Update on Al-Qaeda Attack on US Troops

Three soldiers killed in attack identified (via CNN):

The slain and missing U.S. soldiers were from Fort Drum in New York, and all have been identified as members of the 10th Mountain Division's Second Brigade.

So far, three families have been notified that their relatives were killed in action.

Two of the slain have been identified by family members.

They are Pfc. Daniel W. Courneya, 19, of Vermontville, Michigan, and Sgt. 1st Class James D. Connell Jr., 40, of Lake City, Tennessee.

"I'm proud of my dad," said Connell's daughter Courtney. "He didn't really fight for himself, he fought for the country."

The Army is unable to positively identify the missing solders, because one of the dead was burned beyond recognition and they are awaiting the results of DNA tests, expected to be complete by Wednesday.

Military spokesmen said the attack was a "planned snatch" and involved at least 10 insurgents.

Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, a U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad, said 11 people have been detained, and four of them are considered high-value targets.

As of Monday, 460 people have been questioned since the search was launched, Garver said, and the military has received more than 50 tips from people.

1 They're getting close.  They will find our boys, dead or alive...hopefully the latter.

Look at the benefits of this unfortunate (if that's the right word) incident; they have scoured this rotten area and detained terrorists, and have received dozens of tips on insurgent activity.  Keep up the great work, God bless our troops!

2 Why do you believe they are getting close?  I like the fact that the helicopters are constantly overhead.  The guys may hear them and it may help them in some way. (If they are alive).  I know in the Blackhawke Down case, Durant (?) who was on one of the copters that crashed saw the bodies of the men being dragged away and the angry mob headed for him.  One of the leaders took control and decided he would be more useful alive.  He was held for I think close to two weeks.  I remember him saying in an interview that he could hear the helicopters overhead and the bullhorn messages telling him they were going to find him.

3 #2 Sharm....Thank you for that. I didn't think of it that way. I pray for the soldiers safety and am most interested in Anthony Schober who they say is from Reno, Nevada but went to school in Douglas County (outside of Carson City). His mom and step dad live in Carson City. I was shocked to see that Harry Reid didn't use a anti-war stance in his statements to the press regarding this. Never the less lets hope and pray for the safe return of these guys as time is getting short.
