be outlawed in this country along with mosques, islam and anyone wearing a towel on their head.

7 Stan and Big White, you men be careful over there.  I pray for you.

8 What's really ironic is that a lot of  Indonesian protestors are all wearing American clothing when they are protesting against America. I don't buy Indonesian because all their stuff is too small for me. Being 6'7" 260 in an Asian country is not fun. My brother's 6'8" and 280. We get most of our stuff tailor made here.

9 I did sell out on Wal-Mart preferrs. Just felt unAmerican to deal with a company that insists that its vendors partner with Chinese companies. I see the Germans didn't go for Wal-Marts policies. Wal-Mart was forced to sell out taking a 1 billion dollar loss. Did you know that Chinese Wal-Marts are unionize? But the bastards will close or move a store before allowing American unions in the stores. And yes I would pay a nicket more for Americans working in Wal-Mart to have a pension plan and health care. Didn't realize that about Thailand. Pity, I love Jasmine rice from Thailand. I'd buy Indian rice if they promised it didn't come from a muslim owned company.

10 Stan: Are you sure the made in America stuff is really made in America? Or made in Indonesia to look like made in America.

11 I have a friend who is a Coptic Christian from Egypt. He said that Muslim police are posted at the Church to supposedly protect them from violence, but really they make sure the Christians do not do anything they are allowed to do. One example was demanding a 10,000 (... pound? whatever the money unit) permit purchase to perform a 300 (pound?) roof repair.

12 Stan, we will pray for you and your brother.

13 We need picket lines and demonstrations. We don't need people sitting on their collective asses moaning and bitching on the Internet.

We need people picketing outside Wal-mart with flyers describing exactly what's going on in Indonesia and asking people entering the store to not buy ANYTHING marked with "Made in Indonesia". Same could be said for Egypt, Malaysia and a host of others. But Indonesia is a good start because Wal-mart has good relations with them and their a larger target than the rest.

Wal-mart has its bad points (a death sentence to smaller competition), but it can also have its good points. It provides a single strangle point to pressure bad actors it does business with. If we apply sufficient and persistent pressure Wal-Mart will notice, and then so will Indonesia.

Further, Wal-Mart has a specific image to uphold. It's supposed to be "family friendly" and has even at times held itself out to be "Christian friendly". How would they like it if posters of butchered Christians were on picket signs outside their stores nationwide?

Christians, and for that matter anyone who upholds freedom of conscience, must make our voices (and pocketbooks) heard.

14 Walmart = Google. They are too big and care about nothing other than expanding. The keyboard and internet can serve a purpose, if what people read can change their shopping habits. Yeah, freedom is not cheap and does come with a price. Most Americans seem unwilling to pay that price.

You gonna hire a lazy American, Rooster?

Posted by: Last gasp Larry at October 18, 2006 05:46 PM (Dd86v)

17 I did for seventeen years. Paid them well and allowed them to buy me out. That's why I retired at 52. American labor. Or at least American thinkers. That's what I was after. Twelve years and the company still sends me great Xmas presents and never forgets my birthday. Remember Larry, someone had to make this country number one in the world. It sure as hell wasn't Arabs, Mexicans and Blacks. Well maybe we got some help form the Mexicans.

Posted by: Greyrooster at October 19, 2006 07:30 PM (ZVu3J)

18 I know the Mexicans are hard workers. Ones I've known are good humble people that put us to shame. I worked as a used car salesman once. I watched as my bosses trained me while they talked a decent Mexican family out of $5,000 for a $1,000 car. They drove away thinking they had bought a Cadillac. ( In fact it was a Cadillac but that is neither here nor there ). My bosses were jumping for joy and rubbing their greedy hands together. Dispirited, I quit shortly after that.

Posted by: Last gasp Larry at October 19, 2006 11:17 PM (Dd86v)

19 Larry: A used car salesman will do that to anyone regardless of race, color or greed.
